The start of a new day, others may think that it's a new day and it's time to make new life choices. For me today is another day I fight for my life, I need to work as quickly as possible, try and run to the stores to by food, and make it home without anyone robbing me. If i'm lucky I will see the landlord and pay rent, but who knows when he will stop by the buildings. You may be wondering what kind of work I do, well I clean out peoples houses, usually dead peoples houses. I take what I can and try to sell it at a pawnshop and I keep what I make. Sometimes I get lucky and find something I could use, but usually I just find junk. I show up at the board outside the police station, there they keep lists of places needing to be cleared out and a description of what we will be encountering, sometimes we clean out evictions and the residents haven't even left yet, people just show up and start taking their stuff. I quickly scan the sheets for one that I can identify the street of, grab the sheet, and head on my way. Like normal the doors unlocked so I don't need to grab a key, taking a quick look inside there appears to be a decent amount of stuff. Hopefully this means I have hit the jackpot. There was many box's already packed up, so this person was either just moving in or about to move out, the list only tells me that they are deceased.  I quickly start on sorting out the box's I start a pile for things they pawn shop might want, pile for things that definitely will go into the garbage, and a pile for things I would like to keep. Halfway through the box's I find a jewelry box, i opened it to find rings, and bracelets. They were beautiful, they sparkled in the light, these will hopefully make me a fortune, along with the jewelry box was a picture,  it was a family smiling, a young couple and in the women's arms was a baby, the older woman was wearing on of the bracelets so i can only assume the box belonged to her or the baby that is held lovingly in her arms. I try not thinking to much into these peoples lives, why add more sorrow into my life. I have learned from the past it's best to just let these people stay a mystery and to not involve myself in what happened, that's a good way to meet the same fate as they did usually.  I quickly finish cleaning out the home, I start my rush to the pawn shop. If I can walk fast enough it should only take me 20 minutes to get there, if I am lucky there won't be a line and I can make it out in just under an hour, that would leave me with 2 hours before dark. If I move fast enough I can grab some groceries and still make it home with a little time to spare. I suddenly fell back onto the ground, the wind slightly getting knocked out of me. I take a quick glance at what I ran into, unfortunately I ran into a man, he wore black skinny jeans with a lose black v-neck shirt, he also wore a black baseball cap that covered his most of his hair. Small black strands spilled out the front, his eyed were a piercing green, yet they felt soft and warm to look into, his expression did not change, he stared down at me with a sharp glare on his face. I quickly snapped out of it and picked my self up, lowering my head I began to walk fast away. It is better to just submit to everyone and pray they let you go without consequences.  I made it to the pawn shop quickly, after the incident earlier and getting lucky they didn't harm me I walked faster but stayed more alert. Without saying anything I walked straight up to the counter and placed the jewelry I decided to sell down, the greasy looking man just looked at me with a smirk. Just the look made me want to get sick, I already knew what he would try and pull next, it's not uncommon here where they will try to low ball you and offer a "favor" for them for extra on the items your selling. I had fallen victim to this many times when I was just starting out. When your new to this life style you think that that's just how it's done here, they prey on the vulnerable women. I keep my glare on my face not showing a single emotion to the waste called a man " I want my money for these now or I will walk straight out that door" his ugly smirk stayed on his face as he eyed me before speaking " Oh honey, nobody's told you. we only operate business once we are satisfied with what you have to offer" His voice sounded just like the rest of them, it was low and rough, like he had something scratching his throat. Probably all the diseases hes caught running his business like this. "I'm not new and and not stupid, I've told you once but I guess you didn't hear me properly, give me my money or I walk out and you lose you business from me. I'm not the one who will suffer the consequences from the gang leader when they decide to stop by to purchase something" I finished me statement with a smirk at the end, matching the evilness in his. He reached into his drawer and threw the cash onto the counter, he knew I was right, it's only a matter of time before they come in to purchase things and if the shop owners don't have what they want the owner takes quit the beating.  Grabbing the money I took a quick glance at my watch, only an hour and a half before dark, the nearest store is a 30 minute walk away, running will draw too much attention but I need to move as quickly as possible. Pulling open the store doors I notice it's unusually quiet, I quickly enter and walk quickly to the exact isle I need. Half way into the store I have only passed two other people, I grab the couple of item and start walking to the counter, as I pass the people again I notice they are staring at me. I get to the checkout counter and the cashier looks a little extra scared, I could see the tear almost escaping her eye. I do a quick look around and there those people were again, standing there watching me, I quickly put the exact cash onto the counter, grab my items and dash out the door. I know I shouldn't run but I needed to get home, somewhere safe, away from those watching people.
