The night was dark and long, even the air felt heavy. After moving Lyra to our bed, I sat down next to her, holding her and listening to her screams echo through the room, making me grateful for the privacy spell, because Aidan would have been frantic. I couldn't believe this was happening. I hated myself for not letting her walk through the portal ahead of me. That one decision would torture me for life.
