Hiding Behind Our Backs

1640 Words
After two years “Darling, what don't you like?” my brother drawled lazily, hugging a long-legged and almost completely artificial blonde. I called them mops. Because that's exactly what they looked like. And from the same Mafia factory. And when I looked at them, I regretted. I would have been richer than my beloved father. “What could I like about being deprived of my job?” I asked Tony, frowning. “Okay!” I hissed and, grabbing my brother by the hand, dragged him into the office, leaving the mop in the reception area. After that, I slammed the door so that this mop wouldn't hear anything. “What are you doing?” my brother growled at me. “And you, what are you doing?” I asked a counter question. “I really can see how tired you are,” Tony sighed. “So go somewhere to rest. Like a father. Take the girls and go.” "If you forgot, we just got back," I hissed. "Why the hell did you decide to take this mop in my place? Well, you could have fun with it, and that's it. Why drag it into the company?" "I forgot to ask you," my brother snorted. "And anyway, Dad left the company to me. And asked you not to bother him. So I'm sending you off to rest. "And you forgot to ask me if I want this or not?" I practically squealed. I couldn't stand it when someone decided anything for me. "And then, how do you know that this mop of yours might leak information to competitors?" “If she tries, I'll destroy her,” promised Tony and smiled predatorily. And I realized that it was all useless. Useless. My brother had bitten the bit. And now nothing would budge him. Not even Dad. Although... “What if I call Dad now?” I drawled. “I don't think he'll be happy.” “Just try!” Tony growled. “Otherwise I...” “Otherwise what?” I narrowed my eyes angrily. My brother hadn't blackmailed me yet. “And I'll tell Dad that you started an affair with some jerk and quit your job. And I have nothing left to do but hire a new one.” “What?” I exclaimed. “Are you completely crazy?! My father will just lock me up just in case.” “Yeah!” Tony blurted out. “That's exactly what I'm trying to achieve.” “What a bastard you are,” I sighed. “Elena, I want you to be happy. And you definitely won't be with this mop.” “Elena, calm down,” my brother chuckled and hugged me. “This chicken is temporary. I'll find a normal professional later.” “What the hell do you need her for?” I didn't get it. “If there's a normal professional later.” “Because that's how I have fun,” Tony said. “And don't worry about the company. I won't trust mop with anything serious except making coffee. And yes, I won't let her near any information. Let her sit in the reception area and sharpen her claws. And for the rest, there's the secretary's office. Veronica will sort it out there. "Well, yeah," I nodded. "Veronica will sort it out. But I don't understand why they're firing me." "Sorry, honey," my brother sighed, continuing to hug me. "But Dad said you need to start living." "And what am I doing?" she asked, surprised. "You're hiding behind our backs," Tony explained. "You have nothing in your life except work and home. You don't even have any friends.” “I have a friend,” I muttered. “Your friend is crazy?” my brother chuckled. “So she's not a friend, she's a monster.” Yeah, yeah, a monster. And not a monster at all. But the most wonderful friend. True, her relationship with me didn't work out at all. And all because, when he first saw her, my brother decided to hit on her. Well, he got it right in the neck. After that incident, she didn't come to my house. I always came to hers. And we met completely by chance. A couple of months ago, I went for a walk in the park with my daughter. And then, having walked enough, when we headed home, I saw a pastry shop. Well, I decided, why not treat the daughter to something sweet, and myself to coffee? And I didn’t regret it. Because the coffee was incredibly delicious. And I won’t even mention the cakes, so as not to blaspheme. And the girls liked everything. So much so that they refused to leave. They demanded more cakes. “Wendy, that’s enough!” I said sharply, trying to calm my daughter down. “No!” Wendy said stubbornly. “What’s this?” I was indignant. “Wendy, how are you behaving?” “Oh, girls, will you help me?” I suddenly heard a cheerful female voice nearby. “I got carried away with my order and realized I couldn’t finish it.” “What?” I gasped and looked at the girl who had said all that. “I ordered a fruit dessert and couldn’t finish it,” the incredibly beautiful blonde winked at me and put two plates on the table. Wendy immediately took the spoons and started eating dessert. “Oh,” I exhaled. “You shouldn’t have.” “I can’t stand it when such a nice girl cries,” the girl smiles. Yes, that's how we met by chance. And then we became friends. And now, heading to the HR department to pick up my documents, I was dreaming of only one thing: to call her. To tell her what happened to me. The HR department resolved everything very quickly. And they didn't even ask me to work for two weeks. That's what it means, an order from the boss. Only one thing made me happy: no one knew that I was the daughter of the company owner. Because we had different last names. I stayed under my mother's last name. My Mafia father was in no hurry to advertise me, thinking that it would even be better this way. You never know who might decide to get to the daughter of a big businessman. And so they considered me just the boss's mistress. Oh well. “Elena!” Tony called out to me already on the way out. “What?” I practically growled. “Here,” my brother thrust a folder of documents into my hands. “What is this?” I didn’t understand. “And these are the documents for your new apartment,” my brother said. “What do you mean?” I stared at Tony in bewilderment. “I think I explained everything clearly,” my brother looked at me in the same surprise. “Father told you to start living independently. That’s why you don’t work here and you have your apartment. Don’t worry about the money, I put so much on the card that you won’t even have to think about it. Well, yes, the girl with Wendy is already getting settled in their new place.” “So, you just got rid of me?” she asked angrily of her brother. “If it's so convenient for you to think so, then think so,” he shrugged. “But only in this way will you learn not to hide from life.” “So, huh?” I hissed. “Okay. Well, yeah, so you don't relax, I wish you to fall in love with the most unsuitable girl.” “Elena, don't freak out,” my brother advised. “It will be better for you.” “Go to hell,” I told him. I turned around and left. I didn't understand, and couldn't understand, how it happened that my most beloved people just turned away. More precisely, no, that's not it, they kicked me out with a kick in the ass, so to speak. Well, they deprived me of my job, deprived me of my housing, and evicted me to some incomprehensible apartment. It's good that they didn't deprive me of my money. Otherwise, it would have been really bad. Try to quickly find a good job with a decent salary. It's good that my brother, as he said, put money on my card. After all, this will allow me to calmly find a job, and not rush wherever I have to. With these thoughts, I got into the car, throwing the documents on the passenger seat. And then I took my phone out of my purse. I decided, after all, to call my father and find out what the hell was going on. Why the hell was he doing this to me? I'm not hiding behind his back. And I never hid. I lived quite normally. Well, just think about it, I rejected the suitors that my dad chose for me and tried to matchmake. Because after the first disastrous love, I didn't want anything else. I had my girl, and that's all I needed. I didn't want to be accused of God knows what again. And then abandoned to the mercy of fate. I sighed again and dialed my dad's number. The only response was: "The subscriber's device is switched off or is out of network coverage." "Oh, s**t!" I cursed, hanging up. "What the hell is that?" I wanted to dial again. Or at least leave a voice message. But as soon as I picked up the phone, the messages started coming in. I shook my head in bewilderment and opened the last one. I immediately exclaimed indignantly and began opening all the messages that had arrived.
