CHAPTER 36

"Hello, ladies,"Marvin greeted Jackie and Janine. Mark sat beside his girlfriend. Marvin stood in front of Jackie. "How's your day?" Mark asked. "Everything's okay. We had a peaceful day and the class was fine." Janine looked at what Marvin's holding. It looks like an application form. "What is that?" "Oh, this?" Marvin raised his hand showing the paper he's holding. "It's an application form for the school's swimming team. I'll try it." He grinned. "That's cool. There's a try out later, right? I saw it on the bulletin board." Jackie looked behind him. "Steve? What are you doing here?" "Hello, everyone!" He waved his hands to them. "How's it going?" "What the hell are you doing in our school?" Marvin's jaw dropped. "You said you have been working on something the whole time." "I applied as an English professor here and I'm hired." He showed his envelop and opened it. His transcripts and other credentials are in there. "I also fixed my working visa here." He winked at them. "Seriously?!" everyone said in shock. "What's so shocking about working here? Am I not welcome?" "No, it's not that, but why so sudden?" Marvin frowned. He gave a strange look at Steve. "A lot of reasons," he simply said. "Overall, I like it here." "Okay, fine, Sir Steve," Marvin said sarcastically. "Yeah, you should practice saying that. I could be your professor soon." Steve laughed. "What's that?" "I'm joining the swimming team." Marvin grinned. "I'll try later." "I forgot you love water," Steve said. "I'm free the whole day. I can hang around here." His eyes roamed around the campus. "Jen's in the clinic, we just finished our lunch," Jackie teased him. She knew he was looking for Jen. "I'll go there for now and say hi. Let's meet up later at the pool. What time is your try out?" "Three o'clock," Marvin replied. "Okay, I'll be there. See you later." Steve stormed fast going to the building to see Jen in the clinic. They all went to the pool area to watch the swimming team and their try out for new members. "Oh, we can see a lot of hunk men here," Jackie said. Looking at some men in trunks. "Hey, stay loyal to Marvin," Janine warned her best friend. "Why?" Jackie asked in disbelief. "We're not in a relationship." "You're really clueless." Janine shook her head. "The guy likes you, can't you see it?" "I can't." She rested her chin on her hands and stared at the two hunks beside the pool. Her attention got caught when she saw a hunk with a perfect abs coming out from the shower area. He's walking like a Greek god in blue trunks, all wet. Jackie gulped. "Why didn't he remove his shirt when we were on the beach and he wore a pair of shorts?" Mark laughed. "Honestly, he forgot to bring the bag where we put our trunks that's why we just wore shirts and shorts the whole time. I also don't want to wear trunks in public without Janine's permission." He stared sweetly at Janine, she smiled in return. "Gee!" Jackie rolled her eyes. "Also," Mark continued. "He didn't want to wear trunks that time. He thought our culture was different and he didn't want to shock you seeing him almost naked." "That's a waste." Her attention went back to Marvin. A group of female students at the side were giggling while looking at him. She frowned when she saw them. "These girls..." "Aren't you like them?" Janine teased her. "No, of course not!" Jackie denied it but she can't take her eyes away from Marvin. His fine jawline and deep set eyes are to die for. And a good sculptor seemed carved a perfect white chocolate abs. She was in a dreamy state when she heard screams from girls. It was Henry who's coming out of the shower room. His abs are also defined, paired with a lean shoulders and chest muscles. "No wonder, girls are swooning over him even though he's a scumbag," Jackie said in disgust. "I think no one believes in what he did to Berna." "I guess so. He's still with that new girl," Janine said. She pointed at the girl using her lips. "Right. She's like a proud girlfriend. Look, she thinks she won the lottery over those girls. If she only knew." Jackie saw Andrea made face at the group of girls who were swooning over her boyfriend. The coach of swimming team called the first six applicants to pile up beside the pool. He took out his timer. The applicants stood up at the starting platforms. Marvin was one of them. The coach made a signal and everyone dove in the pool. "Hurry up!" Jackie shouted to cheer Marvin. "You can do it!' Marvin's turn was smooth he was able to swim back to the finish line. "Yes! He's first!" Jackie stood up and punched in the air. Marvin looked at their direction and waved his hand to them. She waved back in happiness. The group of girls stared at her. "They seemed to hate you!" Janine laughed. She immediately sat down out of embarrassment. "I should have just kept quiet." The coach called the next six applicants. Henry was one of them. They all stood up at the starting platforms. The coach whistled and everyone dove in the pool. "He's fast, too," Jackie said in amazement. Henry made a swift turn and swam faster than the other applicants. "J-Janine, look. Can you see it?" She pointed at Henry. Janine's mouth went wide when she saw it. Mark couldn't see anything. "What are you seeing?" "There's a black shadow swimming together with Henry!" Jackie had a goosebumps upon seeing it. "D-does it have horns?" They both rubbed their eyes to make sure they were seeing a real shadow with horns. They did it for several times until Henry reached the finish line and the shadow was gone. They looked at each other before looking back at Henry. Marvin waved his hand, he signaled to see them outside. They nodded and stood up to leave the indoor pool area. What was shadow swimming with Henry? Was that another Soul-eater or just an evil spirit lurking around humans? Janine wasn't sure but she knows they are facing another danger.
