THE ESCAPE

Chapter 8: The Escape Mom grabbed my hand, and we turned to run. But Dad was too fast. He lunged forward, his long strides covering the distance between us in an instant. We dodged and weaved, trying to avoid his grasp. But Dad's new form was too powerful. He caught Mom's arm, his grip like a vice. "Let her go!" I shouted, trying to pry his fingers loose. But Dad just laughed, a cold, menacing sound. "You can't stop me," he said. "I'm beyond human now." I knew we had to think fast. I remembered the words on the paper I found in the shoe: "Unleash the power, but beware the cost." Maybe there was a way to reverse the effects. I spotted a nearby object, a small statue on a shelf. I grabbed it and threw it at Dad's head, momentarily distracting him. Mom took advantage of the distraction to break free. We ran out of the house, not stopping until we were blocks away. Breathless and shaken, we looked back at the house. Dad's figure loomed in the window, his eyes still burning with an otherworldly energy. "We have to get help," Mom said, her voice firm. "We can't face this alone." I nodded, my mind racing with possibilities. Who could we turn to? And how could we save Dad from the shoes' grip? As we walked away from the house, I knew that our lives would never be the same. The Super Shoes had unleashed a power that threatened to destroy everything we knew.
