Chapter 41 - Twists and Turns

2329 Words
Stepping into the darkened room, Roberto led Matteo across the floor while Dante closed the door softly behind them. They didn’t stop walking until they could clearly see Alexa laying still on the bed with her eyes closed and obvious bruising covering her entire neck. “Holy s**t!” Matteo cursed in astonishment at the sight. “How is she doing?” Roberto queried, giving Dante a side glance. “The doctor says we won’t know much until she wakes up.” Dante replied solemnly, coming across to sit down on one of the large velvet couches. “I’m so sorry, Dante…” Matteo shook his head, frowning at the sight of such an angelic woman in such a bad way. “This isn’t fair.” “Yeah, no shit.” Dante mused from his seat as he reached forward and grasped at his scotch on the rocks, then leaning back and taking a swig of the delicious drink. “What is it that you wanted to tell me?” Roberto came over and sat down opposite his older brother, leaning forward to rest his arms on the top of his knees as he lifted his eyes to meet those of the Reaper. Matteo did the same soon after, but Roberto didn’t wait for him before he began to explain. “We’re being betrayed, Dante. By one of our own.” Roberto announced. Dante rolled his eyes, as if he found this information pointless. “I already know.” he announced, shocking Roberto at his admission. “You know?” Roberto reiterated in confusion. Dante nodded his head. “It was recently brought to my attention. One of our own is responsible for assisting the hitman to locate Alexa the night she was attacked. Among other things...” Roberto looked to Matteo in question. “Do you have any idea who it is?” Matteo questioned. Dante looked at his glass as he swirled it around in his hand while answering. “Not yet… but I will.” Once again, Roberto and Matteo shared a quick glance before they both turned to face Dante again. It was time to break the news to him about their treacherous father and his schemes to overthrow their reign. “We know who it is.” Roberto made the announcement with hesitance. Suddenly, he found it quite difficult to lift his gaze upwards, to meet Dante’s blazing eyes. “What?” Dante sat forward in his seat, having been pulled to attention by what his brother was admitting to him. “Who?” “It’s our father, Dante.” Matteo chose to be the one to break the unfortunate news. But Dante immediately began chuckling at such a ridiculous idea. He shook his head from side to side, frowning at Matteo. “Trust you to come up with something as ridiculous as this, Matteo.” Dante announced. “I warn you, little brother, I am in no mood to play right now-” Roberto quickly cut in, desperate to convince Dante of what they now knew. “-Damn it Dante, he’s telling you the truth! Our father has betrayed us, he’s working with the De Luca’s. The bastard even planned to overthrow your rule as Don. He was gonna take both you and I out and replace you with Matteo as head of the family…” “It’s true. He told me everything this evening. He plans to hit you here at the Castello tomorrow evening.” Matteo confirmed. Dante’s eyes narrowed now as he turned his attention from Roberto back to Matteo. For the first time, he began to contemplate whether or not this information was true. Even if it was true, there was still one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb to him and he decided to question his brother about it. “Even if I were to believe such a foolish suggestion, Roberto, why on Earth would Matteo turn down such an incredible offer? Hmmm?” Dante queried, suddenly standing up from his chair. “Matteo has always wanted to become Don of our family, ever since we were young boys playing together in the halls of this very castle…” Dante turned his attention to his younger brother now, glaring daggers down at him. “I know you haven’t grown a conscious overnight, so why the sudden change of heart, Matteo? Tell me what you’re really up to.” Realising that Dante’s walls were perhaps built far too high for him to break through, Matteo lowered his head and let out an auditable sigh before he spoke. “You’re right. I have always wanted to be the capo. I resented you for years because of it. And… made some choices I now regret in the process…” He looked down again, shaking his head slowly from side to side. “I’ve always had a good relationship with our father. We catch up over drinks, go out fishing together and I’ve confided in him whenever I’ve felt lost or alone...” Matteo paused, finding the courage to admit the next part of what he had to say. “But tonight, when he told me his plans were to have the two of you killed, I couldn’t go through with it. I finally saw the man for what he was, on the inside… a heartless monster.” Dante looked his brother up and down, as if deciding whether or not to believe a single word that escaped his brother’s mouth. He looked genuinely saddened, but was it all an act? “Look, I know I’ve made some pretty bad mistakes in the past, Dante.” Matteo admitted, coming to stand up as well, looking his brother square in the eye. “What happened with Michelle all those years ago… it still haunts me, even to this day. I swear to you that I never meant for that to happen. For her to… to do what she did…” Roberto let out a soft sigh, noticing how hard it was for Matteo to admit he had done the wrong thing. Clearly he was trying to fix things between them. “And now, with Alexa… you have to believe that I would never wish any harm to come to her.” Matteo confessed. “I know that she loves you, Dante. It’s kinda obvious actually. And I can see that you love her too.” “And yet you continue to try seducing her, every chance you get!” Dante snapped. Matteo lowered his eyes in submission. “I’m sorry. It won’t happen again; I swear to you.” “You’re damn right, it won’t!” Dante shot back at him, standing proudly as if asserting his dominance over his youngest brother. “Ok, enough of this pointless feud…” Roberto cut in, crossing his arms over his chest. “What we need to focus on here is a way to spin this around in our favour. Perhaps there is a way that