I watch his bulky form taking up the doorway, his eyes locked on me. I stand up hastily from the bed, startled by his deep voice and sudden appearance. As I stood, the sudden weight made my legs give out from beneath me. I hadn’t realised how tired I was, my body ached, my feet sore from having walked barefoot for so long. I could feel myself falling to the floor in a head of sheets and mud. But before I reached the ground, a strong arm wrapped around me and brought me back to my feet.
