Fox Meet Wolf

Alpha Cassar Salvaterre of the Viribus Pack had graced us with his presence after all. One could say he was decently attractive. Long legs, built chest, broad shoulders. His jaw looked like it had been chiselled from stone. I couldn't help but notice he had nice lips too. His face was the definition of 'manly'. 5 o'clock shadow graced his bronze skin. His hair was a dark grey colour, normal for shifters. He kind of looked like the bad boy version of super man. And his eyes, they were warm, almost shining, but blacker than midnight. Staring at me and the male who was still laying on his back beside me with his head up staring at the Alpha. Every creature in the forest seemed to have stopped breathing. Except for me, I was still laughing at the sulky Alpha who needed to learn it was just a game. I didn't care what he was, he needed to chill. Of course, I knew who he was. The moment he set foot beside the clearing when I was making my first play I could feel his alpha presence. He only said one word. "Mate." My eyes shot up in surprise as my smile widened. He wasn't grumpy because we got a touchdown. He was grumpy that I was tackled. I looked behind me at the boy who seemed to be frozen on the ground staring back at the Alpha. "Congratulations!" I cried at the new mates. Of course the Alpha wouldn't want his mate to be touching another female. He wouldn't want his mate to get hurt. Wolves were weird like that. I didn't know it was possible, but I'm pretty sure the crowd went even quieter. Why would everyone be so quiet? This was a happy occasion. They should be cheering louder for their Alpha than they did for a touchdown. Two mates had just found each other for crying out loud. Clearly the Alpha did not agree with me either, as another growl came from deep within his chest. I looked down at the Alphas mate beside me with a questioning look. Maybe he would know what was up with his mate. The large young male just kept staring at the Alpha as he just shook his head back and forth. "Not me." I slowly got to my feet, looking behind me for the Alpha's new mate. "Then who?" No one stood out to me. I looked back at the Alpha and then the young male, hoping he would ease my confusion. He did not as he said, "You." I whipped my head around again trying to find who he was talking to. When I realised no one was close enough for him to be speaking to, I looked at the Alpha again. It did kind of seem like the Alpha was staring at me. But it wasn't possible for us to be mates. Then I started to laugh. "No, it's not." I started laughing harder as the Alpha started stalking closer to us, but this time his eyes had shifted to the young male. My laugh died. The warm shine of his eyes was gone, replaced by steal and rage. His eyes seemed to be promising death. The large male beside me started shaking. His own eyes full of panic. The weight of the Alpha's presence pushing him into submission. He didn't even bother to stand. My own eyes started to widen realising that the Alpha was going to kill his pack member in front of all the families who were here to watch a football game. They came for a football game, not the gladiator games. Regularly, it wouldn't bother me, but I had a job to do. A bloodbath would definitely send me back to square one. Plus, he was a nice kid, it wasn't his fault. It was just a game. Before I could think I felt my body step in front of the quivering wolf shifter. Easily distracting Cassar Salvaterre, he stopped walking staring at me again. I saw his eyes glancing back and forth between me and his pack member. I watched him battle eternally with himself. Trying to decide between dealing with me, or the male who had tackled me. He seemed to have decided that the whimpering male was more important as he ground out, trying to step around me. "Move Mate." "One," I said holding up a number one with my fingers, following his movements. "No." The crowd watching the scene gasped at my rebellious words. He growled again, but I ignored him. Turning my fingers from a one into a two. "And two, I'm not your mate." I heard the crowd gasp again at my response. No one was supposed to speak to an Alpha like that. Especially when the alpha did not have full control of his body. I didn't care. I stopped caring about the hierarchy of families a long time ago. He looked at me as if I was stupid. "Yes, you are my mate. And yes, you will move." Cassar Salvaterre tried to step around me again, and again I mirrored his footsteps. "There, I moved." His eyes seemed to get even darker. He started to shake, he was very close to losing control. I smirked. He growled again. "Move out of my way, so I can deal with this mutt." "Okay, you need to relax." I rolled my eyes. "He attacked you." The Alpha snarled. Taking a big step towards me and the male. I mirrored him again taking a big step behind me. Hitting the guy in the leg. The Alpha caught the contact, glaring at where our feet touched. The male quickly moved his legs away. Stupid territorial wolves. "No, he tackled me. Big difference." I spoke slowly to the Alpha as if he were a child. Forcing his attention back on me. I needed to keep his attention off of the male. The best way I knew how to do that was through annoyance. Either that or start stripping, but I didn't feel like giving a bunch of creepy wolves that good of a show. "There is no difference." He was grinding his teeth. "Ummm yes there is. Considering we are playing football. Where tackling is apart of the game." "He should not have touched you." He spit out. "Okay dumbo, how do you propose we play football without any contact? You want flag football? Like a bunch of wusses?" I flung my arms up in the air in frustration. He growled again, glaring at my gesturing arms. Apparently, he didn't like sudden movements. "No." "See," I made the 'see all' gesture with my right hand. "then we need to tackle each other to play." "No. As in, he should not have touched you." He glared at the male again. His fists clenching. I threw my head back, staring at the blue sky, not a cloud in sight. Pinching the bridge of my nose to calm down. "Then what do you want us to do?" I made a lot more gestures than I needed to, hoping to once and for all distract him from the male. His eyes snapped to mine. "Don't call me dumbo." I gave a hard laugh, then asked. "Are you dense or something?" For the hundredth time, he growled at me, baring his teeth. I raised a brow questioning his sanity. "That's it," I exclaimed jumping up, a wide grin replacing my frustrated scowl. "You are