The hybrid pup's glowing eyes locked into with unnatural intelligence, it's tiny chest rising and falling as red curse energy pulsed beneath it's skin. The ritual hall reeked of blood, sweat and burning runes. My scalpel felt heavy in my hand, the awakened curse humming like lightening in my veins.
Leo was taken.
Darius lay on the cracked floor, laughing through split lips. "Choose, Rhea. Submit to the bond and I'll call my men off. Refuse... and the hybrid will hunt your son down before sunrise."
Ryker snarled, blood dripping from his knuckles as he stood over Darius. His golden eyes found mine, raw possession and dear flashing for the first time. "Don't you dare."
The rogue Alphas closed in tighter around me. Jax's hand gripped my arm, Kai pressed against my back, Zane and Draco flanking us with wolves partially shifted.
Elias, my best friend's father, extended his hand again, voice smooth and tempting. "Come with me, Rhea. I can extract your son safely. No more games. You and the boy will be protected."
I felt every stare burning into mine, still the queen inside me refused to kneel. The mother in me refused to lose Leo.
I made my choice.
I slammed the glowing scalpel into the hybrid pup's chest not to kill, but to bind. The curse surged through the blade, wrapping around the stolen threads of my DNA and Ryker's power. The pup screamed, body convulsing but instead of dying the energy stabilized under my control.
The widow gasped again, eyes wide with horror. "What are you doing?!"
"Taking back what you stole," I said coldly.
Power flooded me. I could feel the hybrid's connection to Leo like a glowing red thread. With a sharp mental command, I twisted the curse. The hybrid pup went limp, temporarily neutralized, it's hunting instincts severed.
Darius rose in fury raging towards me. Ryker met him halfway, the two Alphas crashing together in a whirlwind of claws and rage. The rogue Alphas exploded into action. Jax and Kai tore through Silver Moon enforcers to clear a path. Zane and Draco shifted fully, massive wolves guarding our escape route.
"Move!" Ryker barked at me, grabbing my wrist as we ran towards the exit.
Elias blocked our path for a split second, eyes dark with disappointment and hunger. "You're making a mistake, Rhea. I could have given you peace."
Kai shoved him aside with a growl. "She doesn't need your peace she has us."
We burst out of the pack house into the cold night air. Bikes roared to life. I climbed behind Ryker, arms wrapped tight around his waist as the convoy tore down the forest road towards the safe house where Leo had been taken.
The wind whipped my hair. Ryker's body was rigid with tension beneath my hands. "if they've hurt him..."
"They won't," I said against his back, voice steady even as fear clawed at my chest. "The hybrid is bound to me now. I can track Leo through the connection."
Behind us, the rogue rode hard, their bikes flanking ours.
We reached the secondary safe house in minutes. The front gates were smashed open, bodies of Ryker's prospect's lying on the ground. My heart stopped.
Ryker kicked the door open, gun raised. The inside was chaos overturned furniture, blood on the walls. The nanny was unconscious but alive. Leo was gone.
A single note was pinned to the wall with a silver dagger.
'Bring the queen to the old rink at dawn. Alone or the boy shifts under silver chains and the hybrid finishes what it started.'
Ryker's roar shook the walls. He punched the concrete, cracking it. The rogue Alphas spread out, searching for clues, their bodies brushing mine as they moved- touches no longer accidental.
Jax faced me. "We'll get Leo back even if we have to go blood for blood."
The tension between Ryker and the rogue Alphas crackled like wild fire.
"You are mine," Ryker turned towards me. "The boy. You, say it."
I stepped back. "I belong to no one until Leo is safe."
But even as I said those words, the awakened curse pulsed stronger inside me. I could feel the hybrid's faint thread and Leo's location pulling at my mind. I could also feel the bonds connecting Ryker and the four rogue Alphas to me- threads I could tug or snap at will.
Dawn was only hours away. The queen had bound one monster tonight. Now she had to face the rest.
As we prepared to ride out again, Elias's voice echoed from the shadows outside - he had followed us.
"One last offer, Rhea. I will bring the boy to you and end this war. Or watch these males tear each other apart over you."
Ryker's eyes flashed black. The rogue Alphas growled low.
I stood at the center of the storm, curse power singing in my blood, knowing that every choice from this moment forward would either free us all or destroy everything I loved and cared for.
