The Morning After

661 Words
Soft sunlight slipped through the tall glass windows of the penthouse, spreading golden light across the quiet room. Elena stirred slowly. For a moment, she didn’t remember where she was. The bed beneath her felt too soft, the room too large, the silence too unfamiliar. Then the memories of the night before rushed back. The rooftop bar. The rain. Alexander. Her heart skipped. Elena sat up slowly, pulling the white sheet around her as she looked around the luxurious bedroom. Everything looked elegant and expensive, from the marble floors to the massive windows overlooking the city. But the other side of the bed was empty. Alexander was gone. A strange feeling settled in her chest. She wasn’t sure what she had expected. After all, they had agreed it would only be one night. No promises. No expectations. Still, she couldn’t ignore the small disappointment she felt. Elena climbed out of the bed and found her dress neatly folded on a nearby chair. Alexander’s suit jacket was placed beside it. For a moment, she held the jacket in her hands, remembering how he had wrapped it around her shoulders in the rain. A faint smile touched her lips. Then she shook her head. This was exactly why she never did things like this. Getting attached to moments that weren’t meant to last. After dressing, Elena stepped quietly out of the bedroom. The penthouse was silent. The enormous living room was empty, and the early morning sun illuminated the breathtaking view of the city. For a second, she wondered if Alexander had left without saying goodbye. But then she noticed something on the kitchen counter. A small note. Elena walked over slowly and picked it up. The handwriting was neat and confident. "Elena, I had to leave early for work. I didn’t want to wake you. Last night was… unexpected. Thank you for reminding me that life can still surprise me. — Alexander" Elena read the note twice. It was simple. Polite. But final. She placed the note back on the counter and took a deep breath. This was exactly what they had agreed to. One night. Nothing more. Elena walked toward the elevator and pressed the button. As the doors closed, she allowed herself one last look at the beautiful penthouse behind her. It felt like stepping out of a dream. By the time she reached the lobby, the city was already alive with morning activity. People rushed to work. Cars filled the streets. Life moved forward. And so would she. Three months later. Elena stared at the small white stick in her trembling hand. Her heart pounded loudly in her ears. Two pink lines. Positive. She blinked several times, hoping the result would somehow change. But it didn’t. The pregnancy test still showed the same result. Elena slowly sat down on the edge of her bed, her mind spinning. This couldn’t be happening. She had only been with one person. Alexander. The realization hit her like a wave. Her hand instinctively moved to her stomach. “Oh my God,” she whispered. Her life had already been complicated enough. She had moved to a quiet seaside town to start over, taking small music jobs and teaching violin to children. Now everything had changed again. Tears filled her eyes. Not from fear. But from the overwhelming realization that her life would never be the same again. Somewhere in the city she had left behind, Alexander Wolfe continued living his powerful billionaire life. He had no idea that the night they shared had created something far bigger than either of them expected. A child. His child. And Elena suddenly knew one thing with absolute certainty. Alexander Wolfe could never find out. Because the powerful world he belonged to was not a place she wanted her child to grow up in. So she made a silent promise. She would raise this baby alone. Even if it meant keeping the biggest secret of her life.
