I couldn't remember how I had fled Vale Manor that night. Even the next morning, I was still trembling from how completely he had cornered me.
I had to take control of my life again.
At 9:00 a.m., I knocked on the glass door of Soren's top-floor executive office and slapped a formal transfer request onto his desk.
He didn't even look up. He pulled the Montblanc pen from his breast pocket and signed with astonishing ease.
Instead of reassuring me, his ready cooperation made my heart sink.
"Take it to HR." He leaned back in his chair.
I gritted my teeth and reached for the document. Just before my fingers touched the edge, Soren pinned down the opposite side with two long fingers.
"Do you really think moving to another floor will sever whatever this is between us?" He leaned forward slightly, his gaze roaming over the neckline of my blouse.
"There is nothing between us," I hissed.
"I signed it, Maya." He released the page without warning and watched me stumble back. A faint smile touched his lips. "I did it to prove that even when I'm no longer your boss, you'll come to me on your own."
A shudder ran through me. I snatched up the document and fled.
I spent the entire afternoon on edge. Just before the end of the workday, Lucas Grant, the young, handsome department manager, stopped beside my desk.
"Maya, I heard about your transfer. Would you let me take you to dinner tonight to celebrate?"
He gave me a charming smile.
I glanced toward the end of the corridor. Soren stood with a cup of coffee behind the slats of his office blinds, watching us with icy intensity.
A reckless urge for revenge surged through me.
"Of course, Lucas," I said.
At 7:00 p.m., I entered the underground garage.
Two powerful arms shot out of the darkness and clamped around my waist.
I tried to scream, but a large hand covered my mouth. He lifted me off my feet and dragged me into the back seat of a black Maybach. The door slammed, and the soundproof partition rose at once, sealing us off from the driver.
The cabin fell silent.
Soren loomed over me, his fury filling the narrow space.
"Let me go!" I struggled wildly, my heels striking the door.
He didn't waste a word. One hand forced both my wrists above my head while the other ripped open the collar of my silk blouse.
Two pearl buttons tore free and bounced across the floor.
"Soren, you're insane! Lucas is waiting for me!" I cried.
At the sound of that name, his expression turned savage. He lowered his head and fastened his mouth onto the most visible spot where my neck met my collarbone, sucking and biting hard.
"That hurts..."
It wasn't a kiss. It was a brutal mark. Nearly 30 seconds passed before he finally lifted his head.
A dark red bruise, already shading purple, spread across my pale skin.
Breathing slightly faster, Soren admired his work. He released my wrists, calmly took a handkerchief from his pocket, and wiped the corner of his mouth. Then he reached out and slowly straightened my ruined blouse.
He deliberately left the torn section open.
"Go." He returned to the opposite seat, once again every inch the untouchable CEO. His voice held no warmth.
"Wear my mark when you meet him." His gaze remained on me in the darkness, his tone slow and cruel. "Go enjoy your evening of fine dining. Let him see exactly who your body wants."
