Chapter Four The Competition

Immediately she recalled that if Maram got to hear people say about that darkest night of hers, she would suspect her and she still had a lot to do with Maram. The girls were too curious to know because everyone admired Maram so much ,she swiftly changed the topic to how their school will emerge the winner in the upcoming nationwide competition. On the week of the resumption, people had adapted to the school activities again, school had fully set and teachers were already meeting up with the curriculum they gave out to the students in the first week. So many students were serious with their studies . At the assembly which was coordinated by the most feared teacher, just hearing his name brings tranquility to the class he had extremely zero tolerance to indiscipline and misbehavior any day she will be in charge of the late comer it is always a difficult thing to see any defaulter by 7am every students are already at the assembly.On that fateful day he picked the topic “No excuse”. Hello studentss,he roared !!! It was immediately followed up with a thunderous “sir”. They have not born that student that will not open his or her mouth wide and reply to him with immediate effect. The whole assembly was like a graveyard. Even if a pin fell down everyone will hear the sound. He asked what is the topic of today with his bulging eyes from the four poles of the assembly with his giant stature he terrified students with his composure and mean look, an eye contact with him is already a nightmare.His presence in that school have brought a lot of discipline that made parents to bring students of any caliber even the students seen as nincompoop or hooligans quickly obeys the rules and regulations and parents were happy for that because they always see tremendous positive changes in their children character. Immediately, the students echoed “No Excuse”. He continued, for you to achieve any success in this life you need to shun all forms of EXCUSES. It is the power of self-discipline which is capable of placing anybody on any height in this life. No excuses! Is a book written by Brian Tracy, who was a drop out of high school but has visited about 80 countries on six continents. He managed many firms but was able to do that through self-discipline,a life that so much detests giving excuses. Keep doing what you are doing that is good. Just be focused to move from good to better and then to the best. Don't tolerate any form of excuse to give your best to anything you do.Don't even allow your ill-health or depression to deprive you of great things that the future holds for you. "He roared again," tell your neighbor NO EXCUSE !!! Thank you for the audience he said with a loud voice. The assembly clapped like never before and some, many of their spirits were lifted and they had an elated mood. Maram was right in front of the teacher when he was talking about “No Excuse”.It was as if to to say that the exhortation was all for her, especially with the upcoming competition, because she was depressed and despondent and ready to give up. She went back to their class, and she drafted a timetable for the competition and sped off to study as usual . She encouraged herself and was able to talk with other girls for the first time since they resumed. School closed for the day. She went with her friends and happily engaged with one another, to the surprise of Maraz but she didn't know how to ask her. On reaching home she saw a car packed in front of their house which is a very rare sight ,she reduced her space and wants to know who was inside and what brought the person,she peeped from behind the house unnoticed by her mother and her rich cousin,Mr Douglas.She heard that the owner of the wallet is living in a nearby community but they are not in a haste so that they can get all of the perpetrators.On hearing that she hissed and got relieved and tiptoed and follow the front house,on seeing them they exchanged pleasantries and he held Maram hand and ask her about her school. Maram went to her room to change her school clothes. Mummy Maram don't be bothered so much I will get back to you as soon as possible,I have a meeting I want to catch up with he reassured her She saw him off and really thanked him for the effort he has put so far. Maram didn't want to ask her mother about the coming of uncle Josh because she did not want any further distraction. The topic of the day “No excuse” kept ringing loudly in her ears. The D-day has finally come. Different buses were trooping in carrying their school representative for the competition. The organizers were already seated everywhere was sparkling and well organized with every sit well labeled for the participants.Maram heart beat increased and she could hear the pounding of her heart beat ,she sized up the participants with her eyes and fear gripped her when one of the competitor asked her partner a question she didn't know the answer duringrehearsal. The competitors were called simultaneously, there cheering sounds from the audience;the supporters group.Maram and his colleague from the same school was given a last motivation dose. Maram was high spirited, ready to devour any question. The intensity of a quiz competition was heightened about 15 minutes into the activity which was characterized by a mix feeling of failure and success filled with suspense and excitement. As the event continued, participants felt a mix of anticipation and nerves, each one eager to showcase their knowledge and brilliance. The audience was on the edge of their seats, cheering and gasping at unexpected answers. Questions came in rapid succession, each more challenging than the last. The atmosphere crackles with tension as contestants think quickly, racing against the clock to deliver insightful and imaginative responses. As the competition progresses, rivalries develop, adding to the intensity. Contestants exchange mean glances, determination etched on their faces. Each correct response was met with bursts of applause, while incorrect answers drew sympathetic murmurs, especially from the audience. The stakes feel high, with each round intensifying the pressure. In the final moments, the atmosphere becomes electric. Contestants lean in, fully focused, knowing that one wrong answer could mean the difference between defeat and victory. The excitement builds to a crescendo as the winners are about to be announced, leaving everyone buzzing with a high surge of adrenaline. The competition came to an end and the chairman took the microphone and said in every competition there is always a winner and also a loser, but the winner exists because there is a loser. Both parties are highly important As the host stepped onto the stage, he continued. In this vein,We are ready to announce the winner for this great exercise that was sponsored by an international body. The hall falls silent, the air thick with anticipation. Contestants and audience members alike lean forward, eyes fixed on the speaker. The chairman's expression is serious and mean with a long face, a hint of sympathy in their tone. Thank you all for your participation and dedication,” they begin, pausing to let the weight of the moment sink in. “We know how much effort you’ve put in, and it’s been an incredible competition.He continued to preach in order to calm the turmoil in the hall However, I must announce that the results are not what many of you hoped for.” The words hang in the air, and a wave of disappointment washes over the room. Some contestants exchange nervous glances, while others lower their heads, bracing for the news. The host elaborates on the scoring process, emphasizing the high level of competition and the challenging nature of the questions. As they begin to read the results, tension mounts. Each name called met with cheers, but for those who don’t hear their names, the realization of defeat settles in like a heavy cloud. Finally, the host concludes with a note of encouragement, reminding everyone of their hard work and growth throughout the competition. While the news may be difficult to accept, there’s a shared understanding that this experience has fostered camaraderie which was decorated with resilience among the participants. The crowd erupts into supportive applause, a bittersweet moment of both for all the participants, including the supportive group (audience). The final winner was called, which happened to be one of the schools that have wealthy and politicians as parents.The outcome did not sink well with most people, especially Mr Of Oyos because the final result was not in congruence with his record.
