CHAPTER 3

JULIANA

“ JULIE RUN!!” I woke up with a fright.

“ Where was I “ I wondered. All I could remember was the black wolf .

The room was painted in a white giving off somber atmosphere and I was hooked to a machine that kept beeping , a beeping noise that agitated me .

“ Was I captured? Was I back to where I barely managed to escaped from? “ The beeping noise became louder as I felt my heart beat escalate .

“ I would rather die fighting than be an experiment again” I yanked out the IV fluid from my hand.

I was panicking as I attempted to get down from the bed. I suddenly became aware of a throbbing pain in my abdomen and a wave of dizziness overcame me. I didn’t let it deter me as I was too focused on escaping or trying to .

It was at that moment a doctor entered the room and I let out high pitched scream filled with fear. All my mind could think out was the scientist and what would follow after they entered a room just like this one. The outcome was never pleasant.

“ Calm down Miss!! I am only here to help you” He kept approaching me with his hands held up in surrender.

Nothing he was saying was getting through as I tripped from the bed and backed myself into a corner making myself seem as little as possible. I continued wailing as I cried for my mother. I cried for her warm embrace , I cried for her calm and soft voice . I quickly surveyed the room and my gaze landed on a scalpel on the little table beside the bed .

With a speed of light , I quickly yanked it and contemplated either pointing it at the doctor that kept talking and trying to reach for me or to my neck to end my suffering. To finally be at peace won and I pointed the knife at my neck lightly nicking myself. I wasn’t thinking as all I wanted was an escape , “an escape from the future experiments and treatment that would surely come” I ignorantly thought and if that so desperately needed escape came in the form of death , who then was I to complain.

This act of mine immediately halted the doctor in his steps and I could see a tremendous amount of fear cloud his eyes and expression. I would later find out that he had been threatened with my safety.

“ Nurse Ruth!! Get the Alpha” The doctor shouted to whomever was outside.

“ We will make a list of the survivors, speak to each of them and get their names and packs they once belonged to. Those who cannot remember or were taken at a tender age would be given temporary housing until a solution is found and those who do not wish to return back to their packs shall immediately be given permanent shelter with food and all they would be needing to make life comfortable for them. But for now make use of that training field for the process” I commanded my beta and gamma who sat before me in a meeting that was of utmost importance.

I was itching to check up on my little mate in the pack’s infirmary but I was still the Alpha King and my attention was needed elsewhere. I had as well blocked the mind link to enable me focus. I could feel different wolves pushing against the barrier but it would have to wait until after the meeting.

The meeting room door was immediately thrown open and a warrior stumbled in.

“ Forgive me for interrupting Alpha , but a nurse requests your audience and claims it is crucial she speaks to you at oncee” He said bowing.

“ We shall continue this at a later time but for now tend to your duties” I at once adjourned the meeting . I feared something was wrong for a nurse to come looking for me and I knew it had to do with my injured mate.

The nurse was waiting outside the pack palace for me. She was a fidgeting mess and I could understand why. I had warned the whole infirmary beforehand that if anything happens to my mate , then they would face the consequences and I always keep my threats.

“ She’s conscious Alpha and she so frightened-“ I didn’t let the nurse complete her sentence and immediately rushed to see her.

The infirmary was situated not far from the pack palace so I got there in record time. The sight that laid before me once I entered her room tore me to shreds .

My mate was crouching in a corner , tears streaming down her face with a knife pressed so tightly against her neck , it had started to draw blood. The doctor stood near the door with his hands raised and trying to soothe her with talks too scared she would end it if he took a step closer.

“ Put down the knife please… Don’t hurt yourself” I slowly went to my scared mate whose eyes followed my every move

“Who was this strange man and did it appear as though it physically pained him to see me in tears” I wondered. I didn’t understand what was going on anymore but all I could be cognizant of was the voices in my head stopped wailing immediately they saw him. The fear and angst I felt was almost non-existent as he came into view.

“ Please.. Please drop the knife… I can’t bear to lose you when I just found you “ he knelt down to my level , his eyes welling up with tears.

It was as though his voice laid a command on me , a command I was too weak to resist and the knife fell from my hands.

“ Good girl” he said to me smiling as I kept looking at him in wonderment. The more I studied him the more I appreciated how well crafted he was . Surely , he was favored by the moon goddess and she took her sweet time creating him. He had the longest lashes that shielded the bluest eyes I had ever seen and thick brown hair that I knew would feel amazing to run my hands through. I was almost jealous of his dimples as they seemed to go deeper the more he smiled at me .

“ Why don’t we get you into bed… You’ve tore open your stitches “ As I looked to where his eyes were fixated and saw blood sipping through the thin shirt I wore.

All I could do was keep staring at him as he helped me to the bed . The doctor felt that was his cue as he began approaching me with some tools I always had a bad experience with .

The once quiet voices began crying and screaming for an escape as my heart pummeled in my chest.

“Stay back “ The strange man growled at the doctor with a voice that made in shiver in fright.

“ Alpha , we have to stitch her wound back up to avoid risk of further damage , we were barely able to get all the wolfsbane from her system” The doctor at this point was at his wit’s end as the strange man paid him no heed.

“So he was an Alpha… no wonder his voice held so much power and he moved with an air of authority” I reasoned.
