The Silver Moon training grounds stretched out like a frozen battlefield under the noon sun, the massive outdoor ice rink cracked and glittering with fresh frost. Silver Moon wolves lined the perimeter in tight formation, their eyes glowing with anticipation. In the center, chained to a reinforced goalpost, my Leo trembled, golden eyes wide with terror, silver suppressing chains glowing ominously around his small wrists and ankles. The widow stood beside him, one hand on her swollen belly, a smug smile twisting her lips. Darius waited at the edge of the ice, flanked by his enforcers, his face a mask of jealous triumph.
Our convoy skidded to a halt at the entrance. I slid off Ryker's bike before he could stop me, my red dress flaring beneath the open black surgeon's coat like spilled blood on snow. The rougue Alphas dismounted behind me, their bodies tense, the broken blood pact crackling in the air like static before a storm. Jax, Kai, Zane and Draco moved in close, their heat surrounding me, eyes dark with leashed hunger and protection.
Ryker's hand clamped my wrist, yanking me back against his chest. "Stay behind me," he growled, voice low and dangerous. His golden eyes burned into mine, obsession and fury warring. "This ends today, Rhea. No more running. No more chains , except mine."
Darius's laugh echoed across the ice. "Look at you, Rhea. Playing queen with the cursed King and his dogs. But you're still the wolfless sacrifice I threw away. Step into the ice alone, or watch your bastard pup die trying to shift."
Leo's small voice cut through the tension, trembling. " Mommy... it hurts..."
My heart shattered and reforged into something sharper. I pulled free from Ryker's grip and stepped onto the ice, heels clicking with surgeon's precision. The cold bit through my shoes, but I kept my head high. The queen who had risen from betrayal would not kneel again.
"Release him," I called, voice clear and steady. "The ritual dies with me here. Touch my son and I swear on every life I've saved and taken - I will let your precious widow bleed out on my table tomorrow, pregnant or not."
The widow's smile faltered for a split second. Darius's eyes narrowed, flicking to her belly. "She carries my true heir. You and your cursed spawn are liabilities now."
Ryker and the rogue Alphas advanced onto the ice behind me, leather cuts and heavy boots cracking the surface. The four Alphas formed a protective semi circle, their gazes locked on Leo and me. Jax's hand brushed my lower back as he positioned himself, the contact deliberate now that the pact was broken. Heat flared where he touched, forbidden and intoxicating. Kai moved to my other side, his thigh grazing mine. Zane and Draco closed in, their presence a living wall of muscle and raw want.
The air thickened. The broken pact no longer retrained them. Four dangerous men, bound for years by a promise to their dead friend, now free to crave the woman they had watched grow into a lethal goddess.
Darius raised a hand. Silver Moon enforcers tightened the circle. "Begin the ritual," he ordered. Two shamans stepped forward, chanting low as they activated the old mate bond runes on the ice. Glowing lines spread from Darius towards me, attempting to overweight the curse mark Ryker had burned into my skin three years ago.
Pain lanced through my chest. The cursed flared in response - Ryker's mark heating like a brand on my collarbone. I gasped, knees buckling, but Ryker caught me, pulling me flush against his body. "Fight it, Rhea," he rasped against my ear, one hand splaying possessively over my stomach. "You broke me once with your touch. Break him now."
Leo cried out as the silver chains tightened, forcing the shift to begin. His small body convulsed, bones starting to crack and reform too early, too violently. Golden fur brighter.
"No!" I lunged forward, but Darius's enforcers blocked me. In the chaos, Kai and Jax moved as one, taking down two wolves with brutal efficiency. Zane fired a shot that shattered a shaman's rune stone. Draco shifted partially, his wolf form snarling as he guarded Leo's flank.
The widow laughed, voice weak but venomous. "Too late, Surgeon. The ritual will bind you back to Darius. The boy will die or become his weapon. And your Lycan King?" She gestured at Ryker. "His curse fully activates if the bond breaks wrong. He'll lose control and become the monster you feared."
Ryker roared, charging Darius. The two Alphas collided on the ice, fists and claws flying, cracking the rink further. Blood sprayed across the frost. I broke free and ran to Leo, dropping to my knees beside him. My surgeon hands worked fast pulling a hidden vial of suppressants from my coat, injecting it into his arm to slow the forced shift. "Hold on, baby," I whispered, tears freezing on my lashes. "Mommy's here. I won't let them take you."
But the runes kept spreading. The old mate bond pulled at me, trying to drag me towards Darius. Pain doubled me over. Jax was suddenly there, his strong arms hauling me up against his chest. "Rhea breath. We've got you." His hand cupped my face, thumb brushing lip. The touch was fire. No pact left to stop him. His eyes darkened, lips hovering close. "Let us help break it. All of us. You don't have to carry this alone anymore."
Kai pressed in from the other side, his body heat enveloping me. "One word from you and we claim what should have been ours years ago. The pact is ash. You're the only thing that matters."
Zane and Draco closed the circle tighter, their hands grazing my arms, the broken pact turning their protection into something darker, more intimate.
Ryker broke free from Darius for a second, eyes black with rage as he sa the rogue Alphas surrounding me. "Get your hands off her."
The tension exploded. Darius laughed, lunging again. "See, Rhea? Even your new pack wants to tear you apart. Come back to me and I'll spare the boy... for now."
Leo's shift accelerated despite the suppressants. A pained howl tore from his small throat as golden fur spread further. The widow stepped closer, placing a hand on his head, murmuring words that made the the chains glow brighter.
I felt the curse mark on my skin burning hotter, Ryker's obsession and Darius's old bond warring inside me. My mind raced- surgical precision meeting queen's revenge. I had planned this for three years. Time to use every weapon.
With a sharp movement, I pulled the glowing scalpel from my boots the one that morphed into wolf claws when needed and slashed at the nearest rune line on the ice. Sparks flew. The ritual faltered.
But the widow smiled wider. "Clever, but you forgot one thing."
She snapped her fingers. Hidden Silver Moon archers rose from the stands, arrows nocked with silver tips aimed at Ryker, the rogue Alphas and Leo.
"Choose now, Rhea frost," Darius called, breathing hard from the fight. "Submit to the remating. Let the ritual be complete. Or watch them all die while your son shifts to death."
Ryker's eyes met mine across the chaos - raw, possessive, begging me to fight with him.
The rogue Alphas pressed closer, their touches no longer accidental, bodies vibrating with the need to claim and protect.
Leo howled again, the shift reaching a dangerous peak.
My heart slammed against my ribs as the arrows drew back.
The queen had to make her move or lose everything in one frozen second.
