Chapter 29 - The Beach View

2307 Words
Once Dante and Alexa had been seated at their secluded table, far from anyone else in the restaurant, the couple each ordered themselves a drink to start with before a selection of appetizers were scheduled to arrive. The restaurant had been built right overlooking a fabulously pristine beach, so the monotone sound of the ocean waves rolling in continued on in the background, setting the scene. Their table was located on a private balcony just outside the main eating area and it appeared that all of the other tables and chairs had been moved inside for the evening, solely for them to enjoy their privacy. Alexa had to admit, this was a little over the top, even for someone like Dante Romano. She noted how the surrounding area had been set up with beautiful candles burning softly along the railing of the balcony and on about every single surface there was out there. The entire look of their private dining area was rather romantic and fairy tale like. She had to admit, her man really knew how to dine! “Dante, this is… amazing.” Alexa admitted, smiling as she looked out over the balcony at the waves crashing violently against the sandy beach. It was dark, but you could just make out the white foam of the water as it impacted. That and the loud, echoing gurgle of the waves as they rolled in. “I love it.” she added, keeping her gaze out on the ocean. “Only the best for you, bella.” he cooed proudly. The vibration of her phone inside of her purse caused Alexa to pause and glance down at the purse she still had sitting in her lap. Unsure of why anyone would be messaging her at such an hour, she reached into her purse and pulled out her phone to see that she had received a new text. It was from Willow. At first, she was hesitant to bother reading it. After all, she was on a date right now and Willow knew this. But then she began to worry for her friend’s wellbeing and decided to open the message. She frowned at what it said… ‘Lex, call me asap!’ Pursing her lips together, she decided whatever it was could wait and put her phone back inside of her purse. She really wanted to enjoy her evening alone with Dante. “So… what’s this place got to eat?” Alexa asked, sitting forward and placing both her arms on the table in front of her as she gazed into his eyes. “You hungry?” Dante questioned, lifting his left brow at her. “Starving!” she replied, wide-eyed. Dante chuckled at her honesty. This woman was everything he wanted… everything he needed. “Very well, as my woman commands…” he remarked with a fascinated smile. The powerful Mafia Don then turned to the side and signalled for one of the waiters to approach with a wave of his hand in the air. Immediately afterwards, one of the well-dressed waiters stepped forward, bowing his head in respect as he spoke in smooth Italian. “Si signore?” (Yes sir?) “La mia donna ha fame… tira fuori gli antipasti, per favore.” (My woman is hungry… bring out the appetizers, please.) “Si, signore.” (Yes, sir.) The waiter once again bowed his head and walked on into the restaurant to complete his task. Trying not to let on that she understood most of what he had just said in Italian, Alexa fought to hide her smirk as she lowered her head for a second and pursed her lips. “Do they have menus here? How do we order?” she asked him, looking around. “Yes, normally they do.” Dante admitted, nodding his head slowly. “But I have taken the liberty of arranging something a little more… special, just for you this evening.” “Oh?” her brows both lifted upwards in surprise and interest. “Do I get to know what it is?” “Not a chance.” He shook his head, leaning forwards and grasping at his go-to-choice of drinks, scotch on the rocks before leaning back and taking a big gulp of it, swirling it around in his mouth before swallowing it down. Perhaps liquid courage might help him here tonight. Dante was feeling somewhat confused; he had never been so nervous in all his life as he was right now, in this moment here with Alexa. Tonight was special… it needed to go perfectly. “So… it’s a surprise then?” she quizzed keenly, narrowing her eyes at him with a smirk. “Sì, amore mio.” (Yes, my love.) He replied in perfect Italian, grinning from ear to ear while swirling his drink around in his hand. “You keep calling me that… amore mio…” she reminded, knowing full well what those words meant herself as she went on to ask. “What does it mean?” Dante’s cheeks tinged a light crimson shade as his smirk grew wider. “It means… my love.” he admitted in embarrassment, lifting his eyes to meet hers as they practically sparkled with affection. Her smile was dazzling as her cheeks too began to tinge a soft pink. Clearing her throat Alexa suddenly stood up, surprising Dante who watched on with a confused expression on his face as she rounded the table headed towards him. Reaching out with both hands and grasping at either side of his face, Alexa leaned in and pressed her lips up against his softly, tenderly, closing her eyes and thanking him in a way only she could. Dante immediately felt himself calming at merely her touch and as her lips touched his, he felt himself swept away in a feverish sensation. This woman had no idea of how badly she could affect him. Inviting him in by opening her mouth, Alexa felt as Dante’s tongue entered her mouth and fought to claim hers as their kiss intensified. Before long the two were panting heavily between breaths, hungrily engrossed within their heated passion towards one another. But it was Alexa who ended their kiss by slowly pulling away with a smile. Dante’s eyes were hooded as they stared up at her while she stood up straight once again. Her hand reached out for his as she spoke softly to him. “Come on.” Reaching out his hand to take hers without question or concern, Dante lifted himself up from his seat and followed along after the goddess as she walked them towards the edge of the balcony and stopped at the railing. From there they had a beautiful view of the darkened beach right below. “This place… it’s incredible, Dante.” Alexa beamed happily. Wrapping both arms