Hunters POV:
Alyson sits in my chair and puts her feet up on my desk. “So, I have moved all my people in. All that escaped with me, that is They seem to like it here.”
I shove her feet down and pick up some of the papers she crumbled. “I’m glad.” I say and toss the papers to the side.
Alyson stands up and walks over to the bookshelf. “Now that everyone is healed and you have a ton of people being sent out of the pack, it seems like your numbers are quite scarce.”
“I’m well aware.” I pinch the bridge of my nose.
I haven’t slept in about a week. The mess of my Alpha ceremony and taking over this pack has taken its toll. Not to mention I have had to cover up the president’s death. There have been reporters, journalists, politicians, police, FBI, and even CIA personnel constantly questioning what happened. As far as they know, President John Wilson was mauled by a bear on one of his hunting trips. Justin and I took his body out into the woods and tracked a bear down to make the story more realistic. His body was found by local hikers and his death has officially been ruled an accident. We have his funeral later today where Melissa, Victoria, and Emily will be put in the face of America as his surviving family. Former Luna Kate is currently nowhere to be found, as I suspect she ran off with Felki with the ones that escaped.
“Alfred!” I boom in my Alpha voice way louder than I intended.
Al bursts through the door. “Yes, Alpha?” He looks at me confused and worried.
“Sorry, still trying to get a handle on this whole Alpha voice thing.” I fumble out before clearing my throat. “I need you to go get Emily and tell them it’s time to get ready to leave. They are expecting the girls and Kate to stay at the White House overnight. Pick a few other guards to come along.”
“Yes, Alpha. I will get right on that.” Al bows his head and walks out of the room.
Alyson looks over at me with a slight smirk on her face.
“What?” I look at her annoyed.
“Oh, nothing.” She raises her eyebrows and shakes her head. “Better get all packed up to go to the White House.”
I shake my head and wave my finger at her. “Oh, no no no no no. You’re staying here.”
She looks at me almost offended. “Oh yes I am! You guys are not leaving here without protection.”
“And you are our protection?” I scuff and turn to walk away.
“Yeah. I am. I’m an original, I’m your best bet against my mother and her whole army.” She follows me into the hallway and down the stairs.
“I highly doubt that your mother will try anything while we are on such a big stage.” I walk as if I don’t really care that she is inches from my heels.
“Then you clearly need me. My mother will do anything if it means getting the attention of big names. She wasn’t really in charge of the last attack so she is looking to be one step ahead.” Alyson rambles on.
I stop in front of my room and face her. “If it turns out that there is an attack on us, we are well prepared to defend. We will have guards, and besides. Emily will be there.” I tilt my head and swallow.
She crosses her arms and raises her eyebrow at me. “That’s not enough.”
I press my lips into a line and let out a long breath I didn’t realize I was holding. “I will talk it over with Justin and the others. Until then, pack for three days.”
Her intimidating face turns happy as she turns away and starts to skip.
“That’s not a yes to you coming. It’s a maybe.” I call out after her. She just continues to skip along down the hallway. “Brilliant.” I roll my eyes and open my door.
Emily stands in the middle of the room with a towel in her hands. She looks less than amused. “Oh hey, I was just about to hop in the shower and get cleaned up before packing.”
“Well, I could join you?” I smile and slowly walk over to her.
“Hmmm. Tempting, but I’ll pass.” She turns and walks towards the bathroom.
I bite my lip as I watch her walk into the bathroom. As the door closes behind her, I make my way into the closet to grab a couple things. Everything I need for the weekend is already packed in my suitcase and in the car. Emily insisted that she pack her own bag, and at this point, I let her do what she wants.
I quickly change into a suit, carrying the suit jacket over my shoulder with one hand and my shoes in the other. When I walk back into the main room, Emily makes her way out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel.
“I see we are wearing formal just to go to the White House?” She says in a sassy tone.
I look down at my outfit and bounce on the balls of my feet. “Well, it is the White House. I figured I better look good.”
She smiles and walks over to me. “Well, you look amazing.” She wraps her moist arms around my neck and stands up on her tippy toes.
I take a deep breath and put my hands on her waist. “Mm, well you look pretty dashing yourself. Why don’t you just wear this?”
She giggles and kisses me. “Maybe I will.” She says as she pulls away, biting her lower lip.
A growl comes from the doorway. “Yeah, let’s not and pick back up with this outfit when we get back from the funeral.” Justin looks Emily up and down with a smirk on his face. He walks in and closes the door behind him.
Emily grabs the towel and looks around her to make sure she was covered up the whole time. “Justin!” She shouts and grabs one of my shoes to throw at him.
He laughs and catches the shoe. “Hey, I made sure no one was looking at you!” He walks over to us. “Nice suit. Have one for me?”
“Don’t you have any?” I ask, taking my shoe back.
“Did. Before I bulked up. I’ve got nothing that fits now.” He reaches over and grabs a mini basketball that was on the floor. He pulls it up like he’s about to shoot it but stops just when his muscles are flexed. “Now I’m just too big and can’t fit in any of ‘em.”
Emily snatches the ball and throws it right at his gut. “Then go get one at the tailor downstairs.” She turns and goes into her closet where she shuts the door.
She is still really shy about all of this stuff. She lives in my room, and currently so does Justin. I had an extra closet built for her so she could change and not feel pressure to be out here with us. I don’t ever want her to feel pressured into anything, and neither does Justin.
“So, about that suit.” Justin looks at me as he picks the ball back up off the floor.
“Yeah, yeah. Go see if they fit.” I say and tighten my shoe laces.
Before long, Emily comes out in a stunning blue sundress and converse. Her hair is still a little wet, but she lets it hang down around her shoulders. She pulls a small suitcase behind her and sets it out on the bed. Justin walks out with his suitcase and in one of my suits, but without the jacket.
“Better grab my hair things from the bathroom.” Justin sets his suitcase up and walks into the bathroom. He comes out with a hairdryer, hair gel, some sort of powder, a hairbrush, comb, and a round brush.
“Got it all?” Emily chuckles.
He gives her a mocking eye roll before shoving all his things in his bag. There is a knock at the door.
“Alpha, the car is waiting for you.” Al says as he grabs one of the bags from my hands.
“Okay. Are Vicky and Melissa all packed?” I ask as more people come into my room to grab the rest of our bags.
“Yes sir. They are already in their car and waiting to leave.”
“And Alyson?” I add.
“Waiting at the front door for your approval.” He nods.
I bow my head in appreciation and turn to Emily. She looks as though she might break down at any moment.
I reach out and take her hand in mine. “Hey, I’ll be right there with you the whole time.”
“Me too.” Justin grabs her other hand.
She gives us a half smile before taking a deep breath. “We better get going.”
I nod my head and lead the way down to the car. We pass Alyson on the way, and I let out a sigh.
“Well?” Alyson bobs her head around and looks at Justin.
I turn to Emily and gesture to Alyson. “Emily, do you think we need Alyson to come with us?”
“The more the merrier I guess.” She says in a monotone voice.
“Alright, well. Alyson. You’re riding with the others. They need someone with them.” I say and point to the other car with Vicki and Melissa in it.
She rolls her eyes. “Fine.”
We all get into our respective cars and start towards the White House.
