I didn't touch the note. Not at first. I just stared at it. STOP LOOKING FOR HER. My first thought was to leave. My second was to find out who had put it there. Unfortunately, my second thought usually won. I looked around the library. Empty. No footsteps. No movement. Nothing. I picked up the note. The paper was ordinary. The handwriting wasn't. It looked rushed. Like whoever wrote it didn't want to be there for long. I turned it over. Blank. I slipped it into my notebook. Then I heard a noise. A soft creak. I looked toward the shelves. Nothing. “Hello?” Silence. I stepped into the aisle. Nothing. Another creak. This time, behind me. I turned quickly. A figure moved at the end of the hallway.
