The lights were too blinding.
Mr. Perfect was waiting for me at the bar counter; completely drunk. I was partially sober; the whiskey was making my guts worse.
One. Two. Three. I kept counting.
Three. Four. Seven... what?
Suddenly I was on the dance floor, dancing like a complete wreck. I couldn't remember who was with me.
"Are you number six?" I was asking the guy next to me. He was someone I knew, someone at school, Jake Burrows.
"Do you wanna hook up with me tonight?" He was proposing.
"What? I cant hear you!!!" I grumbled, noisily trying to figure out why his lips were moving.
Then, I found Jake kissing me. Kissing me hard, harder until we were made apart by somebody.
"Hey! Get your f*****g bullshit off my girl!"
I found my perfect boyfriend swearing at Jake, wide eyed and horror stricken.
But I was not feeling guilty for kissing another guy.
I was happy.
I was very satisfied at the mess I've already made.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
I stood bolt upright in my bed. The alarm was ringing as crazy and I realized that it was almost noon. Which meant that I won't be able to go to school.
But what had happened to me?
It was as if I had a long dream...
I hurried downstairs to meet Gemma. I was not expecting my mother to sleep on the floor in her jeans. Her brown hair was tangled and she had dark circles under her eyes.
"When did you get back sweetie?" She was brawling, "I thought you slept with Mr. Perfect yesterday night..."
"What? Gem- mom, you can't be serious?" I was saying.
I stopped rudely.
OMG, how did I end up in my bed?
I was quite sure that I fainted in Adrian's place. But who brought me home? Even without Gemma noticing?
"What were you doing yesterday night?" I asked Gemma sheepishly.
She smirked at me.
"I got drunk."
"Drunk? But why?" I was stupefied.
"Your dad called me yesterday after you went," she exclaimed, nevertheless.
"So?" I began.
"He said that the date's all set. For the dumb wedding I mean. They even invited me and you to their wedding. How kind of him to invite his poor ex wife and his daughter!"
Oh.
"Don't tell me you don't know how I ended up in my bed... did you even lock up the door?" I stammered.
"I can't remember. I dunno." She was mumbling.
"Rest mother." It was the first time I heard myself call Gemma as mother.
I decided to go out that evening. Adrian's tuition was not due today because I was not informed. Currently, I was walking up the pavement, my face hooded. I was wearing my usual outfit, a baggy sweater and a pair of yoga pants.
I think I would not be able to face Adrian again, I thought.
Yesterday, he might have drove me home all by himself. He must have carried me and put me to bed too.
OMG, what should I do???
Suddenly, my phone buzzed.
It was a text message.
"Are you okay? Did you sleep well?"
Who was this?
I ignored the text. Who knows, I might be getting stalked by strangers. Then there was another text message.
"Where are you?"
'Hell',I replied.
"Okay. Just don't faint in hell.?"
My assumption was correct, it was Adrian stalking me. I did not really want to know how he got my very private phone number.
Just as I walked down the alley to the snack bar down the main road, I bumped into someone.
"Hey watch your way!" Her voice was squeaking. I looked above my hood to see who it was.
It was the last person I'd want to see.
"Oh, is this that dorky new girl who challenged me? Am I right girls?" Ziara was flipping her super blonde hair in my side.
I tried to move through the crew of cheerleaders.
"Hey where do you think you are going?" Ziara was shrieking at me. I looked back at her.
"To that snack bar. Why? Do you want me to buy you something?" I snapped back rudely at her and shuffled myself away from them.
"Look who's talking..." Ziara was swearing at me.
I knew that they were not the surrendering type. As I expected, Ziara's crew of girls were dragging me away in a fraction of a minute. I tried to grab hold to the ground.
"Mind your own damn business and let me go!" I shouted in between my struggles.
"Leave her alone." Someone said behind me. It was a perfect masculine voice that was music to my ears.
As I turned back to see who it was, I wished I had stayed at home with Gemma.
Adrian, my knight in shining armor, stood smirking in his Butterscotch BMW.
"Ziara, let Serena go." Adrian was saying, commanding with much force.
The poor girl let go of my wrist.
"Fine." She said, " I see that she's your new chick. Go on chicken licken, hope you get dumped soon."
Then they left leaving me alone with Adrian.
I just wished I was with the Girl Crew than being with Adrian.
"Hey." Adrian was saying. "Come on in."
I gingerly sat on the front seat without any protest.
I was really embarrassed at seeing him after fainting in his arms.
"Did you forget your medicine yesterday?" He suddenly blurted out.
I was speechless.
Had Gemma told him?
"How do you know?" I murmured, quietly.
"I had my private physician check you after you fainted. He said that you have problems in your kidney and gave you the paramedics." Adrian explained.
"And your mom was not in good senses when I brought you home. I asked her to let you know, but I figured she wouldn't have remembered me at all."
Still, I was so shy.
"You are blushing..." He admitted.
"Adrian, I was wondering if you... um..." I stared at him.
"What?" He asked me.
I looked at him for a moment.
"Well nothing, I though maybe you had..."
"No, I'm not that shameless. Mrs. Reece undressed you into your pajamas yesterday. I don't undress random women," he said and started the engine.
I felt even more embarrassed at asking.
" Where are we going?" I asked.
Adrian smiled at me and said;
"I want you to meet someone. She came in yesterday and I think she is like you. I guess you two would get together well."
"Eh... Okay." I answered, not being able to reject his angelic face.
