Dinner with Julie March 2017“It was the scent of the city,” I said suddenly. It was an abrupt realization, but it occurred to me that Rome, like most cities, has a certain aroma. It's not just the food I had been enjoying. It was the fragrance of fresh flowers at the kiosk just outside my hotel, the heady aroma of roasted coffee beans from the espresso bars that crowded every block of the city. It was the perfume of fresh pastries in the morning, sauced pastas and broiled meat during the day, the heavenly aroma of sausages grilling on the outdoor restaurant patios, the trace elements of wine that filled every dining room.
