Her friend came to her house pretending that she didn't know what was going on ,she asked Maram you are not looking lively, I hope you are strong? She told her friend that she was right, that she was not feeling fine and she can't talk now that she may come back next time. Her Friend Maraz was scanning the whole room and house to know if the wallet that the boys told him they left in the scene was with Maram, she offered to do anything in order to buy time to search everywhere. Meanwhile Maram didn't tell her mother that she was suspecting her friend to be responsible for her darkest moment.Maraz did not get any reply. She left with several thoughts in her mind. Mrs Okete met her rich but stingy cousin that was living in a nearby village with the wallet. On seeing him, they exchanged pleasantries and she proceeded to say that "I didn't come to ask you for money but there is a task I want you to perform for me". She narrated her daughter's ordeal and pleaded to help her bring the perpetrators to book with his position. He expressed his profound resentment to that ugly incident and collected the wallet and wrote down details seen in the wallet and handed over to her. Noteworthy, school will resume in two weeks' time for Maram to sit for her final examination and proceed to tertiary school. “I really know that I have an absent father, but over a week I am yet to see my father.I hope he is doing fine” Maram soliloquized. At the same time her mum came in with a long face. She asked Maram "have you eaten and were you able to sit in warm water"? On resumption day.”Hello my brilliant and lively students, how was the holiday?”. The pupils happily responded “ It was fine”. There were background noises, friends were reuniting ,chit and chat with so many things to talk about especially the girls. In the midst of this lively activity Maram was calm and mean unlike her which got most of her friends worried . Mr Oyos; the principal, came to Maram's class to inform her about the upcoming competition and to encourage her to be the very best as usual.Maraz was very uneasy with that because she was doing everything possible to stop Maram from meeting up with the competition exercise because she knew that she will win and will got scholarship to study overseas. Immediately the principal left the class Maraz rushed to Maram and put up devil smile and held Maram on her shoulder caressing like a caring soul she said Maram you are just recovering from that ordeal, why don't you tell the principal that you cannot be part of this competition, so that it will not discredit your good records for years. Maram told her that she would consider what she had told her, but she knew that the suggestion did not sprout up from the point of sincere care, she was fully aware that she was a sheep in wolves clothing. As the final bell rang, jubilation erupted among the students. Some girls bursted into spontaneous joy and jumping, while others rushed to pick up their bags, very eager to escape the confines of the school as if to say that school was the most undesired place to be at that time . The atmosphere was full of energy , with an evident sense of freedom and contagious. Joyous shouts of relief and celebration echoed as they flooded outside the classrooms, friends calling themselves in order to go as a group and ready to hit different roads in the community. Laughter was intensified in the hallways and friends embraced themselves, holding their friends' hands passionately, exchanging high-fives with each other with a lot of events to talk about and every junction groups of friends passed became a resting and discussion place. In the mist of this euphoria, Maram was just mute and with a stern look some friends use her as gossip. She even eavesdropped on one of the group of friends saying “may be her mother did not give her food for days. You know that they are very poor”. Maram could have walked back alone if not that she was still battling with the intense fear, sadness, anger, and deep resentment towards herself. On her way home she was preoccupied with the competition exercise and how she could cope with it. Maraz mumbled “maybe I will tell my friends about the Maram ordeal.” “Hello friends,Maram has not been contributing to our discussion. Do you know the reason?” Maraz asked.
