Silas
The girl had been gone for weeks now. Why is she so da*n sensitive but act so tough? Chrissy was told the same thing a few times and she didn't stop chilling with us. JJ, Sincere, Sion, McGee, and my dates didn't like her. Shay had to deal with mine and maybe a few of Sins and Sions but that's it. Once you say something, she doesn't want to hear she disappears for a while. Even while she's gone, I still have to listen to Alicia fuss about the last time she saw her. Sitting here in the living room with Mama I planned on breaking up with Alicia later at the mall today. This girl named Alex has been trying to get my attention for a few months now. And quite frankly, I am done with hearing about Shay every five minutes.
“Hey baby girl, how are you feeling?” Mama’s voice broke me out of my train of thought. I followed my mother's eyes to who she greeted. My eyes traveled up her body starting at her blue toenails to her baggy sweatpants. Then her loose fit mickey mouse V-neck long sleeve. I stopped at her puffy red eyes and her messy hair pulled into a wild bun on the top of her head. Shay looked like she lost a fight with pollen, but I feel like that wasn’t the case.
“What happened to you?” I ask making her scrunch up her face at me as she walks past to sit at the far end of the couch. She knows I'm not going to let her ignore me and she should know my mother isn’t going to do much protecting if I decide to go mess with her. Mama swears that Shay is her daughter and she like to see us interact even if that means we can torture Shay a little before Mama says something about it. She calls it “boys being boys” and Shay should be used to it by now.
“I’m feeling better that nap was life.” Shay says softly.
“Good, Sincere didn’t bother you?” Mama asks her.
“When did you get here?” I ask her.
“Early this morning.” Shay shook her head ‘no’ answering my mother’s question.
“Why were you crying?” I continue with my questions.
“Who said I cried?” She frowns.
“Okay. Why would Sin bother you?” I shrug then move on.
“She slept in his room. You know how your brother can get.”
“Extra, annoying, controlling, he’s a very moody boy.” Shay joked. I nod my head in agreement with them but focus on Shay. I can’t tell what she’s thinking exactly, but I know it has something to do with her “crying”. She gets up to go to the kitchen while I lean back in my seat placing one arm behind my head admiring my view. She did a little speed walk into the kitchen and stayed there for a minute. Why did she sleep in Sins room when she could have stayed in my room? I she can’t be still mad about Alicia, that’s done. She’d know if she came to me about it like she does everything else. I shook my head when Shay returned from the kitchen and stood in the doorway with a coffee mug. Sitting how I was when she left, I trailed my eyes up her body. Subconsciously chewing on my bottom lip, as she shifts from one foot to the other. I stopped at her eyes and seen her looking at me. I smirked wanting to get my hands on her. Her cheeks burn red before she quickly turns into the kitchen. That girl has no idea the things I want to do to her little a*s.
“Ma, may I drive the car to the mall?” I ask with extra charm.
“No, I'll drop you off. Shay has to get her party outfit today.”
“Ight” Shay sure knows how to mess up my plans.
“Shay! go get dressed in my room.” Mother yells. She walked through the living room once again avoiding my eyes. I think back on what she said about me to her friend. “Silas is a flirt; he knows how to look at girls and make them blush. I don’t know why or how but it works for him. Maybe it’s because he’s the cutest guy I know, and I know a ton of girls who would agree. The only downside about him that many girls didn’t like was that he is brutally honest. Yet, that’s what I like most about him.” If I tell her I heard her talking to Tiana, she’d probably die trying to deny it.
“Don’t forget to take a shower, ugly.” I tease.
“I did already, slacker.”
“Where was I?”
“Why?” Mama asks with a daring look.
“Just confirming she really washed up.” I look at Shay, sticking my tongue in my cheek to hide avoid laughing.
“Uh huh, watch yourself boy.” Mama warns. It didn’t take long for us to be on our way. So far, the drive on our way to the mall is peaceful. Mama is singing to the radio and Shay is staring out the window. I could tell she’s thinking about something heavy; she looks to be contemplating or plotting something in her head.
“Shay, give me your hand.” I want to see if my fingers start tingling. I can’t stop thinking about the feeling I get when we touch.
“No, why?” She looks at me skeptical. I hold my hand out patiently, knowing she would listen out of curiosity. I turn her hand up and place mine above hers making sure nothing touches but our fingertips. It feels like light waves of electricity going through my finger. I smirk at the feeling and Shay snatched her hand away, gasping. “What was that?” Shay asks in a hushed tone. I lean over closer to her ear and deepen my voice.
“Confirmation you belong to me.” Shay nudges me away from her but doesn’t say anything. I fight the urge to laugh at her red face while she focuses out the window. A sweet soft scent hits my nose, and my hands start tingling again. I cut my eyes at Shay and without looking my way she squeezes her legs shut. “Bingo,” I whisper to myself; acknowledging the fact that it happens now when I smell her arousal. Once we get inside the mall, I look around for Alicia before turning my attention to Shay.
