Asher's POV
"Where are Malcolm and Henry?" Vika asked, running to hug Magda.
"Oh, honey, you're alive!" Magda cried. "Both of you."
I caught Magda's eye as she squeezed her daughter. She smiled weakly at me. Tears sparkled on Vika's eyelashes.
Something was up. Why was Magda alone? Don't think I didn't notice the way she avoided answering Vika. I definitely had.
"I'm happy you're okay too," I said. Magda reached out, and I took her hand.
"What happened?" Vika asked as they pulled away from each other.
"Vadon's soldiers overwhelmed us. I managed to run away, but they took Malcolm and Henry," she explained.
"Were they arrested?" I asked, gaping.
