1292 Words
Maram! Maram ooo !! where is this stubborn girl mumbled by Maraz ;Maram's friend. Maram’s mother heard the voice of Maraz and answered "My daughter is not around. I sent her to the market to buy something for me". Immediately, Maraz sped off like something was pushing her unlike her who would spend some time with Mama and catch some gist. Her attitude made Maram's mother battle with some thoughts “could it be that they are having a bad time” which was one of the numerous thoughts. Silence took over the street in Maram village, at the dusk where everyone was preparing meals for the family, only the cracks of leaves and of birds' voices that sounded like a distressing alarm. Maram was at the cross road to her house. She could hear her heart beats and the sound of her gut and a hollow that she cannot pinpoint the exact cause because the road is her regular route, but deep inside her, she knew that something is about to happen. She instantaneously remembered her mum. She soliloquized “I hope hunger has not done worse for my mum”. It was like she was the only one that was threading a narrow road and as she walked through the road uncommon intense fear heightened, but she kept moving knowing that her mother was waiting for her. She paused for some seconds and looked around, but she was designed with goosebumps on her body she quickly removed her shoes and put inside the bag of the maize and picked a race. She still did not see any human despite the long walk that was filled with the terrifying shrieks of black owl. At halfway of the lonely road was an incomplete building that was abandoned and that has been the den of bad boys because the place always oozed out smoke of cigarette and euphoric substances. She had footsteps but couldn't not explain if it was all her mind ,next was a voice that was thunderous and humiliating and asked her to lie down flat immediately. Her nose and mouth were covered with an impregnated handkerchief, and it was like a dream, but if she pinched herself she would feel the pain, and she couldn't deny that it was her reality but a tragic one. She let go of the maize which fall down at the side of the road. She couldn't make any sound but rather was struggling to have some breath. She was carried to the incomplete building. She heard the voice of her friend on approaching the building telling someone that “finally she is here. She thought she was the only bright girl ,I may not be intelligent in the school but I got street sense especially after living with my fraudster brother, though he is in prison now but I know he will soon be bailed.” As they landed Maram on the floor like a log of wood she ran away and whispered to the head of the g**g to remember to do a clean work . Hey! Hey!! Ingredient dude just cooperate with us, we just have a few tasks to do with you.Maram was saying please have mercy on me with her fainting voice. “Shut up I am not here for any type of play", thundered by one of the boys. To aggravate the situation, a heavy stillness settled in the village. A dark and ominous cloud gathered in the cloud. At the same time, thunder growled and rumbled followed by a heavy outpour like the Noah's time in the holy book;bible. The sky darkened further with lightening that became a temporary light to that room in an incomplete building,Maram was drenched with water. The heavy rain was not just a weather event but a moment that is connected to antipathy to an innocent girl ,a confirmation that nature wants to yell against the whoredom want to be evidenced in a community that was known to be an inclusive and trustworthy neighborhood, the gods also sent his rageful warning because that kind of rainfall has not been recorded. There were about 5 boys. One of the boys jumped down from the heap of blocks and removed Maram Pinafore and pants .”He was saying I am the senior I will start first”Maram was struggling with all her strength and her strength was nothing to be compared with a strength of a man.Her mouth was cupped with the hand of the boy that was on top of her. There was stains of blood on the cloth under her ,the boys chorused “she is a virgin” The second boy also wants to have his way immediately Maram fainted and was very lethargic though it was feigned by Maram, a tactic that may scare them, the one that was holding her two legs wide open screamed she is dying ! She is dying ooo!! ,they all ran out very fast from the scene. Maram opened her eyes halfway like someone that was diagnosed of nocturnal lagophthalmos, she scanned the room and no one was there except bottles of alcohol drinks and a black wallet, she stretched out her hand to get the wallet and she tried standing but it was as if she was nailed down, she sighted stains of blood on her clothes she was lying on, immediately tears was streaming down her cheeks, her face flushed and contorted with bitter emotion. She struggled to catch her breath, and her eyes were glistening, a terrible moment that reflected a mix of doom and helplessness. The rain was still heavy, resonating with the depth of sorrow and misery in the life of Maram . She rolled herself like a log of wood towards the entrance that she saw with the help of lightening. She called on the gods of their land to help her. She was energized. She wore her clothes and she took the first step by standing up and her both legs were shaking like an old woman that has Parkinson's disease. She started a baby walk in the thickest dark of the night with a heavy downpour . She heard the voice of her mother, Maram! Maram!! Maram!!!. She answered with all her strength, but her voice was very weak. She kept moving towards the direction of her mother's voice. “Maram my child ooo I am here for you,You are my only eyes I have, the child gifted to me by the gods at old age ,my world,I am living because of you; Maram, please come back to me or I will kill my self”eulogized by Mrs Okete.Tears kept rolling in her cheek, she was with her friend that sold the cups of maize to Maram. Look up! see her!! her friend. Immediately they ran towards her ,she knelt down and held Maram tightly and thanked the gods of their land. What happened? Maram's mothe asked and was bitterly sobbing. Maram could not utter any word. She kept on crying and sobbing until they reached their home. Her father had gone hunting but in reality he was enjoying his life with his other family, still unknown to Mrs Okete. Hot water was quickly boiled by her mother's friend and Maram bathed, and she could barely talk but she was encouraged to talk. She struggled to explain her ordeal to them, handed over the wallet to her mother, who quickly opened it to know if there was anything that could trace the evil perpetrators, she saw some items, but she couldn't read it and Maram was not in a state to do so. She put it in her savings box, which is always safe. On the following day, Maraz came to visit Maram.
