ALAENA’S POV
“I’m not going anywhere till you tell me what is going on!”
I say still seated in an already busted open cage Roy stood at the entrance.
I couldn’t see his facial expression but I’m sure he was frustrated.
“They locked you up”
He said calmly, we were talking in a hushed tone.
“Would you rather stay here?”
“No, I just need answers. Where are you taking me? I would rather be dead anyway but I want to know. And tell me what you know about the Croonies because they seem to not know a thing”
I replied finally crawling out of the cage, they didn’t even bother putting chains on me.
I wasn’t worth the fuss I guess.
“Follow me, you’ll get your answers plus you want to kill me right? You’ll get your chance “
He said before beginning to walk off.
“We need to get going it won’t be long before they know something’s happened ”
“Yeah, no sh*t*
I said under my breath before following him behind.
Where is Sergei? I thought to myself, did Roy kill him? Did he go ahead to scout a trail before Roy found me?
Well, at least I may get answers from Roy.
The moon was out again, so he could Shadow Meld us a very long distance if he wanted to but he wasn’t.
We just kept walking.
“What do you know about the prophecy ?”
He asked, breaking the silence, he was leading the way the moon had lit up the path.
This place looked different, there was a pathway through the swamp with really tall trees.
The moonlight Pierced through the tree line and cast a reflection on the smooth-flowing stream beside the pathway.
“ The moon who was promised?”
I was not sure of that particular text in the history books.
“The Luna who is promised will bring the moon and darkness will be no more in the land”
He replied not breaking his stride or turning to look my way.
“Well, why are you asking me about that?”
I asked him back.
“She wants to meet you”
“Who’s she?”
I asked again.
But he didn’t say anything and just kept walking.
“Oh no you don’t get to be all mysterious with me anymore “
I said while gritting my teeth trying not to be loud and attract any attention.
I caught up with him and stood right in his face.
“Listen I am tired you better f*cking tell all there is to f*cking tell or I’m going to scream my f*cking lungs out and they will find us!”
I said while poking at his rather firm chest, while he stood there hovering over me.
He looked down at me and for the first time, his eyes gave away some form of emotion.
But it left as fast as it flashed.
“If I could tell you I would, but I cannot until the time is right.”
“And who knows when the time is right ?”
I fired back immediately.
“Mahina”
He replied before shifting me to the side to continue walking.
“We’re almost there”
He said.
Mahina? The name sounded familiar, I had come across it in the text but I couldn’t put a finger on it.
What does Mahina want with the man that killed my father?
“Get down!”
Roy shouted before diving for me an arrow pierced through his back as shielded me.
“F*ck”
He said in pain
“Get behind that tree now!”
He said as two Croonies dropped from the trees.
They looked feral but one slung a quiver round its shoulder, these were higher Croonies.
Roy was holding them off while behind badly injured by the arrow shot, the full moon was helping him he had the speed advantage.
I hid behind the trees watching helplessly.
“Lae! Come on, let's go now!”
Sergei beckoned from a distance behind me, these men kept appearing and disappearing when they wanted.
“Where have you been !?”
I said running towards him.
“I told you to trust me!”
He replied while the commotion was going on behind us, I took a glance back at Roy. He saved my life just now and was badly injured.
He looked like he was struggling.
“Hey hey! Lae! We need to leave right now”
“I’m talking to the pack members not all feel like that you have friends at home we need to leave now”
He said as he began to make for the other way holding my hand.
I reluctantly followed him looking back to check what was going on with Roy.
“Come on Lae! “
He said this time tugging at me a bit more aggressively.
“Alaena!”
Roy screamed from behind us.
I turned around, he had taken one of the Croonies down and was locked with the other while shouting my name.
“Sergei! He made a deal with them!
Huh? I stopped in my tracks and turned back.
“What did you say?”
I asked back immediately, not minding that he was fighting for his life and badly injured.
He hit the Croonie on its knee breaking its hold on him.
He dropped down and brandished his iron claws slicing the gut of the Croonie open.
He dropped down to his knees, he was bleeding out and gasping for air.
“He!”
Roy managed to talk while pointing at Sergei.
“He- m-ade a dddd-eal with the Croonie K-ing!”
He managed to say while coughing out blood.
As he said that, the hairs on the back of my neck stood.
There was a strange noise coming from behind me where Sergei had stood.
I turned and saw something that I never expected to see.
Sergei was turning into a Croonie right before my eyes!
Roy was telling the truth?!
Sergei stood in front of me, fully turned drool coming down his lips.
I was crippled with fear.
“Run Alaena! Ruuuun!”
Roy screamed in his hoarse voice, coughing out more blood.
I tried moving but my legs couldn’t carry me.
I stood and watched as Sergei lunged at me, digging his teeth deep into my arm.
