ARIELLA
“Can’t you knock!?” Rory snapped at me as she scrambled to cover herself with the white duvet.
I had just entered my dorm to get some sleep. My head was pounding after meeting with Kayden at the cafe.
Only to meet a naked man beneath a naked Rory, my roommate.
“Rory, I did knock, but no one responded, so I fe…”
“You could have f*****g knocked louder!” She sneered, and a vein on her forehead bulged out.
“f*****g hell…” I heard the man curse under his breath and stood up, not even bothering to cover himself.
I turned my gaze elsewhere, not wanting to see anything that would hunt me for the rest of my life.
I noticed from my peripheral vision how he lazily picked up his clothes that lay scattered on the floor and wore them.
Rory let out a frustrated sigh. “Where are you going, Jim?”
The guy, Jim, turned over to Rory and snickered.
“You want us to f**k while she is here?” Then he paused for a moment, “or better still, we could have a threesome,” he gave a crooked smile that made me almost throw up.
“Whatever, I will meet you in class tomorrow, “ Rory responded as Jim walked out of the room.
I breathed out the air I didn’t know I was holding and kept my bag on the chair.
Rory entered the bathroom without another word and slammed the door shut.
Good. I also didn’t want to talk about what just happened.
I lay on my bed with my clothes still on, allowing sleep to take over my body.
************
I woke up to the loud sound of my phone alarm just at the top of my table. I scoot over to turn it off and lie back on my bed facing the ceiling.
It was dark outside with the bathroom door wide open. Rory must have gone out, considering how quiet the room was.
She always left that bathroom door open, no matter how much I corrected her on this.
I picked up my phone to check my reading schedule for the night when I saw a message at the top of the phone screen.
It was from a number I didn’t recognize, so I reluctantly opened it
Seems you got back to your dorm safe. See you tomorrow.
The text reads
I sat up immediately, reading and rereading it over and over. It wasn’t hard to guess who sent it.
He even has my number when I don’t remember giving it to him. Ugh.
What is this guy really up to?
Should I respond? It would be rude to just leave it like that.
Hello. Yes, I got home safe, thank you.
I was about to click on the send button when I had a second thought and just deleted the message altogether.
I haven’t decided on it yet
The thoughts of his final words to me fill my mind. I found myself remembering his hot breath on my face and how insanely close he was to me.
Jeeezzz Ariella. I nearly face-palmed myself.
Since when did you think of a guy more than your studies? I thought and let out a dry laugh.
“Time for some studying,” I announced to the empty room and placed some textbooks on my table.
It was almost past midnight when my phone began to buzz beside me. I picked it up slowly trying to decipher who was calling me at this hour.
My mind unconsciously drifted to Kayden. Maybe he was pissed that I didn’t reply his text.
I pinched the bridge of my nose, trying to calm myself down.
“H..hel…”
“Yo, is this Ariella?” A man spoke. His voice sounded cracked like had been shouting all day.
“Y…yess,” I responded as panic began to rise in my chest. Who is this guy? And why does he sound…
“Rory’s here. Come pick her up, Asap at Gordon’s,” and with that, he hung up.
I stared at my phone for a while. Is this supposed to be some truth or dare joke?
It’s not the first time Rory is out this late, so why does she need someone now to pick her up?
I exhaled sharply, leaning back on my chair and holding my head. What do I do? For all I know, this could be a prank or even a bad scheme.
I dialed the number again, and it picked up on the second ring.
“C..can I please hear Rory’s voice to be sure it’s really her?”
I heard him groan in annoyance before I heard her voice,” Hey.. I need some more of that white stuff you gave me before?”
“Yo!” I heard the man speak again, “You coming or what? If you aren’t here in 5, I am dropping her wasted ass.”
“N.. No, please don’t. I am on my…”
The call clicked off.
Getting a ride at this time of the night was always difficult. Worse still is that it had to take me outside school grounds, as that is where this “Gordon’s” is, thanks to the driver who told me.
As we rounded a corner, I noticed a huge house with bright lights in front, with different cars packed at the gate. People were trooping in and out, with some being held by others.
A few others were smoking on the side of the entrance while forming small groups.
I watched a guy vomit on the lady holding him up as they walked, earning curses from her.
“This is Gordon’s,” I hear the elderly driver say.
I stared at him with wide eyes, “Here?”
“Yes,” he said with a tired voice already wanting to slam his gas and get out of here.
“O..okay,” I mumbled
This is Gordon’s? How did Rory end up in a place like this?
As I got out of the car, I quickly retrieved my phone, calling the number from earlier.
Dialed once, twice, thrice. No response.
Great.
Now I am stuck with the hard choice of trying to find her in this sea of people. I could have just turned back and left her to her own devices, but… she was my roommate.
I entered the building, and the smell that hit my nose was nauseating.
I quickly covered half of my face with my jacket as I weaved my way through the crowd.
Loud music came from everywhere, even when there were no visible speakers. Hot, sweaty bodies collided with mine as I moved through the tight spaces.
I looked up and saw someone who looked like Rory enter a room upstairs, and I followed her.
Just as I was about to hold the door handle, the door suddenly swung open, hitting my face in the process, and I lost my footing, stumbling back.
Behind me was the iron railing, and I prepared myself for the pain that would hit my back by squeezing my eyes shut.
But instead of the iron railing, I felt an arm, a strong arm, hold me in place as I got a grip of my footing.
“Didn’t see you as one to come to such places,” I heard a deep familiar voice say
I opened my eyes and saw the one person I dreaded meeting again.
Kayden Dom
