The Contract

2023 Words
“You made the right choice, Troublesome,” Alex smiled at her and took out his phone from his pocket. He gave it to her and instructed, “Punch in your number. We’ll communicate about this offer more when I get comfortable at home.” Bianca took the phone from him with shaky hands. What the hell was she doing on a random Monday night with a total stranger? Was she out of her mind? She was probably out of her mind, but what the f**k? She saved her number on his phone and gave it back to him. “What am I going to get out of this marriage?” Bianca asked him. She just couldn’t marry him without getting anything meaningful. “Patience, Troublesome,” Alex glared at her. “I’ll call you. Now, good night.” Bianca watched him drive off and dragged a long hiss. She was rooted to the ground as she began to think if it was reality or a dream that had just unfolded in front of her eyes. Did she just agree to marry a stranger based on stupid things? She quickly took out her phone and began to look up the man. It had been a while since she did her research on him. Now was the time to do more research. Her lips twisted in amusement, and she gave a sly smile immediately the results came out. She began to scroll as she read about the man. So many scandals and interesting accusations involving him. He must be a very interesting and popular fellow in the world for him to be dragged, but it’s quite impressive that he’s still number one. ** Tuesday morning looked productive and lively as Alexander didn’t come to the office. It was only Maya who was there to keep up with the latest developments and all. Of course, the employees were extremely happy that their boss wasn’t around. Everybody did their thing with peace of mind as the atmosphere was not tense or heavy. Nobody was there to scold them or glare at them at the slightest provocation. Alexander went to see Daniella Banks, who couldn’t believe that Alex called off the wedding that was supposed to take place between them. Alex made time to go see her because he needed her to come to her senses — because there was no wedding going to take place between them. “Good morning,” Daniella greeted and sat. Her greeting was not returned. She watched the man in front of her lift the cup to his lips with his elegant fingers—so long and veiny. “I believe you heard from my mother about the latest news,” Alex hit the nail on the head. He had no time to waste on her. “I wanted to hear it from you,” Daniella replied with a smile. “That you’ll hear now,” Alex smiled. “I have no interest in making you my wife because I have a wife.” Daniella looked at him with shock. Did she just hear him say he has a wife? What does he mean by the word wife? Does he know the meaning of a wife? “Wife? You have a wife?” Daniella asked again to confirm that she heard right. “Perhaps you need help with a hearing aid as you can’t hear me properly,” Alex snapped. “I heard you,” Daniella replied sharply. “Then, I believe this meeting is over.” He rose from his seat. “Give me a chance, Alexander,” Daniella fumed. “Why should I see two women at the same time? Besides, you’re not my type. You’re pretty ugly, as I have high standards,” Alex mocked her and left. Daniella watched him leave and tightened her fist. She was beyond furious. She was embarrassed in public by him. How dare he? He better watch his back. She grabbed her purse and left the place in anger. ** Alexander’s parents were in a heated argument in the bedroom. The mother was just informing the father of the discussion she had with her child after he left the table. He didn’t look pleased to hear that his wife gave their son a listening ear. He thought his wife was smarter than that, but she dismissed the idea of allowing him to marry the girl they planned for him to marry and went ahead to allow him to marry the one he chose. Speaking of choosing, she didn’t see the so-called wife of their son but went ahead to let him do as he wished when she knew that he definitely lied to her. He shouldn’t have gotten up from his seat. He should have waited till the talking ended. “He said he would get married next week, Richard. Why are you making this my fault?” His wife yelled at him. “It’s your fault, Maria!” Richard yelled back. He was certain that his arrogant son fooled his wife and fooled him too. He asked his men to find out about his son, and they told him he wasn’t seeing anyone at the moment but met with Daniella that morning to officially cancel the wedding plans. “You know what, I’m leaving. And don’t you dare call me for anything,” Maria rose from the bed in anger. “Where are you going to? You forget that this is your freaking home, Maria!” Richard scoffed. He knew his wife was bluffing because she couldn’t leave him alone. “Goodbye,” Maria said and left the room. Richard just sighed and left her alone. She was definitely bluffing because she couldn’t leave him. She couldn’t be angry at him because he was also definitely angry. He had more pressing issues to attend to, so he left her alone and got ready for work. His wife would be fine. She always got upset anytime it was about their eldest