“What do you plan on doing to celebrate your birthday?”
“I'm going to Epics.” Epics is a plaza with a bowling alley, and arcade, a roller-skating rink, laser tag, and a restaurant that has an all you can eat buffet. A few other things but that’s what I can name off the top of my head.
“What part?” I ask her.
“I'm going to do almost everything.”
“You serious?” That’ll cost a grip.
“Yes, we're going to the arcade, going bowling, playing laser tag, then having dinner at the buffet next door.” She beams with ‘buffet’.
“How old are you again, Fatty?”
“15! And I’m fat in all the right places.” She smacks her lips.
“I’m sure” I joke, getting slapped on the arm as we enter Sassy's clothing store. Walking over to the dresses I saw Alicia scanning through sun dresses. I felt Shay’s eyes on me as I approached Alicia. When Alicia noticed me her once determined expression transformed into a huge grin. After I received the tightest hug ever from Alicia, her once ear to ear smile turned into a narrow eyed, tight lipped, mean mug. I followed her gaze which landed on Shay entering the fitting room with her arms full of clothes. That girl shops fast I thought; putting my attention back on Alicia just in time to catch the kiss she forced on my lips. She pulled away with a smug smirk on her face stealing a glance towards the fitting room. Doing the same, I witnessed Shay laugh and close the curtain. Her eyes were on my mother, not paying any attention to Alicia at all.
“Look who finally made it. I didn’t think you’d show” Alicia purrs.
“Yeah, let’s go get something to eat.” I ignore her flirting.
“Or we could go somewhere else.” She lays her arms on my shoulders, rubbing her fingers through my hair. I slide them off of me and turn her towards my mother.
“Let me tell my mother I’m leaving, and we could go.” I add.
“Good, I want to say hi.” Her voice faded out and my attention went to Shay instead of my mother. She came out of the dressing room wearing a yellow high waist pleated skirt with black fishnet stockings. She twisted up her face shaking her head no, but I approve. She could wear it at my house minus the stockings. “Did you hear me?” Alicia shook my arm a little bit.
“Yeah, let's go.” I started walking towards my mother with Alicia in toe. Before I could say anything, she jumped in front of me to hug my mother as if they were close. Shay came out of the dressing room once again. This time with mauve pants on that hugged her hips. A white V-neck spaghetti strap that I think might be padded and a mauve blazer she held in her hand. Looking her in the eyes, I could see the aggravation she was trying her best to hide.
“So?” She spins around for my mother.
“Silas, what do you think?” Mama asks me even though Shay was obviously asking for her opinion just now. Shay’s eyes bugged out before she frowned at me.
“I have three more to try on and I don't want him here to judge them with his just as evil girlfriend.” She fussed shooting daggers at Alicia.
“Oh Shay, don’t be like that.” Mama waved her complaint off and she looked at her feet mumbling something under her breath.
“I've seen better.” Alicia said straight faced, judging the outfit, no, judging Shay. Her comment caused Shay to look up at the three of us. Ma dismissed Alicia by stepping past her and standing next to me to get my opinion. I looked Shay in her eyes until she started to fidget uncomfortably. My eyes trailed down her body taking in her outfit. She cleared her throat and turned to face the mirror, turning her back to us. I looked at the outfit again I stopped on her a*s.
“Da*n.” I cursed barely audible, but Ma heard me.
“Watch your mouth!” Ma pointed her finger as a warning.
“I meant to say, buy the outfit.”
“Why? What made you decide that” Ma gasps ironically.
“Is that a zipper on the back?” I ask Shay, ignoring my mother.
“That’s strike three Silas.” Ma’s hand was quick as she slapped me in the mouth. “Don’t think I won’t tell your father.”
“Ahh, relax Ma, he wouldn’t let her walk outside in that either.” I said while covering my mouth.
“Then why would she buy it?” She raised her hand at me.
“It was a joke.” I nudged her shoulder with an innocent smile.
“Uh huh, don’t mess with me boy.” She put her and on her hip waiting for me to say something slick so she could hit me. Shay went in the dressing room and closed the curtain. Her shirt isn't padded, it just squeezes her breast, perfectly portraying them. The anger that appeared in her face when Alicia spoke up only confirmed what I had to do. Shay turning around displaying a grown woman's a*s had nothing to do with my decision, but it made it easier. The anger my outburst placed on Alicia only made looking at Shays a*s sweeter. I know looking more than likely annoyed Shay, but it was worth it.
“This store’s value just decreased.” Alicia said dismissively. I walked away without saying anything else that’ll make my mama slap me, knowing Alicia would follow. We made it to the concession stand when I noticed Alex standing by one of the dining tables. I'm not sure why but I'm not as interested in her as I was a couple hours ago. I do regret kissing her when I met her, she’s clingy as hell. “Are you happy?” Alicia asks, ready to argue with me.
