I can't believe I'm actually going to watch a fight!
Of course, my dad doesn't really care, but to make it easier I just told him I was going out with the new group of friends I made at school today and he was extremely happy about it.
I'm getting ready until Alex and Lydia come to pick me up at home, but honestly, how on earth does a girl dress to watch a fight?
After staring at my wardrobe for a while, I decide not to make it too complicated and just wear skinny jeans and an off-the-shoulder ruffled top with sneakers. Why bother getting all dolled up?
Shortly after, I hear Lydia's car horn, and I bid a quick goodbye to my dad with a kiss on his forehead. When I get in the car, both Lydia and Alex are extremely excited. As I get in, it's Lydia who speaks up:
"Girl, today you're going to meet the real Brownveen!"
"No more delays, Lyd." Alex says impatiently. "Let's go because Jay's fight is the first one tonight, and I don't want to miss it!"
Smiling and without further delay, Lydia steps on the accelerator and we drive through the city's nighttime streets.
We pass by several people calmly walking until we reach the Liv On Bar they said the fights will take place. Apparently, Vanessa was informed via message and she passed on the address to the others. The plan is to meet her and Maya already at the place.
Lydia parks on the backstreet of the bar so that a cluster of cars doesn't attract the police's attention since they could easily become suspicious knowing about the underground fights.
The three of us get out of the car and walk towards the place with the sign that reads "Liv On." The facade consists of a few steps leading to a simple door. Passing through it, I still don't see any signs of a fight, just a dark and empty bar like any other. A table here and there with people and the counter with only one stool occupied.
Lydia is the one guiding us towards an open door at the back of the bar that leads to a dark staircase. At this moment, I start hearing the shouts, boos, and cheers that were previously muffled by the loud heavy metal playing through the speakers of the place.
We descend the steps with the voices and music getting louder and now I'm certain that I wasn't prepared to be in a place like this!
The space definitely isn't big enough for this event as the hundreds of people are tightly packed together. Everyone is excited and holding some drinks. But what makes me realize that this isn't the usual place for these fights are the makeshift barriers nailed to the floor to separate the audience from the two fighters inside the improvised cage.
I walk behind Alex, who follows Lydia making our way through the crowd until we finally find Vanessa and Maya.
"Hey, I thought Jay's fight would be the first!" Alex shouts to be heard by Vanessa.
"He already fought!" She replies sounding proud. I notice she's wearing a red crop top and tight leather pants, and I guess that's an example of how a girl dresses to attract the attention of the fighters, unlike Lydia or Maya, who prefer looser clothes. "It was against some weakling from the first year. He didn't last five minutes in the cage! It was amazing how Jay finished him off!"
"Damn! I wanted to see that," Lydia says disappointed.
"Don't worry!" Maya shouts in response. "It was so quick that he'll probably be back in the cage by the end of the night!"
Everyone gets excited and turns their attention back to the two shirtless and well-built boys exchanging punches in the center of the cage. One of them gets hit so hard by the other that I see blood and even a tooth flying out of his mouth.
The crowd goes wild, but all I can feel is a pang of nausea in my stomach. I've just arrived and I need to disappear before I get sick in front of my new friends.
I shout to Lydia asking where the nearest bathroom is, and she just tells me that the only one is upstairs in the bar, without even diverting her gaze from the fight.
I make my way through the crowd towards the staircase we came from and return to the monotony of the bar. I enter a narrow corridor next to the stairs to find the small, single bathroom of the place. I wait for a woman in leather pants and boots to come out so I can use it next.
I just splash some water on my face to fend off the nausea and exit through the corridor I came from, only to find the bar in chaos! The people who were previously crowded downstairs are now running uncontrollably, trying to reach the bar's exit. The music has stopped, and all that can be heard are the desperate screams of everyone.
I stand still at the mouth of the corridor, completely lost, not knowing where my friends are, what's happening, or what I should do.
How the hell did I end up in this chaos?
