Chapter 16

We didn’t return to the Blood Howlers clubhouse. It was too exposed. Instead, Ryker led us to a hidden safe cabin deep in the northern woods — a reinforced log structure with steel shutters and an underground bunker. The ride there was silent except for the roar of engines and Leo’s occasional soft whimpers against my chest. The moment we were inside, I laid Leo down in the secure back room with the nanny and locked the door. Then I turned to Ryker. He was leaning against the kitchen counter, shirt gone, deep claw marks across his chest still seeping blood despite my earlier binding. The rebound from the curse had left him pale and breathing hard. “Sit,” I ordered, voice sharp with surgeon’s authority. Ryker obeyed, but his golden eyes never left me as I approached with my medical kit. The rogue Alphas filled the room behind me their bodies radiating heat and unrestrained hunger. The broken pact had changed everything. I cleaned the wounds quickly, my hands steady. The awakened curse stirred inside me again as I worked, threads of power instinctively reaching out to stabilize Ryker. Red energy flickered between my fingers and his skin. “You’re burning power too fast,” Ryker rasped, catching my wrist. His thumb stroked over my pulse. “I can feel it. The curse… it’s feeding on you now.” Before I could answer, Kai stepped closer, his chest brushing my back. “Let us help carry it.” His hand settled on my hip, possessive and warm. “You don’t have to do this alone anymore.” Jax moved to my other side, his fingers gently pushing my hair aside to expose my neck. “The pup is safe. Now it’s time we talk about what comes next, Rhea.” Zane and Draco closed in, their presence overwhelming. Four rogue Alphas, no longer restrained, circling me with dark, open desire. Their touches grew bolder — Kai’s hand sliding up my waist, Jax’s lips hovering near my ear, Zane’s palm resting on my lower back. Heat flooded my body. The queen in me recognized the power I held over them. The woman in me felt the terrifying thrill of being wanted so violently after years of being discarded. Ryker growled low, pulling me between his legs so my back pressed against his chest. “She’s not yours to touch.” “Pact’s dead, King,” Kai replied, voice rough. “We rode for her. We bled for her. We’re done watching from the sidelines.” The tension spiked. Ryker’s arm banded around my waist like iron while the rogue Alphas pressed closer, hands grazing my arms, my hips, my thighs. The air crackled with raw, dangerous need. I placed my palm flat on Ryker’s chest, pushing just enough power through the curse to close the worst of the wounds. He groaned, head dropping to my shoulder as the pain eased. But the price hit me like a wave. Dizziness crashed over me. My knees buckled. The awakened curse, used too aggressively tonight, was draining me faster than I expected. Elias’s warning echoed in my mind: every time you use it, it binds you tighter to all of them. Ryker caught me instantly, lifting me onto the counter so I sat facing him. “Rhea.” “I’m fine,” I lied, but my voice was weaker than I wanted. Kai stepped between my legs without hesitation, tilting my chin up. His eyes glowed with concern and hunger. “You’re not fine. The curse is pulling from you. Let us help balance it.” Jax’s hand slid up my thigh, slow and deliberate. “We can take some of the weight. Share the power. Share everything.” The room grew hotter. Five powerful males surrounding me, their obsession no longer hidden. Ryker’s hands tightened on my waist while Kai leaned in, lips brushing my jaw. Zane and Draco watched with wolfish intensity, waiting for any sign I would allow more. For one charged moment, I let myself feel it — the intoxicating rush of being the center of their world. The queen who could make Alphas kneel. Then Leo’s sleepy voice called from the other room. “Mommy?” Reality snapped back. I pushed them all back gently but firmly, sliding off the counter. “Not now. Not while my son is still in danger and the widow is still breathing.” Ryker stood, pulling me against his freshly healed chest. His voice was low, meant only for me. “When this war ends, little queen, you won’t be able to push us away so easily.” Kai’s eyes darkened with promise. “We’ve waited years. We can wait a little longer. But when the time comes… you choose, or we make the choice unforgettable.” A heavy knock sounded at the cabin door. One of Ryker’s prospects entered, face grim. “Elias just sent a message. He has the widow in custody. He says he’ll hand her over… but only if Rhea meets him alone at the old pack training grounds at noon. He claims he has information about the hybrid’s true purpose — and a way to permanently sever the curse’s drain on her.” Ryker’s grip tightened. The rogue Alphas exchanged dark looks. I stared at the prospect, mind racing. Elias’s offer smelled like another trap, but refusing might cost us critical intel. Leo called for me again from the back room. The queen stood surrounded by five dangerous males, each one willing to burn the world for her — or for the right to claim her. Noon was only hours away. And the price of my awakened power was becoming clearer with every beat of my heart.
