Episode 3 The First Day at Work

624 Words
The morning air was crisp as Amara walked toward the towering glass building that housed Alex Carter’s company. Her heart pounded with a mixture of nerves and excitement. How did I end up here? she wondered. Just a few days ago, her life had been ordinary cooffee spills, late-night assignments, and part-time shifts at a tiny café. And now… she was about to step into the world of Alex Carter: billionaire, enigma, and, she admitted to herself with a slight blush, dangerously attractive. As she entered the lobby, she couldn’t help but marvel at the sleek modern design. Marble floors stretched like polished rivers beneath her feet, and the walls were adorned with abstract art that seemed to whisper wealth and sophistication. Employees hurried past, all dressed impeccably, their faces a mix of focus and subtle curiosity, no doubt wondering who the new girl was. A familiar voice cut through the hum of activity. “Amara.” She turned and saw Alex, dressed in a sharp navy suit that made him look impossibly taller, his dark hair perfectly in place. He was leaning against the reception desk, that same calm, knowing smile playing on his lips. “Good morning,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady despite the flutter in her chest. “Good morning,” he replied, stepping closer. His presence was magnetic, filling the space around her like sunlight in a dark room. “Ready for your first day?” Amara nodded, gripping her bag straps tightly. “I… I think so.” Alex’s eyes softened slightly. “Don’t worry. I’ll guide you through it. You’ll do fine. I’m confident in you.” Confidence. That one word made her heart leap. No one had ever said that to her in such a way before. She felt both reassured and painfully aware of how unprepared she might really be. Her first task was simple, at least on paper: observe the operations, meet some of the staff, and assist with minor office tasks. But the minute she stepped into the main office, she realized that this was not her ordinary world. Computers hummed, phones rang incessantly, and people moved with purpose and efficiency that made her feel like a small fish in an enormous, glittering pond. Throughout the day, Alex appeared intermittently sometimes checking on her progress, other times standing nearby with that same unwavering gaze that made her pulse quicken. Each time their eyes met, a spark passed between them, subtle but undeniable. She tried to focus on her work, but every glance, every small smile, made it nearly impossible. Around mid-afternoon, she accidentally knocked over a stack of folders while reaching for a pen. Papers fanned across the polished floor, and Amara froze, mortified. Before she could even bend down, Alex was there, crouching beside her. “Here, let me help you,” he said calmly. His hand brushed hers briefly as he handed her a folder, and Amara felt a jolt she could not explain. “Thanks,” she whispered, avoiding his eyes. “You’re welcome,” he said softly, standing and brushing off his hands. “You’re doing well, Amara. Just… don’t be so hard on yourself.” The rest of the day passed in a blur of introductions, small tasks, and stolen glances. By the time she left the office, her mind was spinning. Alex’s world was glamorous, intimidating, and… intoxicating. And despite her determination to stay professional, she couldn’t ignore the magnetic pull she felt toward him. As she stepped outside into the evening breeze, she took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. This is just the beginning, she reminded herself. But somehow… I think my life will never be the same again.
