Chapter Ten: Dinner with the Enemy

Richard looked at him carefully, "You really tried for her, David." "That's the least I can do for my favorite. She deserves every good thing." He replied warmly. "You said the case was closed, how did the reporters know then?" "You know, reporters are nosy and they always want to know everything about a celebrity, either good or bad. I erased everything about her past but it seems my efforts were wasted." David said he placed his hands on the steering wheel. Silence enveloped them. "Since she is interested in you, why don't you....I mean why don't you try to talk to her, maybe that would cheer her up." David suggested. Richard shook his head. " I'm sorry she went through it all but I'm not interested in her and even if I am, you have been her friend for years there must be that special bond between you two...... "The only bond between us is pure friendship, Richard. I have tried my best to express my feelings to Ivy but I admit that she takes me as her friend, nothing more. I've backed out since then. I just don't want Ivy to revert to her previous condition. Only Ivy and I understand this,I really need help from anywhere to control and take care of her. If not she would fall into depression and it could affect her career. I will be disappointed in myself if she goes back to depression, I.....I am just so helpless!" He confessed as he rested his head in his hands. Richard knew he could help Ivy but there was no good connection between them,he dislikes her and she dislikes him too. But after hearing her sad story, he felt sorry for her. "David, you know you could...... The shrill ringing of a phone rang and David pulled out his phone from his pocket. "I'll be right back, I have to answer this call."He said and Richard nodded, then David walked out of the car. Richard looked out the window and Stacy walked to David's car. As she got to the car, she bent and widened her eyes as she saw Richard. "Mr. Walker?" "Hi." "Umm...I am here to meet Mr. David. I thought he was in the car with you?" "He went out to receive a call just now, what's it?" Richard asked. Stacy hesitated then let out. "I know you and Miss Ivy are not on good terms but she needs all the help she can get. She has locked herself inside her room and is not letting anyone in at the moment. She does not deserve what she's going through and I'm just helpless at the moment." "I understand you..but you could plan something with your team to cheer her up." "We have tried..we have tried but it's futile." Stacy retorted then her eyes lit up with anticipation. "I have an idea and it involves you." Richard raised a brow. "What?" Eva suddenly appeared beside Stacy. "I have urgent news, sir." "Great," Richard muttered as he alighted from the car then had a brief discussion with Eva, and then she left. He shifted his gaze back to Stacy. "What is this idea of yours about?" "If it works out, I will convince Miss Ivy to accept your proposal." Stacy let out, her tone firm. Richard gave no response, he only studied Stacy's expression. "What makes you think she would not accept it without this idea of yours?" "Both of us know that she won't accept it," Staxy answered back, her eyes locked on Richard. "Alright, go on." "We will inform the hotel management to prepare a special room with beautiful decorations and snacks for Miss Ivy and someone important." "For what?" "For a date." "Date?" "Yes." "With her team?" "With Mr. David. He is the only one who cares for her and if they spend time together, she would be so excited. Her mood would lift." Stacy explained. Richard nodded. "That is a brilliant idea though." "Hey guys!" David announced and they turned their gazes to him. "I got a call right now...my twin sister is on her way to the hospital. She is in labour. I must go." "But..but.. "I will talk to you later, Stacy. I have to leave and please look after your boss, I'll be back soon." He cut in and then entered the car. "We will talk later, Richard ." Richard nodded and both of them watched as he drove out. Stacy looked at Richard and their gazes met. "What?" "I think the plan has failed but there's still hope for us," Stacy replied then leaned forward. "You can be her date." "I have had enough of your jargon. I'm out of here." Richard declared and then attempted to leave. "I heard from the hotel guests how you had saved her from the clutches of those reporters. Since Mr. David is not around, you can take his place. It is just for a few minutes, please ." Stacy pleaded softly. Meanwhile, Ivy woke up in her room. As she sat up, her head throbbed and she realized she had gone to bed crying. She has not even taken anything in the morning and her hunger has grown worse. Her eyes studied the room slowly and saw the long table in the middle of the room and different tempting delicacies on it. Who did this? She closed her eyes again and rubbed it, unsure if she was dreaming. She opened her eyes and realized she was not dreaming. It was real. There were two chairs at both ends of the table and she pondered who had dared to do this to her room. As she stood up, she walked to the table and stared at the red wines plus different desserts. "Do you like it?" Richard asked as he walked in. She shifted her gaze to the intruder and furrowed her brows. "What are you doing in my room? Who let you in?" "Calm down Miss Ivy." He said as he sat on one of the chairs. "Stop standing there, come join me for our date."
