“So where are we going, Soon-to-be wife?” He said, breaking the silence between them after she led him to the parking lot. The tension from the little confrontation is still in the air.
“Let’s start with names first, I’m Alexa Smith,” She said extending her hand to shake his, and he smiled taking her hand and using it to drag her close to him and pressed a kiss to her lips. It seemed he had gotten quite comfortable.
“I know who you are little wife,” he said with a small smile, “I’m Luca Lorenzo,” he said, finally satisfying her curiosity.
Wait….she had heard that name before, but where? She turned to him with wide eyes, he couldn’t be right? What were the freaking odds she had proposed marriage to a rumored Mafia Boss.
“Ah… I see you’ve heard the rumors,” he said the same little smile on his lips, his dimples coming to show again, and she lost herself a little bit staring at him. He was so freaking attractive it was so weird and so uncomfortable.
He also smiled a lot, which for a Mafia boss was weird. In all the books she had read, they were usually the Ruthless Possessive men who said only like two words, this one, however, had a lot to say and plenty of smiles to give too. Not weird, not weird at all.
“I have, but I’m not sure if they were about you and if they were, then they are so wrong I’ll never believe societal gossip ever again,” She said and his smile widened, he stared at her like she was the most interesting thing ever and asked his next question.
“Why is that?”
“You’re clearly not a Mafia Boss. You smile too much, you have dimples, you’re wearing a pink Tie, it can’t be you. You’re too full of happiness and sunshine to kill a fly talkless of anyone.” She said, and he chuckled, the sound deep and husky cause goosebumps to erupt on her skin. She was so attracted to him, it scared her.
“You have such a poor sense of Judgment it’s not a surprise you had two horrible people in your life, tell me love, how does a Mafia Boss need to look like you to convince you they are tough and strong?” He said, and she glared at him, still feeling very sensitive on what she had witnessed tonight with her best friend and her boyfriend for ten years.
All that time just wasted and spent like that, it’s no wonder he didn’t think to propose to her, he was much too busy eating her best friend’s face out.
“Did I upset you?” Luca asked again, as he tried to drag her close to him. She was shocked that he had even noticed what he said had offended her. James had been so blind to it, whenever she was hurt or upset about something he said or did, he would be so oblivious to it, and if he wasn’t, he would tell her she was overreacting or not comment on it at all. So the fact this man she had just met knew fully well how what he said had hurt her and had apologized immediately was a breath of fresh air.
“It’s alright, I’ll just blame your poor sense of humor. As for your question, I don’t believe you must be the stereotypical looking Mafia Boss to actually be one, I was talking a whole of because I would rather not panic on the fact that I might have just asked a Mafia Boss to marry me, and he said yes!” She said, and he nodded as if he could understand where she was coming from which was weird because even she didn’t understand where she was coming from.
“I understand, it’s alright, you don’t have to worry about a thing with me, I’m not a Mafia Boss, not yet at least.”
“What the hell do you mean by not yet? Are you in line or something to become one? Do I need to run?”
“Haven’t you heard the saying to never run from a hunter because they love the chase? You can’t exactly run from a Mafia Boss, they’d find you if they wanted too,” he said and she rolled her eyes.
“That’s not exactly the saying but whatever,” She said and began to drag him towards her car.
“Wait….where are you taking me too?” He asked, sounding a bit scared much to her amusement.
“Calm down, I’m not kidnapping you, Just taking you to the restaurant I reserved for my Ex this evening, I planned to take him after the proposal so since he isn’t the one I ended up proposing too, it’s only fair I take you there,” She explained, and he nodded, visibly calming down. She rolled her eyes in amusement, he was a different bread for sure, and she had the best feeling she was going to enjoy whatever it is they were going to do, he was a lot of fun so far, she could only hope for the best.
~~~~~~
“This is a very fancy restaurant,” He said as he looked around, a bit of reluctant appreciation on his face, causing her to smile in amusement.
“Only the best for you,” She said as she led him to the floor she had specially reserved.
“You mean for your Stupid Ex-Boyfriend, but I guess I’ll accept it.” He said begrudgingly as they made their way to the table. Her phone kept going off at the number of texts she was receiving from both her Ex- Boyfriend and Ex-Best friend.
She couldn’t help but remember the conversation she had heard before she slammed the door shut and left in tears.
Both her boyfriend and best friend had been using her all along for her wealth. Her boyfriend had been pressuring her with the investment because he truly wanted it to be a business he would have had for when both of them revealed their true colors.
“Are you alright?” Luca asked, his voice gentle, pulling her out of her world of thoughts. She looked up and stared in his eyes before taking deep breaths and nodded. Now was not the time for this, she had less than twenty-four hours before she’d need to meet her parents on the island and introduce them to her Fiancée for the very first time.
“I’m alright. I need us to understand whatever this is we are doing right now. I need a man to introduce to my parents tomorrow and spend the week with me, if I have to pay I’ll pay, but we need to leave tomorrow, how is that?” She asks as she stares at him cautiously.
“Hmm…. I also require a wife but unlike yours that’s for a week, I’ll need one for a full year. If you’re up to the task when I can come with you and meet your family tomorrow without you needing to pay me or anything, all you’ll have to be is be mine for a year, how does that sound to you?” He asked, and Alexa fell silent as she thought about it. This could either be a good decision or a terrible one.
She had no information on this man, he could be a serial killer for all she knew and agreeing to such could be quite dangerous eventually, but she didn’t have it in her to care much at that moment.
“Alright, I think we have a deal.” She said with a sigh, and she extended her hands to his for a handshake, and she smiled, taking her hand in his.
“I guess we have a deal, we will need to sign a contract Just so we are sure how serious we are about it,” He said and then turned around to bring out a contract from his workbag, stunning her to silence.
“D-do you carry that around all day?” She said, and he just smiled at her, not answering her question, and he signed his end of the deal and pushed the contract towards her, nodding for her to follow suit and do the same thing.
“Who knows when I’ll get what I’m looking for? I care it around Just In case I do.” He said with a smile, and she shook her head before bringing the document near and going through it quickly with her eyes before signing her end.
“We leave by 6:00am tomorrow morning so we can be there early, How do we meet that early?” She asked him.
“You come home with me,” he said simply, and she burst into laughter before becoming serious again when she found out he was, in fact, not joking.
“Oh you’re serious,” she said, and he nodded, looking at her intensely. She shook her head and sighed, surprised with herself that she was budging so fast to a stranger.
“Alright, led the way.” She said, and he did just that, leading the way to her whatever this new reality had to store for her.
