There was silence, no movement, no rushing feet, not even a shadow, but she could feel it, the presence of someone else, they wouldn't come out, she'd force them to.
“Come out” her voice was calm, her breathing steady. The stranger didn't come out, no movement just silence, his golden eyes glistening in the night, Kessari could still see his beautiful golden eyes, it was like seeing a million sunflower in the sun.
“Come out or I'd be forced to put a bullet through your skull” for a moment the silence remained, there was no movement. Everything was still, and for a split second it seemed as though time had stopped , then. slowly he came out from behind the flowers.
His golden eyes still fixed on the rifle in Kessari's hand as he moved towards her, his silver white hair was drenched in something that looked like blood if it was ash.
Claws replaced his fingers, one claw on his side soaked in blood, golden blood not ash like the other blood he was drenched in. As he walked into the light and towards Kessari, the light shone on something else in his other claw, a bag, drenched in ash blood but sealed tight and inside the sealed bag, see could see flashes of gold just like the colour of the blood oozing from his side, he held unto it firmly, like it was some sort of treasure. His eyes still locked on Kessari.
Kessari almost gasped, she couldn't believe her eyes. What creature stood before her? not human but not animal either, almost like a perfect symphony of those two.
It was beautiful and frightening at the same time. Kessari stayed in place not moving, staring straight at the creature that stood before her, he did the same too, eyes fixed, never wavering, not even for a split second. Kessari's eyes moved to his side, where his claws were preventing his blood from oozing out, still he just stood there, no movement, no sounds.
He looked seriously injured, like he had just been in a war, and from the blood his clothes and body had been drenched in it was easy to tell who had won the war despite how he looked.
She continued to examine every inch of him, rifle still in place, her eyes were getting used to whatever creature she was looking at but her mind was struggling to comprehend everything that was going on.
She glanced over at his other paw, claws out holding tightly to the sealed bag drenched in ash blood, from where she stood she could see the light shimmer of gold that was sealed in the bag, she took a step closer, eyes still fixed on the bag, but he held even more firmly to it, letting out a deep growl.
Whatever he was holding in that bag, he was willing to give his life for it. Kessari's glanced moved back to his golden eyes, staring in silence
“Who………what are you? And what do you want here” her hands were steady on the rifle, still aimed at him, one wrong move and she'd pull the trigger leaving him in a puddle of blood on the ground.
Kessari's question went unanswered, he just kept standing there, one claw on his side, the other holding firmly to the ash blood drenched bag. Suddenly he moved, slowly, gently into the light, almost like a sign of trust. As he stepped into the light, Kessari stepped back, a gasp escaping her lips ,she had a clear look at him now, he was mesmerising, he towered above her, his silver white hair glistening as the light touched it. In the light she could see his veins, gold blood running through it against his pale skin, it almost looked transparent.
“What are you? And what do you want? “ she said again, this time more firmly than the first. She took one step closer, into the light, her arms were getting tired from aiming for too long.
Normally aiming a rifle at a stranger for long hours wouldn't be a problem for her seeing that she fought wars for a living, but her day had been long, and her night even longer, and what seemed to be a few minutes felt like many hours, her body was exhausted, her mind even more so. If he didn't speak soon, he'd leave with a bullet to his heart not out of fear but pure exhaustion.
Her eyes still fixed on his, she noticed a change in his gaze, his eyes were no longer just fixed on hers or the rifle, but he was watching her, examining her, she could feel his curiosity and confusion as he continued to examine her.
“Who are You?” He finally said, his voice was calm but Kessari could sense the curiosity that laced his words, he took a step forward, this time his eyes were fixed on hers.
Kessari steadied her rifle and took a step back. He took another step forward, eyes still locked on hers intensely, it was as though he was searching for something in her eyes.
“Who are you? And who do you belong to?” He said once again, eyes still fixed on Kessari.
“I belong to no one but myself, and you don't get to invade someone else's property and ask them questions, you are on my property, I ask the questions, not you. You take one more step towards me and I'll put a hole through your heart I swear it“ he didn't move, a slight smile danced on his lips, his eyes lit up a bit then he took two steps back, eyes still fixed on her.
“Do you have a name?”
“Rai”
“Your name is Rai???, why am I not
surprised”
“No, that's not my name”
“You literally just said that was your name”
“It is my name” he said, this time no smile on his lips, his face looked stern, but there was a kindness to it, his eyes looked kind.
Kessari examined him thoroughly and properly. She may not know what creature stood before her but she knew what he was because she was one too. His stance, his posture, the kindness in his eyes despite the frown and stern look on his face, how his claws were placed by his side, ready for attack, how he held firmly to the bag in his other hand.
“You're a soldier aren't you?”
“ I am a warrior, soldiers are for humans” he examined Kessari with his eyes, a little smile danced on the corner of his lips
“ You're a soldier, I can tell”
“How? What gave it away?”
“Your stance, and the way you hold your weapon, your eyes too, they're fierce but kind”
“You're observant”
“Every warrior is”
There was silence, they just stared at each other quietly, observing each other
“What do you want here? Who are you??”
“Tell me who you belong to, then I'll tell you who I am and what I want”
“ I don't belong to anyone but myself”
“Humans are known for their lies”
“ Well I am not lying, I belong to no one, now answer my questions”
“You can only ask me five questions, I'll only answer five questions, no more than that”
Kessari scoffed and steadied her rifle in her arm.
“That's bullshit, I'll ask as many questions as I want and you're going to answer them all since you're on my territory, my home you do as i say”
“Go ahead, ask as many questions as you want, you are at liberty to, but i give you my word, I'd only answer five of the five million questions you have, you humans believe in free will right? Therefore I am at liberty and I have the right to choose how many questions I want to answer despite your opinion of my decision “ he gave a little smile as he finished his sentence.
Kessari squinted her eyes a little and gave a little laugh that sounded like a scoff. She didn't agree to it but he was right, he was at liberty to choose how many questions he answered about his personal life
“Fine, who are you?”
“I am Raikaelyn of the Borealis clan, Second in command for the shadow of light warriors and Gold veins battalion, brother in arms and blood to reigning Alpha Kaelis Borealis”
“Wow, fancy, I almost feel compelled to bow and show my courtesy “ she said sarcastically, almost like she was mocking him but not quite so. He noticed the sarcasm in her tone, though not pleased with it, he admired how unimpressed she was by his introduction.
“ Funny, but I doubt you'd be able to do that given how stiff your waist is, but don't worry it's the thought that counts”
Kessari looked a little taken aback by his answer. This was the first time a man had been just as sassy and sharp-mouthed as she was. She didn't like it a lot, but she was impressed by how quick the reply came in.
“What's in the bag?” he glanced over to the translucent bag he held and back at her
“ A lifeline for my clan and people”
“How important is it to your clan?”
“ Very important”
“Your answers are not clarifying enough “
“Well then it's a good thing I never promised clarity, I promised answers, never said they'd provide clarity. Kessari let out a breath she was holding in. She take one more look at him, the way he stood there unbuttered by all this made her blood boil a little. One thing was clear, this night was the longest night of her life and her only prayer was for it to end, preferably soon.
