Chapter 16- the breakfast date

1724 Words
Maia's POV She sat on her bed, unable to sleep. So many things had happened in so little time. She was still hurt that Lilian had left without saying goodbye...she was certain she'd be able to enjoy her sister's company tonight. She had seemed so excited about spending the night. "Michael had probably asked her to go home." sighed Maia. She tossed and turned the rest of the night and before she could drive herself insane, she got up. She had already cleaned the mess Ash had left behind. If that even is his name. She sat on her couch, willing herself to refresh her exhausted body and mind again. She started to hum, feeling her muscles relax at the sudden warmth. The buzzing city outside was coming to life once again as the sun started to rise. Her loft would be filled with sunlight in a few minutes. Her floor to ceiling windows were bare, having had pulled the curtains back when Ash disappeared.  She laughed at the thought of Ash watching over her in a fairy godmother dress. She knew what they had spoken was serious. What was more serious is what he had claimed she was, the child of a prince of hell. He hadnt said which one. He had told her that all, with due time, would come to light. She wasnt afraid, she felt as if he was wrong. Her abilities had never felt ominous to her, they brought her peace. She shook her worries aside. She wouldnt allow for his words to affect her much more than they already had! She jumped in a quick shower.  Maia wondered if Daniel was already up. He had been so happy to be coming over today, she would make sure to surprise him when he arrived. Once done with her shower, she rummaged through her closet. She settled on some shorts and t-shirt, she certainly couldnt make breakfast in a tight dress. Not that Daniel would mind, she laughed. As she tied her shoes and fixed her low ankle socks, she thought about Lilian. She would have to visit her soon. Maia went into her bathroom and combed her wet hair. Maybe I should surprise her tomorrow? She wondered if Lilian would mind her coming over to cook for her. "Maybe...but either way in going to see if she felt better after i helped." said Maia with motherly conviction. After she made sure to clean her home and leave it spotless, she headed into the kitchen. Her supplies were scarce. Only a carton of milk was left after last night's food fight she had missed. Maia began to focus on what she'd need for breakfast. Bacon. Eggs. Coffee. Pancake mix. Syrup. Chocalate chips. Blueberries.  She opened her eyes, her mind still focusing on what she would need. She slowly raised her hands over her kitchen counter, holding them steady at the center. When she stretched her arms out her ingredients appeared. She loved being able to summon her groceries from the nearest super market. Of course, shed always exchange the supplies with the appropriate amount of money...on the days she was in a chipper mood. She smiled as she collected her items and got to work. Maia was hungry enough to eat a family sized amount of food with no regrets. She hoped her date would like the food she would prepare. She made sure to summon some more food to fill her fridge and pantry. No need to risk her date seeing an empty home when she had enough time to spare. She looked at her clock and panicked, 7:55. Just as her pancake mixes were ready, she got a text from Daniel. Hey, I'm outside the gallery... She quickly texted him how to get to her back door entrance that led to her fifth room, where her loft entrance was. She appeared at the door and opened it, sticking her head outside in search of him. Right on beat, he appeared from around the galleries corner. His smile evident even from a distance. He jogged to the door, catching her in a sideways hug. "Goodmorning beautiful!" said Daniel. "Morning." she smiled back in their side hug. They'd only known each other a night and already they were so comfortable with one another... Maia wondered if this was due to her being a demon. She shook her head, forcing the thought out of her head. Daniel walked in after her, locking the door as he closed it. Maia turned to the stairs, grabbing his hand behind her, pulling him to follow. "No gallery today?" asked Daniel, surprised her exit was secluded from the gallery. "Nope. This entrance is right behind the door where you found me last night." said Maia as she reached the last step. She walked into her loft and turned to look at Daniel, finding him in awe of her home. "Mi casa es tu casa." said Maia in fluent Spanish. His smile made her heart flutter, causing her to smile back slightly. "You're home is beautiful." said Daniel, making sure to make her heart flutter at every word. Maia could feel her cheeks were a very bright red. "Thank you...would you like some breakfast?" said Maia, trying her best to regain her compusure. He smiled, quickly walking towards her kitchen and grabbing her apron from the hook. Daniel looked around, firmly grabbing the pancake mix and beginning to pour some onto her already set frying pan. Before Maia could protest, he turned to her and handed her the already cooked bacon motioning