CHAPTER 5

KAYDEN “Noooooo wayyyyy man. She actually sent it?” Carter, my friend, said, staring at Anderson with disbelief. “Yep. Trust me, I didn’t think she would either,” Anderson replied with his eyes locked on his phone. “Here,” he tossed the phone to Carter. “Not just her face, but damn... nudes? Carter muttered, his eyebrows shooting up. “You seeing this, Kayden? Even the most aloof girl will crumble just to be 10 feet from you. It’s crazy,” Carter continued, his eyes never leaving the phone screen. I scoffed. “Yeah, right.” “Kimberly, was it? I heard she is the recruiter for a female club. What was it again? Anderson asked, collecting his phone from him. “I think it’s called 'celibate only, ' or something like that,” Carter responded, trying to hold back his laughter. “I can tell you for a fact that more than half of the girls in that club have at least had one night stand,” Anderson states, pouring himself a small glass of vodka. “How can you be so sure? Or did you have one-night stands with them? I asked with a smirk “Well… I did with 3 of them at once,” he admitted casually Carter’s eyes widened, his hands flying to his mouth in mock shock. This wasn’t entirely surprising to me, as I suspected as much. “Holllllyyyyy shittt! So you are into that stuff, huh?” Carter asks with genuine amusement in his eyes “Yeah, whatever,” Anderson shrugged, and Carter snickered, earning a glare from him. “Anyways, Gordon is having his house party tonight,” Carter announced, lounging on the couch. “He invited us as special guests. Said something about “making him look good”. “That ungrateful bastard,” Anderson barked.” f*****g loser.” “Heyyy, calm down, man. I thought you both were good.” “Not in the right sense but…” Anderson sighs, “ he is just bad news. That’s all I can say.” “Who are you going with, Kay?” Carter asks, taking a slow sip of the cold drink “Doubt I will go,” I deadpanned, focused on a text on my phone. “Heyyyy, don’t be like that, man. You know for a damn fact you are the star of every party,” Carter said, giving me a lazy smile. I run a hand through my hair, already feeling the stress of the day setting in. “Or”…. I hear Anderson begin to speak. “Is it because of that chick you were with today?” For some reason, I felt my body stiffen, and I sit up, locking eyes with him. “Whoa, Kay, no need to go Alpha mode now. I mean, everyone on campus practically saw you both,” Carter added, raising his hands in mock surrender. “Right… I forgot how news spreads really fast around here,” I spat, pouring a drink and allowing the cold liquid to calm my nerves. Why am I reacting to her like this? “Heard she’s the top student at her department or something like that,” Carter blurted. Clearly, already feeling the alcohol “That’s enough,” I voiced. Anderson gives me a knowing look. “That’s not like you, Kay,” he raises his brows, “what’s up with her?” I set my glass down. “I think we should go to that party.” “Yessss!” Carter hollered, jumping up with his glass in hand. Anderson smirks at me, still giving me that knowing look. We arrive at Gordon’s sometime after 11 pm. As usual, the party is in full swing. A few of my buddies gather around to greet me. “What’s up, man?” Mateo cheered, offering me a handshake as I stepped through the door. “All good,” I replied. He had a lady tucked under his arm who practically eye f****d me while trying to give me a sexy smirk. It looked disgusting. “You still up for that deal I told you last week? My guys are all pumped up for it,” he said with a grin I nodded, “definitely. Will keep you updated,” I said, opening the main door in one swing to the building. The heat inside was insane. The smell of sweat mixed with perfume and alcohol filled the air. I could hardly tell which was which. Carter strolled towards me, his left hand already locked on the waist of a blonde woman as he closed the distance between us. “Over there,” he shouted over the loud music, pointing to a small area ahead that looked like a vip seat. I sat down, taking in the house. I’ve never been one to attend many parties, but this one clearly stood out. The clothes the ladies wore did little to cover their bodies. I noticed stares from every corner around me. By now, Carter and the blonde lady were basically eating each other’s faces. I felt a soft touch on my neck as a lady with dark hair, whom I didn’t recognize, sat on my lap and began to move her hips, earning a few gasps from some onlookers I stared at her, about to tell her off, when I realized she was one hell of a dancer. She didn’t touch my body as other ladies would, but only her waist did the talking, and I won’t lie, I got a hard on in minutes. “Get out!” A voice ordered from behind me. I knew who it was without even turning back. The black-haired scurried away and disappeared into the crowd. “It’s quite disappointing, don’t you think?” I heard Amy whisper in my ear. She sits on my lap, holding a wine glass filled with a brown liquid in her left hand. “Here,” she tries to press the cold glass to my lips, but I turn the other way. “Not interested?” She smirks with a hint of amusement. “What do you want, Amy?” I ask “Always straight to the point when it comes to you. No wonder you are… different from others,” she purred, “I have something you will be interested in.” “Let me guess, you can’t tell me here,” I replied, looking back at the crowd She gave a slow smile, “Let’s meet at the usual spot tomorrow. I promise you, this will drive you nuts.” I nodded, leaning back on the chair as she glided away to the left side of the room. Drive me nuts? Now I can hardly wait. “Noooo shittt!” Carter huffed suddenly, pointing at something ahead. “Tell me it’s my drunk ass taking or is Miss Perfect actually here right now?” “f**k you, Carter!” The blonde lady next to him screeched, probably offended by his lack of attention. She stormed off with Carter chasing after her, laughing. I turned my attention back to the crowd and noticed someone with a covered face trying desperately to move among the horde. The movement of this person felt strangely familiar, and I found myself standing up and ducking towards the staircase that led to the first floor. Call it curiosity or whatever, but I just wanted to know. The door to the left after the stairwell swung open with a force enough to knock someone out. Right at the front of the door is this familiar person who loses her footing and stumbles back, nearly hitting the iron railing behind. I rush forward, sliding my left arm to her back, while at the same time, the jacket used to cover her face comes off, revealing the exact face I had in mind all this time. Ariella Monroe “Didn’t see you as one to come to such places.”