son. Speaking of children, their daughter would be coming home that day. ** “Sorry I’m late. Good morning,” Bianca said in a hushed voice and sat down opposite the emotionless man. She could never tell what he was thinking as he always had that blank look on his face. “Hmm,” was the only thing he said. He passed a folder to her and watched her carefully. Bianca took the folder and glanced at him. She blinked as she stared at the document. It was a contract. She looked at him again and decided to flip through the pages. “You should read through the contract carefully,” Alexander spoke with authority. “Okay. You need to stop intimidating me with that voice. Can’t you speak—” She stopped speaking at the cold stare she received from him. “It’s fine. I’ll just look through it… carefully.” “Good.” Alex cleared his throat. “You’re going to be paying me this much?” Bianca widened her eyes in surprise. Alex knew he had gotten her trapped by including that sum of money. She would say yes to his proposal at the end of the day. He had gotten her trapped so she couldn’t escape or leave without signing the contract. There was no time anymore for whatever pranks she would try to play with him that morning. “The contract comes with a lot of benefits. You would be wise enough to sign it,” Alex spoke with his gaze fixed on her. “What do you mean by we would be living together? I would live in your house?” Bianca was confused. “You don’t want to? We have to live together because we’re married. You should make use of your senses, woman,” Alex hissed. “Hey, look here, whatever your name is. Can’t you speak with respect? You’re so arrogant,” she muttered the last part but he heard her. “My name is Alex, Bianca. You should know that by now,” Alex smirked. “Your name is just a random title. Nothing special about it,” Bianca replied with nonchalance. “Oh really?” Alex smiled. “Yes. Find it hard to know the truth?” Bianca smirked. She just wanted to wipe that ugly smile off his silly face. His face pissed her off. What a loser. “We’re going to live together. You can’t change that,” Alex stated coldly. “You’re free to go out and do whatever you want. We are getting married next week, but you’re going to meet my parents before then.” Bianca didn’t say anything. She just nodded her head because there was nothing for her to say anyway. The money involved caught her interest, and looking at other benefits apart from the money would make her sign the contract after all. “One year doesn’t sound too bad,” she commented with a small smile. The man nodded his head. He didn’t say a word at all. Maybe she was boring him, but Bianca didn’t care. “Would you like the money to be transferred into your account, or is it cash that you want?” Alex asked. “I didn’t say I would sign the contract,” Bianca smirked. “But you will,” Alex replied, returning her smirk. Bianca didn’t say anything because he was right. He was right, and she was wrong. “You can wire it to my account,” she muttered. “What was that?” Alex asked with a sly smile. Bianca raised her head and saw him sitting pretty with a funny expression. He was getting on her nerves already, and now he was pretending to be deaf. Alex took out his phone and got busy for some minutes. There were so many calls from his parents and other unread messages. He knew why his parents were calling him, but he wouldn’t return their calls. They would see each other on Friday for dinner and next week for the wedding. All of them would be fine at the end of the day. For now, he had to take care of the woman in front of him. He suddenly heard her laughing and raised his head to picture what was funny. “You think I’ll fall in love with someone like you?” She pointed at him and began to laugh again. Alex was glad that he rented the whole restaurant because she had an ugly laugh. A very ugly laugh. Was she really a lady? “You’re not even my type. You’re too proud. You don’t have basic manners and don’t respect people. I can’t fall in love with someone like you, so don’t dream big,” she said seriously. Alex ignored her and wired some money to her. It was better that he didn’t reply to her because he had a nasty comment in mind. He was glad he didn’t speak after all. “How did you get my account number?” Bianca gasped as she counted the zeros behind the numbers. “I guess that’s your way of thanking me,” Alex rolled his eyes. “Oh, thank you. Thank you ver—” “Sign the contract and let’s get it over with. I’ll tell you whatever you need to know when I have time to. You can ask me anything,” Alex checked the time on his wristwatch. “I don’t like you interrupting me,” Bianca spoke out. “Hmm,” was the only thing he said. Alex watched her fetch the pen and sign the contract. He took the pen from her and also signed the necessary places that needed his signature. “My lawyer will meet up with you for the necessary things. I’ll be on my way now,” he rose with the contract. Bianca watched him leave and sank into the chair. She had just signed a contract with Alexander Blackwood. She was a step away from being called a married woman. Being married to a stranger for a year. That was so crazy!
