Over the next several days, I made a habit of taking a nice long walk after closing up the store. The spring weather was beautiful and the daylight hours were getting longer. This was a fresh start, I told myself, a way to clear my head and get out into nature and into a healthy routine. Though somehow, I always managed to walk by Pepper’s house. Each time I walked by, I sighed when I saw the Real Estate agent’s sign was still there and Trixie wasn’t at the door, pressing her nose to the glass as I passed. And yet, every evening, no matter which direction I set out, I always found my way to Pepper’s house.
