Brianna held onto me the entire time as we walked out of the white room. I still felt ashamed for biting her but she didn't seem to be upset with me at all. She stopped at a desk in the hallway and talked to the lady who was sitting behind it, still never letting go of my hand. The sparks it send through my body distracted me from focusing on what they were saying, but when Brianna continued to walk the lady smiled at me and I awkwardly smiled back. Everybody was being so incredibly nice to me here, wherever here was, but I couldn't seem to shake the feeling it was all for show. What if they wanted the same things from me as the Alpha did?
Our mate won't hurt us, Lena. And I'm sorry for making you bite her.
You made me bite her? Why?
It's what Wolves do when they find their mate. And for us, it would make all of us stronger. I got carried away.
It's alright, I guess? This is new for both of us. We'll figure it out.
I was so focused on talking to Luna inside my head that I didn't realize Brianna had stopped walking. We were now outside the building with the white room, and in front of us was a large open meadow. A path made of little round stones led away towards a very large house. Sparks trailed up my arms and I focused on Brianna's dark brown eyes as she bend down to look at me, gently rubbing my arms to get my attention.
"Are you alright?" she asks, her voice filled with worry. I nod and she smiles, causing me to smile as well. It made me happy to see her happy, and even though I didn't understand it, I really wanted to make her happy.
It's the mate bond. It's a bit much to explain right now, but we can ask Brianna later oké? I nod, still finding it weird to talk to someone in my head.
"What's your wolf saying to you, my sweet Lena?" Brianna brushes a piece of hair behind my ear. How did she know I was talking to Luna? Could everybody hear us talk?
No, silly. But she has a wolf too you know. She can see on your face when you're talking to me. I can't wait to meet her wolf. The last part was added a lot more quiet.
"She said that I want to make you happy because of the mate bond, and she wants to meet your wolf." confusion flashes over Brianna face for a second before it settles back on her pretty smile.
"I want to make you happy too, and Keena would love to meet your wolf soon." she cups my cheek and then looks away, a white shine covering her dark eyes for a few seconds. I grab her face to look at her eyes but they've gone back to their regular warm brown.
"Your eyes, they turned white."
"I just linked to my house keeper to make you something to eat and bring it up to my room." she must have seen the confusion on my face because she smiled again.
"It's oké, I'll explain it all to you. I have a feeling we have a lot to talk about. Want me to carry you so the rocks don't hurt your feet?" she motions that we should walk towards the large building. I take a step onto the stone path but it doesn't hurt, it feels nice actually to feel the earth under my feet. I hold out my hand though and she happily takes it in hers. Together we walk to the house, we don't see any people outside, but once we get inside we are greeted by the sound of many people eating. It seems to be coming from a large open room on our left and delicious smells of food waft our way. My stomach grumbles again, and like I did back in the white room I press my hand against it to make it stop. Grumbling stomachs meant we would be hit, and usually we didn't get any food if they could hear we were hungry.
"Come on, let's go to my room so you won't meet the pack dressed in only my t-shirt." Briannas's eyes flash to almost black for a split second as she looks over my body. I look down at her t-shirt, did she not like me wearing it? She gave it to me to wear right? I liked it a lot, it smelled like her and made me feel very safe.
"You don't like it?" I whisper, the other people so close made me a little more nervous to talk but I didn't want Brianna to be angry at me for wearing her t-shirt.
"I like it a little too much, and I don't want people looking at what's mine." she growls softly, and something about it causes a pressure in my lower belly. I feel my cheeks getting hot and I follow Brianna to the right, where the feeling dissapears as quickly as it came, when I look up at all the stairs. She wants me to climb all of those? There must be at least a million steps! But before I can say anything, she has scooped my up in her arms and she starts up the stairs.
"You'll be running up and down the stairs in no time, but for now I'll carry you." she states, as she pulls me close against her chest. Her scent of flowers and pine trees surrounds me and I rest my head against her shoulder, being careful this time to not get too close to her neck.
She carries me all the way to the top of all the stairs, before she takes me into a bedroom. She puts me down carefully and closes the door behind us. The room is beautiful, with large windows looking out over a meadow and a forest in the distance. A large, four poster bed stands against one wall, and a fire place against the other. Everything feels light and welcoming, and the whole room smells like Brianna. I breathe in deeply through my nose, not getting enough of the scent.
"Feel free to look around while I run the bath for you, alright?" Brianna gives my arm a squeeze before dissapearing through a second door I didn't see before. She leaves it open and within a few seconds I hear water running. I'm torn between exploring the room or figuring out what a bath is, and almost automatically I go towards where I know Brianna is. The second door leads to a large room soft gray tiles on the walls and floor. Soft light shines from behind a large mirror on one side, and Bree is bend over a large white tub in the corner.
A memory fights its way into my mind as I see a real bathroom for the first time in twelve years. It's vague, just words and feelings of warmth and happiness, and the sound of my mother laughing. I see myself in a mirror, I can't be older then 6 or 7 years old. A white towel is wrapped around my body and another is twisted on top of my head. My mother stands behind me, also with a towel on her head. We giggle and laugh as she makes a white dot on my nose with some cream.
The memory fades and little me is replaced by my current reflexion. Dark circles make my pale blue eyes light up in a scary way, and my skin is a sickly white. Black hair hangs in greasy strands around my sunken in cheeks, and Brianna's t-shirt hangs loosely around my stick thin body. I can see scars on my arms and legs, bruises in all colors from blue to purple and green. A single tear escapes as I try to believe I'm free now, but how could I be free if my body was a reminder of everything I went through? How could I ever be free, if all the memories were written on my body?
Somewhere far away I hear the water turn off, and soft but strong arms turn me around, away from the mirror. Brianna gently lifts my chin and wipes away the tears that are now flowing freely.
"Listen to me, Lena. This is not who you are. The things that were done to you, don't define who you are or who you will be." she pulled me into a hug and I let her scent surround me again, pushing away the tears. I didn't understand this mate bond thing, all I know is that this is different then what the Alpha did to me. He had called me his mate, but never did he make me feel safe. Brianna made me feel safe, and so much more.
I let her help me into the bath, it was filled with warm water and soap bubbles that smelled like apples, and I let the tears flow freely as she gently washed my hair and picked out all the knots. Only when the water had cooled down, my fingers and toes were all wrinkled, and my hair fell is soft waves down my back, did the tears stop. It was going to take a while to forget, if I ever could, all that had happened. But I really started to believe that I had finally found my freedom. And it was right here, next to Brianna.
