The silence he left behind wasn’t peaceful. It was loud. Too loud. I stood there for a long moment, staring at the door like it might open again, like he might walk back in and say something that would undo everything he’d just set into motion. But it didn’t. And he didn’t. He was gone. Yet somehow— It felt like he was still there. In the air. In my thoughts. In the way my chest hadn’t quite settled since he walked out. I exhaled slowly, dragging a hand through my hair before forcing myself to move. This was exactly what I didn’t want. No control. No clear boundaries. Just… uncertainty. I walked back into the kitchen, picking up the glass of water I’d abandoned earlier. It was still half full. Untouched. Just like my attempt at peace. I took a sip, but it didn’t help.
