The Prosecutor’s Office.
Inside the prosecutor’s office, people came and went. The security guard at the entrance stopped Leonie and asked, “Miss, may I ask what you are here for?”
Leonie replied, “I’d like to find Mr. Carrington. Is he here?”
The guard looked at her with suspicion and asked, “May I ask who you are?”
The guard was being cautious because not just anyone could see Mr. Carrington, and Leonie seemed to be specifically looking for him.
“I... I’m a friend of Mr. Carrington. I need to speak with him about something. Could you please make a call to check if he’s available?”
“Please write your name on the guest registration form first.”
As Leonie focused on signing, the security guard suddenly saluted, “Good day, sir!”
Leonie snapped back to attention, raising her eyes to see a group of people walking toward her.
The man at the front was dressed in a dark, sharply tailored suit, walking with confident, composed steps. When he descended the stairs, his gaze was cold and distant.
If it weren’t for her prior encounter with Alaric, she would never have believed the distinguished man in front of her had been the same one who had joked with her last night.
The security guard, noticing something unusual, reminded her, “Miss, the prosecutor’s office is receiving other senior officials today. Please wait a moment.”
Leonie nodded, unable to take her eyes off the man.
Alaric was so outstanding that even in a crowd, he instantly attracted everyone’s attention.
Fortunately, the meeting ended quickly.
Alaric noticed Leonie and walked toward her. He glanced at her and asked, “What’s the matter?”
Leonie, feeling a bit embarrassed, spoke up, “Mr. Carrington, I have a case and was wondering if I could trouble you for some help. Would that be possible?”
Alaric raised an eyebrow, a trace of complex emotion flashing in his eyes. “Miss Ford, given our... relationship, don’t you think your request is a bit too forward?”
His tone was slightly teasing, and it wasn’t hard to notice.
Leonie felt a little awkward.
Indeed, she and Alaric didn’t have a deep relationship; she was just an insignificant outsider. If she had any other options, she wouldn’t have asked for his help.
Seeing that Leonie didn’t respond immediately, Alaric glanced down at his watch and said, “Sorry, Miss Ford, it’s work hours, and I have other matters to attend to.”
His tone clearly implied that the conversation was coming to an end.
Not wanting to miss the chance to interact with Alaric, Leonie hurriedly grabbed the edge of his coat.
Alaric looked down at her hand. Her fingers were delicate and translucent, as if a light touch could leave an impression, stirring something in his heart.
“Mr. Carrington, tomorrow is the weekend. Would you like to join me for a meal?” Leonie lowered her head slightly and extended a sincere invitation.
Alaric’s gaze inadvertently dropped to her exposed neck, his eyes deepening.
The air seemed to freeze for a few seconds. Just when Leonie thought he wouldn’t agree, Alaric’s deep, clear voice broke the silence. “Alright.”
Leonie raised her head in excitement, surprised that he had actually agreed!
However, before she could enjoy her moment of happiness, the man’s low voice echoed again. “I hope you won’t disappoint me.”
With that, he quickly walked toward the inner courtyard.
Leonie stood there, staring at his retreating back, momentarily stunned.
She understood, as an adult, she wasn’t naive—his words held more meaning than they appeared.
Thinking about their intimate moment in the carriage last night, Leonie couldn’t help but feel a flush on her face.
