First Day Back.

Finally, another school year had begun. Amy sat quietly in her room, staring at the ceiling instead of getting ready. School was the last place she wanted to be. Every year was the same — whispers, stares, fear. Nobody ever truly wanted to be her friend. People either avoided her because of her strange ability or used her to figure out who was lying. Either way, she always ended up alone. Downstairs, Mike waited beside the car keys, already knowing what was keeping his daughter, fear. With a sigh, he climbed the stairs and knocked before entering her room. “Amy,” he said softly. “Come on. Don’t let people inferior to you scare you.” She let out a dry laugh. “This superiority feels more like a curse than a blessing, Dad. I’m tired.” Mike’s expression softened. “But you promised your mum you wouldn’t let anybody dim your shine. Remember?” Amy looked down. “I remember. And I’m trying my best.” “I know you are.” He smiled gently. “Now come on, let’s go remind that school they have a gem.” That earned a small laugh from her. “Alright, Daddy. Let’s go.” “That’s my girl.” When they arrived at Mayor High, Amy hesitated before stepping out of the car. Mike noticed immediately. “Go rule the world,” he said. Amy smiled nervously before walking toward the school building. The moment she entered, eyes followed her. Whispers spread instantly, her chest tightened. For a second, she wished the ground would open up and swallow her whole. Instead, she lifted her chin and kept walking. The bell rang just as she entered class. Perfect. She quickly took her seat while the principal stood at the front. “We have two new students joining us today,” Principal Moore announced. “Eli Matthew and Sally Williams.” Sally smiled brightly. “Nice meeting you guys.” Amy frowned slightly. She already hates Tani. Interesting. Then the boy spoke. “Glad to be here.” Amy froze. Wait… Wasn’t he the guy from the dining hall at IBK Beach Resort? It was him. Eli walked toward the empty seat beside her and sat down casually. Now that he was closer, Amy noticed how unfairly handsome he was. Sharp jawline. Calm eyes. Dangerous smile. Eli smirked slightly. “You like what you see?” Amy immediately looked away, embarrassed. “Sorry for staring.” Meanwhile, Sally took the seat in front of Amy. Across the room, Tani looked both annoyed and threatened. She leaned toward her minions, Tia and Ria, whispering something. Moments later, Tia passed a folded note to Eli. He opened it. The girl beside you is a lie-exposing weirdo. A snitch. Stay away from her. Eli glanced briefly at Tia. Then, without a word, he stood up and moved to the empty seat beside Tani. Amy lowered her gaze. “That’s how they all do,” she muttered quietly. Another note was passed to Sally. But instead of reading it silently, Sally tore it in half right in front of Tia. Then she stood up and moved beside Amy. “Don’t worry,” she said with a grin. “I’ll be your friend. What’s your name?” Amy blinked in surprise. “I’m Amy… but honestly, you should probably listen to them.” Sally rolled her eyes dramatically. “Yeah, no. I won’t.” For the first time that morning, Amy smiled genuinely. Maybe… Maybe this year would be different.