we can utilise Matteo’s connection with dear old dad to get him to come out into the open. We lure both our father and Dario out together and strike all at once.” Roberto suggested. “How?” Dante queried with a frown. “Well, we already know when and where he’s planning to attack us.” Roberto reminded, gesturing towards Matteo with his arm. “He said they would arrive around midnight and enter into the Castello through the underground tunnels to infiltrate the castle.” Matteo reported. Dante nodded his head, as if formulating a plan of his own in that very moment. “If they plan to launch their attack on us tomorrow night, then that leaves us little time to prepare…” Dante reminded. “We will have to think this through carefully. Plan every possible detail out. How many men did he say would be sent?” “He didn’t. But I can assume he will send a small army to take you two out.” Matteo replied with a chuckle. “To be completely honest, I don’t think our old man has any idea of what he’s getting himself into…” “Army or not, we’ll be ready for them.” Dante announced confidently. “And when it is all over, I will deal with our treacherous father once and for all.” - Nicola’s men had the place surrounded and decided to slip in through an unlocked back window, one at a time. Stealth was key here. Not one of them made a single sound as they carefully climbed into the farmhouse and aimed their dart guns ahead of them, searching for any signs of movement. As soon as they entered the house, the sounds of a continuous ‘thumping’ could be heard, along with heavy panting and moaning that appeared to be coming from down the long hallway. Nicola began leading his team along through the hallway in silence. It appeared that they were headed towards the sounds. Stopping right outside of the bedroom, they could hear muffled voices coming from the other side of the door. They sounded somewhat out of breath as they spoke to one another. “Mmmm, sì… ram quel cazzo duro dentro di me!” (Mmmm, yeah… ram that hard c**k inside me!) a female voice commanded with such confidence as the ‘thudding’ continued in a repetitive fashion. Something was hitting up against a wall. Nicola lifted a brow as he turned and looked at one of his men with a smirk. It was quite obvious what was going on behind this door as the voices continued. “Sì, fanculo questa piccola figa stretta!” (Yeah, f**k this tight little p***y!) the female voice demanded. A male voice began moaning, then grunting as the ‘thumping’ grew louder and louder with each passing second. “Di chi è questa figa?” (Whose p***y is this?) he commanded, causing her to squeal with delight. “Dimmi di chi sto scopando la bella fighetta.” (Tell me whose beautiful p***y I’m fucking.) “Il tuo!” (Yours!) she cried out in ecstasy. “Sono tutto tuo Vincenzo. Scopami più forte!” (I’m all yours, Vincenzo. f**k me harder!) The two began moaning loudly and Nicola decided it was time for them to make their move. The last thing he wanted to hear was how this ended. Slamming the door inwards with his large shoulder, both Vincenzo and the petite woman screamed out, cowering together on top of the bed as the masked men filled the room within seconds, surrounding them. “Che cazzo?” (What the f**k!) Vincenzo snapped, glaring back at the men pointing guns directly at him and his female companion. They were both naked and completely vulnerable as they sat in silence. Nicola decided to take the lead and speak. “Mi scuso per l’interruzione, signorina.” (I apologise for the interruption, Miss.) he said, looking directly into the eyes of the panicked woman as she attempted to cover her exposed breasts from view with the sheet. His eyes then fixated on the man sitting beside her as he spoke again. “Temo che il tuo… amico, venga con noi.” (I’m afraid your… friend, is coming with us.) “Non vado da nessuna parte-” (I’m not going anywhere-) ‘Zip!’ The dart had been fired so quickly that it cut off the end of his sentence whilst hitting its intended target in the side of his neck. Feeling the sharp sting, Vincenzo reached up to pull out the dart and glanced down at it, realisation forming over his face as he looked up at the masked figures one last time, right as his vision began to blur. “Fottuti bastardo…” (You f*****g bastards…) His voice trailed off into a mumble as the hitman fell face first down onto the mattress, causing the woman to scream in terror. “Aaaaah! Per favore, non uccidermi!” (Aaaaah! Please, do not kill me!) she cried out, glancing at them with tear filled eyes. Nicola gave a nod to one of his men who then fired a dart directly into the woman’s neck, sedating her as well. She felt the sedatives a lot quicker than her companion had and was collapsed onto the bed within seconds. “Tie him up and let’s get the hell outta here.” Nicola commanded, heading for the doorway. “And for god’s sake, someone put some clothes on him!” - With their target having been located and taken, Nicola and his team were now on their way back to the Castello. Nicola pulled off his balaclava, then pulling out his phone from his pocket and dialing Dante. Lifting it up to his ear and listening to the dialling sounds, he felt excited about the good news he was about to give his boss. After three rings, it answered, and Dante’s voice spoke on the other end. “Nicola, is it done?” Dante’s smooth voice queried. “The package was collected and is being delivered to you now as we speak.” Nicola spoke in obvious code language over the phone. “ETA…” he paused, lifting his arm up to view his watch. “Twenty minutes.” “Good work Nicola.” Dante replied. “Let me know when I can come have a little chat.” “You got it.” Nicola replied, just as Dante lowered his phone and ended the call. Roberto and Matteo both looked up at their older brother in question. Of course they had only heard his side of the phone call, but they wanted to know what it was all about. And in this situation, Dante would gladly appease them. “That was Nicola. He and his men have the hitman responsible for Alexa’s attack.” he announced with a smirk. “He’s on his way here now.”