dense. That's why you think I'm your mate." The only thing this guy seemed to know how to do was growl. "You are my mate." I took one large step closer to the alpha so we were only a couple of feet apart. He gave me his full undivided attention. I hoped the male behind me was smart enough to make his exit now. Saying really, really, really slowly, so both the male and the wolf could understand. "No. We. Are. Not." The alpha's shaking continued, both wolf and male fighting for dominance over the same body. The rest of the wolves who were watching the show started to walk away slowly. I just stood straighter. "Yes, we are." It was my turn to glare at the crazy alpha. "Okay, do you think you could calm down a bit bud? You're scaring the children." "Don't call me bud." He said through gritted teeth. He closed his eyes, concentrating on the wolf inside. Eventually the male won, and the shaking eased. He looked me over. "You are my mate, mate." I started laughing again, flicking my hair over my shoulder, jutting out my hip. "I don't think so." He looked around the field at all the people watching us. All the people listening to us. He did seem like he was trying to calm down. "And I will call you what I want to call you," I snapped back. "Bud." He glared at me, but he seemed to have calmed down a bit. Probably thanks to the fact that the giant male was now out of his line of sight. Out of sight, out of mind. He looked once more at the crowd that was staring with wide eyes. "Come with me." He gestured for me to follow him. Yep, he was dense. "There's no way I'm going anywhere with you." Another vicious growl ripped from his chest. I literally heard a child start to cry in the crowd. I rolled my eyes at the drama queen in front of me. He took another menacing step closer. "You will come with me. Away from these people." "Away from the only witnesses of my murder? I don't think so." I blurted out. His eyes turned blacker. "No one is going to hurt you, especially when I am around." "I'm not talking about someone else hurting me," I exclaimed, pointing a finger at him. "You're the psycho." Now he looked at me as if I were the dense one. "Why would I murder my mate?" "Because I'm not your mate. How many times do I have to tell you that?" I shouted. He let out a half growl, half frustrated sigh back at me. "You are my mate, and you will come with me." He took another step closer, lowering himself so he was my height. Looking straight into my eyes he breathed out quietly so no one could hear him. "If you don't, I will hunt down that mutt you are trying to protect. Rip out his eyes, shove them down his throat, and feed the rest of him to my hounds." So much for out of sight, out of mind. Looking right back into his eyes. I leaned even closer to the alpha in front of me. We were so close I could feel his breath fan my face. "Prove it," I whispered, daring him. He stood up straight, glaring through the crowds. He sniffed the air and made a move to step around me so he could fulfil his promise. The look of death on his face. Before he stepped past me, I shot my arm out to stop him. "Stop," I said when I realised he was planning on proving it. "I'll go with you." He gave me a smirk. "Good." "But," His smirk froze on his face. "Don't think I'm going to listen to anything you have to say," I promised. He turned around ready to leave the crowd behind. "And," I spoke up again. He turned his head to look behind him. I could see the frustration in his eyes. "I want someone else present." He turned back around to face me, confusion etched onto his face. "Why?" "So I have a witness for when you murder me." I gave him my best 'duh' face. He really was dense if he thought I would just let him murder me without a trail of evidence. He gave me a weird frustrated look and then made eye contact with someone behind me. The alpha nodded his head grumbling out a "fine" and then turned around. Just expecting me to follow him. Instead, I turned around to see who he had nodded at. The Aaron Rodgers look-alike was heading in our direction. His mouth still in a firm line of concentration. A couple of feet down from him, the icy female with the bun came out from the crowd, following Rodgers. Behind Aaron Rodgers, I saw SJ. He had taken a couple of steps in front of the crowd as if he was going to do something to help the situation, but instead, he opted for being a coward and stayed where he was. So much for a territorial alpha wolf. I tried one last time, giving him a pleading look. He just shook his head sympathetically. I rolled my eyes. Christan sat on one of the benches, glancing between me and SJ. He glared at SJ, silently asking him why he didn't do anything to help me. SJ wouldn't be able to do anything anyway. Cassar Salvaterre thought I was his mate, which meant no one would try and force us apart. Even if I wasn't his actual mate. It looked like Christan was going to attempt to come after me himself. But he wouldn't be able to do anything with a broken leg. Clearly I picked the wrong guy to sabotage. He probably wouldn't be able to do anything in full health either. Everyone heard the stories about Alpha Cassar. Which meant there would be no one to do my dirty work. It was all up to me. I groaned turning my body to face the alpha again. He was turned around, glaring at me and the two males I was making eye contact with. I rolled my eyes, glaring right back. He looked expectantly at me. Waiting for me to follow him. I was half tempted to just run in the other direction. Far away. Screw the job, it clearly wasn't going to work out anyways. As if reading my thoughts he let out a low growl. "Don't even think about running." I just jutted my hip out in response. He took a step closer to me as if a warning. I just growled right back at him. Aaron Rodgers walked up beside me, keeping a safe distance away. He mumbled to me, "Please just follow him." I glowered at him. Then I glowered at the female who tricked me. She was now standing on my other side. Then lastly I glowered at the Alpha. But I followed. With my head held high, shoulders back. Aaron Rodgers on my left, the female on the right. I walked through the bush that surrounded the clearing. Heading for my soon to be grave. It was going to be a long walk. I knew that it would be easier for me to make my escape when three wolves watched, instead of one hundred. That's why I followed. The Alpha came to walk beside me. His attention never leaving me. I growled at him when I caught him looking at me. The first second he was distracted, I was gone.
