The office was silent. Grace stood there holding the baby carefully against her chest, waiting for me to say something. I looked away first. Then gestured toward the chair in front of my desk. “Sit.” Grace hesitated briefly before lowering herself into the chair slowly. The baby stirred slightly in her arms and she immediately patted the child’s back gently. I folded my hands together on the desk. “So what do you want from me?” Grace swallowed. Her eyes looked nervous meeting mine. “Is there… is there any way you could talk to your brother?” Her fingers tightened around the baby blanket before she continued quietly, “Please.
