Chapter 3It was 4:45am and just barely starting to get light when the howler monkeys started. The thundering roars of the howlers, which are one of the top five loudest animals on the planet, shook the jungle. As light crept through the leaves, more and more jungle residents joined in. The birds all had their own things to say. The toucans, guans, wood-rails, tinamous and flycatchers were also making themselves heard. This was one of our favorite times of the day. We usually went to bed early so getting up by five o'clock was quite acceptable. We ate fresh fruit, granola and yogurt for breakfast and drank coffee on the terrace overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Liz checked her email and found a photo that Lydia had sent of Anny laying on the couch. The caption read “All is well here Mom.”