“Not yet.” I answer removing all emotions from my face.
“What do you want to do? Kiss the b*tch?”
“Who are we talking about?” Breaking my attention off of Alex I began to fully listen to Alicia. She sucked her teeth then rolled her neck like a bird. That motion kind of made me cringe, it looked nasty.
“I'm talking about Shay, Silas it’s me or her.” She tilts her head.
“Her.” I look her in the eyes.
“That's not funny.” She rolled her cold eyes at me.
“I'm not laughing. In fact, you talk about her so much, I've been considering it.”
“Considering what? Did you kiss her?”
“I kissed Shay a handful of times.”
“You cheated on me with her? That b*tch don’t got Sh*t on me!”
“No this was before I met you, I don’t cheat.” I look at her suspicious. “Listen, I'm going to walk away. Don’t embarrass yourself by causing a scene in this mall.” I whisper firmly in her ear. “I don’t know what the future holds, but from now on I’m single. I am releasing you.” I step back giving her a minute to process.
“No, you’re not just going to dump me like that.” She shakes her head but keeps her voice low.
“You’re not my girlfriend Alicia. Now that that’s off the table, what do you want?” I study her face and her body language.
“Don’t release me.” She pauses to look at her surroundings before continuing. “I’m ready to go to another level, I submit.” She says looking me in my eyes.
“No.” I answer bluntly. “Go home, think about this conversation before you say anything else.” I watch her eyes tear up before she nods her head and bites back her tears. “Words, Alicia.”
“I understand, I’ll call you later.” She says in her usual voice. She doesn’t understand because that is not what I said. I see the wheels turning in her head, so I squeeze her shoulder and walk away from her before she flips and twist more words to suit her wants.

Shay and Tina were leaving the shoe store by the time Silas caught up with them. He quietly followed behind them until they stopped at the lady’s room.
“Silas! You creep! How long have you been following us?” Tina hollered at him.
“About five minutes, are y’all done shopping?”
“Yes, we are heading out after I tinkle.” Tina handed Shay her purse and sashayed into the restroom while Shay laughed at her, and Silas shook his head. Once she was out of sight Shay turned to the window of another clothing store, window shopping. Silas walked up behind her with his hands behind his back and begin whispering in her ear.
“I hope you don’t plan on buying that dress.”
“And if I am?” She asks without turning around.
“You could only wear it in the house, you know the rules.”
“Shut up. You should be telling your girlfriend that.”
“Is she why you were crying this morning?”
“No, she has nothing to do with anything involving me.”
“You sure seem a little bothered by her.” Shay took a deep breath taking in what he just said. She released it and turned around to face him.
“Only person bothering me is you. Why do you care so much?”
“Why am I not allowed to care about you? everyone else can.”
“Because they don't consider me their problem, you do.”
“I apologize. Though you are my problem, I'm not going to date anymore girls that have a problem with you or with our friendship. At the end of the day, you're my best friend, who likes kissing me and probably dreams about me.” Shay rolled her eyes at his apology while he put on a knowing smirk.
“I was going to accept your apology until you went there, asshole.”
“Whatever, be happy I didn't get my girl to beat you up.”
“Yeah right, beat me up how? And for what?”
“For sleeping in the room with Sin.”
“What girlfriend is going to be mad another girl didn't sleep in her boyfriend's room with him.”
“Don’t judge.” He narrowed his eyes at her.
“Don’t base your girlfriends off of if they like me or not. They won't and I don't care as long as we stay out of each other's way.”
“Tired of fighting these girls?”
“The last one tried to get me jumped!”
“That's not cool and that's why I broke up with her. But in her defense, the s****l tension between us is crazy sometimes.”
“What? Shut Up!” Shay punched him in his chest.
“You know it’s true.” Silas looked her over, biting his lip.
“What about Aubrey, They actually jumped me.” Shay adds.
“You beat both their asses and you gave me a lap dance before punching her in the face first; Aubrey was sort of justified.” Silas weighs the pros and cons of that day.
“I was defending you and Mama said I needed to practice being more, alluring, for the talent show.” Shay explained.
“You did not need practice; They didn't like Aubrey that's why she sent you to do that.”
“If that's true, why didn't you say anything?” She asked him doubtfully.
“I was clearly distracted.” He says obviously.
“Distracted by what?” Tina asks as she joins them.
“The blackhead on Shays’ forehead.” Silas pokes Shay’s head.
“Why are you so annoying?” Shay squints her eyes at him.
“Because he likes you.”
“Ma, don't get her hopes up.”
“Yeah, Okay. Here, bring my car around to the front, I don't feel like walking far. Tina hands Silas her keys as they made their way out of the mall. “She likes you too.” Shay blushed while Silas walked ahead of them to go get her car, ignoring his mother’s comments.
