I watch his bulky form taking up the doorway, his eyes locked on me.
I stand up hastily from the bed, startled by his deep voice and sudden appearance. As I stood, the sudden weight made my legs give out from beneath me.
I hadn’t realised how tired I was, my body ached, my feet sore from having walked barefoot for so long. I could feel myself falling to the floor in a head of sheets and mud. But before I reached the ground, a strong arm wrapped around me and brought me back to my feet. The contact lit an electric current through me like nothing I had ever felt before.
“I’m sorry, I just assumed…” I stuttered over myself. His blue eyes peered down at me. He held no expression on his face, the only sign of his humanity being the slow steady thump of his heart through his chest.