around her waist from behind, Dante leaned his chin down into the space between her neck and shoulder, brushing his lips up against the side of her neck. “I’m glad you like it.” he whispered softly. “I wanted everything to be perfect for you.” She gave a soft chuckle. “You do know I don’t need all this to be impressed, right?” she reminded him while gazing out at the serene scene before them. “I mean, I love you, Dante… not all this fancy stuff.” He merely smiled in against her skin at her words. “Can you honestly blame me for wanting to spoil you, bella?” he challenged with his rich, silky voice rumbling against the surface of her skin. It made her moist between her legs as she licked her dry lips. Her heart was beating fast within her chest as she felt his lips pressing up against the side of her neck, over and over again. Her breath had become shaky as she inhaled deeply, closing her eyes for a moment. This is where she wanted to stay for the rest of her life. Embraced within the strength and warmth of his arms. Suddenly a random idea crossed her mind, one that had her very excited. “Hey, maybe we could go down onto the beach a little later on?” she suggested. Dante smiled, leaning his chin down between her neck and shoulder again as he spoke. “Whatever you like, bella. Tonight, is all about us.” Alexa turned herself around to face him with a puzzled look on her face. Dante was forced to release his grip on her and watch as she did so. “Us?” she questioned. Dante lowered his gaze downwards as he gathered together the courage he required to say what he needed to say to her next. Who would have thought that the infamous Mafia Don known as the Reaper would find it so difficult to speak his mind? To really reveal what he held deep down within his heart... to bear his very soul to another… “The truth is, you deserve the world, Alexa.” he began, still working on building up his courage with each passing second. As he spoke, Alexa could sense the nervousness radiating from Dante and she couldn’t quite figure out what a man like him would have to be nervous about. It puzzled her. “Since meeting you, my world has changed for the better. You see, I…” Pausing and caught up in this powerful moment, Dante seemed to have lost the exact words that he wanted to say to her. His mind drew a blank as he felt his pulse throbbing violently. He began to panic, but it only lasted a second or two. Until just like that, he felt himself calming down at the feeling and warmth of her touch, as both her hands reached out to hold his. She smiled kindly at him. “It’s ok.” she reassured in a soft voice. “I want you to open up to me, Dante. I want you to feel comfortable talking to me, about anything. That’s all I’ve ever wanted.” Her admission pulled a smile from him and before he knew it, he had his courage back again. Opening his mouth to speak, the sound of footsteps approaching alerted the pair as they simultaneously turned to see several waiters emerging carrying trays of various entrees in their hands and skilfully balanced on their arms. The food looked and smelled delicious! “Oh, thank god. I’m so hungry right now.” Alexa announced, pulling Dante along by the hold she had on one of his hands, back towards the table. As they moved to sit back down, with Dante pulling her chair out for her like the gentleman he was around her, the Mafia Boss felt his heart aching at the thought of not getting the chance to say what he had intended to. He was about to confess something very important to her. Something he had been thinking about for quite some time now. Alexa got right into the food, immediately choosing one of savoury Potato Focaccia Rolls to bite into, while Dante instead tried some Bruschetta, a grilled slice of bread rubbed with garlic and drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. Both tasted delicious, according to their tasters who merely moaned with delight. “My god, this is heavenly.” Alexa announced before taking yet another bite. “Mmm…” Dante replied with his mouth full as he chewed and nodded his head. Once he had swallowed his mouthful, he spoke his intended reply. “I ordered everything they had on the menu here. I wanted you to try everything that Italy has to offer, bella.” he explained, reaching for a different entrée with his outstretched hand. “I still can’t believe I’m here… in Italy... it’s like a dream come true.” she admitted with a smile, reaching for her glass of water and taking a sip. Dante merely smiled as he finished chewing and swallowed. “I’m the luckiest woman in the world right now.” she declared. He surprised her when he shook his head slowly from side to side before speaking. “No bella, I am the lucky one…” he interjected, reaching out and taking one of her hands in his, giving it a gentle squeeze. “I am lucky to have found someone as bright and as beautiful as you are, in the dark and cruel world I am forced to live in. You, amore mio… you are a blessing.” Alexa could feel the tears welling behind her eyes at such a heart-felt admission from him. Dante Romano, the man who had closed himself off from everyone else in the entire world for almost his entire life, was finally beginning to open up... to her! She felt her heart soar with excitement. Suddenly, the distinct sound of a voice speaking in fluent Italian cut in from the doorway that led back into the restaurant. Ah… gli antipasti sono stati servitor… sono arrivato appena in tempo.” (Ah… the appetizers were served… I arrived just in time.) The voice was oddly familiar, and yet definitely not one that Dante had expected to hear anytime soon. Especially not here and tonight of all nights! Turning his head to face the person who had decided to join them out on their private balcony, Dante was met with the deep emerald-green eyes of none other than his father, Don Diego Romano. Mr. Romano Senior was currently staring back at his eldest son with a large, cheesy smile spread wide across his face. “Padre?” (Father?) Dante questioned in a sudden state of shock. “Ciao figlio…” (Hi son…) Diego remarked proudly. “Spazio per un altro?” (Room for one more?)
