A New Beginning

708 Words
The salty breeze of the ocean drifted through the open windows of Elena’s small cottage. Seagulls cried in the distance as waves rolled gently onto the shore. Life here was quiet. Peaceful. Nothing like the noisy city she had left behind months ago. Elena stood in the tiny kitchen, one hand resting lightly on her growing stomach while she poured herself a glass of water. Her life had changed in ways she never imagined. At first, the news of the pregnancy had terrified her. The sleepless nights, the endless questions, the fear of raising a child alone—it had all felt overwhelming. But slowly, that fear had turned into something stronger. Determination. She would protect her child no matter what. Even if it meant keeping the truth hidden forever. Elena stepped outside onto the small porch. From there she could see the endless blue ocean stretching toward the horizon. This little coastal town had become her safe place. No one here knew her past. No one knew about Alexander. And that was exactly how she wanted it. A soft knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. “Elena?” She turned as her neighbor, Mrs. Harper, stepped into the yard carrying a basket of fresh bread. Mrs. Harper was a kind elderly woman who lived in the house next door and had taken a liking to Elena since the day she arrived. “I brought you some bread,” Mrs. Harper said warmly. “You need to keep eating well now.” Elena smiled gratefully. “Thank you, Mrs. Harper.” The older woman’s eyes dropped to Elena’s stomach, her expression softening. “You’re glowing more every day.” Elena laughed lightly. “I think that’s just because I’m always tired.” Mrs. Harper chuckled. “Babies have a way of doing that.” Elena accepted the basket and leaned against the porch railing. For a moment she wondered what Alexander would say if he knew. Would he even care? Or would he see the child as nothing more than an inconvenience? She quickly pushed the thought away. That world was behind her now. “Have you chosen a name yet?” Mrs. Harper asked. Elena looked down at her stomach thoughtfully. “I’m thinking about Liam… if it’s a boy.” Mrs. Harper smiled. “That’s a strong name.” Elena nodded softly. Strong. Her child would need to be strong. Strong enough to grow up without a father. Strong enough to live outside the powerful world Alexander belonged to. Suddenly Elena felt a small movement in her stomach. Her eyes widened. “Did you feel that?” she whispered. Mrs. Harper laughed. “Oh, I’m not the one carrying the baby, dear.” Elena placed both hands on her stomach as the tiny movement happened again. Her heart filled with warmth. For the first time since discovering the pregnancy, the reality of it felt completely real. There was a little life growing inside her. A life she would protect with everything she had. Far away in the city… Inside the top floor of Wolfe Enterprises, Alexander Wolfe stood before the massive windows of his office. The entire city stretched beneath him. His assistant entered quietly. “Mr. Wolfe, the board meeting is ready.” Alexander didn’t move. His mind had been distracted all morning. For some reason, he couldn’t stop thinking about the woman he had met months ago. Elena. He had told himself it was just one night. Yet somehow, she still lingered in his thoughts. He rarely allowed anyone to affect him this way. And he had no idea why she was different. Alexander turned away from the window. “Cancel the afternoon meetings,” he said suddenly. His assistant looked surprised. “Yes, sir.” As she left, Alexander sat down slowly at his desk. He had built a billion-dollar empire by controlling every part of his life. But one simple night with a stranger had somehow left a mark he couldn’t erase. What he didn’t know… Was that miles away, in a quiet coastal town, the consequence of that night was already growing. And soon, fate would bring their worlds crashing back together. Because somewhere out there… his heir was waiting.
