Dusty inhaled the aroma of apples and cinnamon and cuddled closer to the source. Lindsey groaned and swatted at him and he chuckled against the back of her neck. He hadn’t wanted to show his fear to her, but the reality that they could both die was terrifying.
What he wanted most was in his arms, and it was all at risk because of the game he had loved so long. As wrong as it would be, he’d abandon this world and the people in it in a heartbeat if he could protect his Linds.
She shifted in his arms and he kissed the top of her head. As it always did in the past, she quieted down with a soft hum of satisfaction. His heart clenched at the sound. This entire adventure was a roller coaster. These two days were the click clacks as the coaster climbed up. Tomorrow when they ascended the towers
