The following morning, the palace was gradually settling into its usual activity when a royal attendant arrived at the princesses' chambers with an important considerably less enthusiastic.
"Well, I certainly have no intention of going."
Giselle turned towards her. "Jasvella!"
"What?" she asked, raising her eyebrows. "Am my welcoming the princess he is supposed to marry."
opposite him.
"I trust your stay at Dxrego has been comfortable thus far?"
"Very much so, Your Majesty. Your household has been most gracious in receiving us."
"I I hope it is nothing serious."
"Nothing to be concerned about, Your Majesty. I expect she shall be quite well by tomorrow."
"Very well. Please extend my good wishes to her."
"I shall, Your Majesty."
Herbert, who had been quietly observing the exchange, offered Giselle a pleasant smile.
"I hope you are looking forward to tomorrow evening, Princess. The palace has made considerable preparations for the occasion."
"I certainly am, Your Highness. It has been some time since I last attended a royal ball."
Ivan inclined his head.
"Then I trust the evening will prove enjoyable."
Giselle smiled politely. "I have no doubt it will, Your Majesty."
The conversation continued briefly before Giselle took her leave.
As the doors closed behind her, Herbert glanced towards his brother.
"Your future bride appears rather agreeable."
Ivan returned his attention to the papers on the table.
"She seems perfectly pleasant."
Meanwhile, Jasvella remained in her chambers, quite content with her decision not to attend the King's summons.