for her to sit on the other side of her kitchen island. She smiled, god he was so sexy. He continued to pour three other pancakes into the pan. She walked over to where her high chairs were sided on, pulling one back wide enough to sit. She sat back and enjoyed her view. He quickly went through her cupboards finding plates for when the pancakes were done. "So...kind of late to ask this, but are you single?" asked Maia. She took a piece of bacon and chewed it slowly, trying her best not to sound too inquisitive. The night before they'd spoken about alot of various subjects, but none of them were about each other's love lives. He tensed, but only slightly. Maia could tell the air around him shifting. Crap. "I'm newly single." He finally said. He seemed to be overly concentrated on flipping the pancakes. Newly single? What the heck does that mean? She angrily bit another piece off her bacon, not wanting to show his answer had affected her at all. Why is this bothering me so much? She could feel her anger bubbling up slightly. No. Not anger. Jealousy? Maia sighed. I have no right to feel jealous. She half forced herself to look away. "Thats cool." she managed to say after a few minutes of silence. ... Daniel's POV He hadnt expected the question to be asked, his mate was curious. He knew he couldnt lie to her, but he didnt want to give her too much detail either. "I'm newly single." He had finally managed to say. The suspense was killing him. His mate had gone extremely quiet, he could only hear her soft chewing behind him. But he could feel her anger. Way to go dumbass, Fenrir half spat at him. Im not about to lie to her, I'd rather face it right now than have to deal with it later. He defended. Fenrir and him hardly ever disagreed, but they hadnt discussed this. Fenrir never liked the idea of Daniel giving up to social pressure and dating anyone other than his mate. He would always let himself be heard on anything that would concern their mate. "That's cool." said Maia. Daniel knew he had to do something to help his mate feel comfortable again. He turned to the eggs, cracking them into another pan and beginning to cook them at a high flame. He couldnt feel his mate's eyes on him anymore. He quickly turned the already cooked pancakes onto a plate he found in her cupboards. He turned to face his mate. She was staring intently at her living room, as if a tree would magically spring in the middle of it. He breathed in, wanting to steady himself before he could speak. "It wasn't something that would ever go anywhere. We parted ways knowing we weren't meant for one another." said Daniel. He hoped the truth would be evident in his voice, but he knew he was nervous.  I dont want to lose her now that I've found her. Fenrir stayed quiet, not wanting to miss their mate's response. She relaxed slightly.  She quickly got another piece of bacon and chewed on it, trying her best not to show the smile that had emerged. Daniel could feel his own tension leaving him. Fenrir relaxed too, his presence happy as he looked into his mate's eyes. He put the pancakes in the middle of the marble countertop, turning to grab the finished scrambled eggs as well. Grabbing two plates and the pan of eggs, he turned to his mate. Only to find her digging through her fridge for something. She smiled brightly as she got her watermelon juice carton and two glasses from another cupboard. Daniel quickly got a high chair and sat opposite to her, wanting to see his mate as much as possible. They both served themselves, hunger showing on both their faces. Daniel smiled, his mate was comfortable again. Not caring to eat in front of him and enjoying her food. Maia ate her pancakes, eggs and bacon platter happily. She made light conversation about what types of movies she liked and her favorite music artists. Daniel enjoyed his breakfast but most of all the company. His mate had preparred all the food with such care that it warmed his heart just to think about it. Neither of them seemed to notice the time flying by, even long after they had finished their breakfast. Daniel had felt his phone vibrate and reluctantly looked down at it while Maia had excused herself to go feed her cat. Need to talk to you. Melissa's text read. Fenrir almost jumped out of Daniel's head he was so angry. How dare she try to communicate with us after what she said last night, roared Fenrir. Before Daniel had a chance to calm him down, he got another text. Your parents are at the villa. This one was from Xander. This wasnt something good, his parent's never came to his villa. Especially not since he'd taken over as Alpha. If that b***h is provoking this I'll rip her to pieces, said Fenrir. Daniel could feel his wolf coming to the same conviction he was now becoming aware of. His Luna's position was being challeneged by Melissa. Daniel could not allow that to happen. He also couldn't come clean to his Luna just yet, they had just met. While he was stuck in his thoughts, Daniel could hear his mate coming back to her chair. He looked at her and smilled as she scooted carefully into her high chair. "Would you like to see my house?" Asked Daniel. ...
