Claire was jolted awake by someone calling her name. She opened her eyes to the harsh glare of fluorescent lights.
The nurse noticed she was awake and immediately came over, visibly relieved. "Ms. Bennett, you're finally awake! How are you feeling?"
The sharp smell of disinfectant helped clear her head. Little by little, she remembered what had happened.
She raised a hand to touch her forehead, only to be hit by a sudden, stabbing pain.
"Don't move. You have a mild concussion and need plenty of rest. We tried contacting your family, but no one answered. Is there anyone else we can call?"
The doctor handed her phone back to her. The call log showed seven or eight unanswered calls to Ethan.
