Chapter 16

Blake Stumbling through the back door, I placed Claire onto the kitchen counter without breaking the kiss. It took a lot of willpower to part from her soft lips. She was breathing heavily as she grabbed my shirt to pull me back to her. I gripped her hips as I bowed my head down to rest my forehead against her chest. She snaked her fingers through my hair as her heartbeat started to go back to normal. “We should go change.” I pulled back and placed my hands on the counter on either side of her. She let out a breathy sigh and laid her hands over mine. She dipped her head, her voice softly asking, “can we continue this upstairs?” Her fingertips running slow circles across the back of my hands. Slowly they crept up my arms, sending light shocks over my skin. “We should talk about some things first.” Her face fell a little, as she smoothed her hand flat against my chest. I softly grabbed her chin and raised her head until our eyes locked. “Please Claire, its important.” She nodded her head and started to slide forward to get off the counter. I grabbed her waist and gave her a soft kiss before bringing her down. As I watched her walk out of the kitchen, I glanced outside. The rain had stopped but as a few droplets fell from the upper deck and hit the patio, steam rose as the water evaporated. We parted ways at the top of the stairs. I watched Claire go into her room as I shut my door. The room was as I had left it the night before. Shaking my head of the thoughts from last night, I went into my bathroom for a quick shower. As I shut the water off, I could hear my bedroom door open. “Blake,” Claire called out. “Just a second,” I replied as I wrapped a towel around my waist. As I opened the door, I could see Claire cleaning off the table. Her eyes shot up when she heard the door open. A blush crept onto her cheeks as she racked her eyes down my body. “I’ll be right back.” “I don’t mind if you stay like that.” She purred. I internally groaned as I pictured throwing her onto the bed. There was a small twitch down south as I turned toward my closet. “You wouldn’t listen to a word I said,” I laughed as I heard her fall back onto the couch. Closing the closet door behind me, I let out a deep breath before putting on a shirt and a pair of shorts. I waited a couple of minutes until I calmed down before I left. As I walked out, I looked over to Claire, stretched out on the couch flipping through Netflix. Walking over, I lifted her legs to take a seat under them. I lightly ran my fingertips up and down her smooth bare legs. After Claire finally settled on a movie, I tickled her toes, making her squirm. “Can we talk now?” “Talk about what,” she asked, turning her body to face me. “About you and your abilities. You’re not an ordinary witch.” “What do you mean?” She furrowed her eyebrows as she sat up and sat cross-legged. “I mean that you can do more than just control nature and water. Over the last 24 hours you tapped into the fire affinity and expanded your water affinity.” “How is that possible?” “I'm not sure Claire,” I reached for her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “But we will figure out what's going on.” “So, what are all the different affinities and what do they control?” “The most common affinity is Nature. Which can control plant life, the sky, lightning, wind, and sometimes poison,” Claire leaned in closer, resting her chin in her hand. I reached over and placed my arm around the back of the couch. “The second affinity is Water; controlling or creating rain, steam, ice, or snow. Third is Fire; dealing with heat, fire, smoke, ash, and magma. Lastly, is Earth; that can control stone, metal, and sometimes gravity.” “How do you know I can do more with my affinities?” Claire leaned in closer to my side, not breaking eye contact. “Because last night after I left you it started to snow. You changed the rain into snow, meaning you have tapped into more of your Water affinity.” Claire seemed to become a little upset hearing of her latest ability enhancement. I reached out and grabbed her waist, “come here Claire,” I motioned for her to get closer, pulling her onto my lap. Her body relaxed as she wrapped her arms around my neck. I laid my hands on her thighs and leaned down, brushing my lips lightly over her neck. A shiver ran over her body as I whispered, “now I am starting to think you also hold the affinity for Fire. Every time we get intimate, it gets hot.” Claire pulled back from me; mouth slightly agape. “Three affinities,” she gasped. “Has that ever happened?” “No, it hasn’t, but that’s not what I'm worried about.” I sighed and brought her body into mine, hugging her closely. “From what I read, there are three other affinities that are very rare. Not many witches possess them.” “But you think I do?” Claire tensed as she hugged me closer. “I'm not sure. You might possess one of the affinities.” “What are they?” “There is the affinity for Light; so, you can have telekinesis, control electricity, or control technology. There is Darkness; where you can deal with shadows, sounds, and sometimes manipulate death. Lastly, is Spirit; having control over life, souls, and dreams.” Claire pulled back to look at me, “so what do you think I have?” “I believe you possess the element of Light. Downstairs, when you asked if we could continue things upstairs and ran your fingers over my arm, you created a spark between us.” “I didn’t even feel that,” she whispered as she looked at her hands. “Did it hurt?” I laughed and grabbed her hands, placing a soft kiss on each palm. “No, it actually felt nice. But we should start training, every day, to see what you can do and how to control it. I think right now it's all emotionally based.” Claire nodded and we fell into a comfortable silence. She sat straddling my waist, running her hands through my hair. I ran circles over her thighs as we enjoyed each other's presence. Claire yawned and rested her head on my shoulder. Laughing, I lifted her off my lap and carried her to my bed. Pulling the covers over her body, I placed a light kiss on her forehead. As I turned away to go to sleep on the couch, Claire grabbed my arm. “Blake, can you lay with me please?” I smiled and crawled into bed next to her. She curled up at my side and I wrapped my arms around her small frame, falling into a deep sleep.
