Dean's POV....

Standing on a large patio I stared out to the city ,God I'm bored.ob

' I want to go home' my beast huffs out in my head.

' I know relax, we'll leave soon.' I try to reassure him. He hates these gatherings just as much as I do.

Another gathering of mateless wolves and lycans trying to find each other. I've been coming to these parties since I was 18, first I came willingly, then my father made me come and now my Beta Samuel drags me here every year. Finding my mate was the most important thing to me. I waited impatiently to turn 18, when I finally did I thought I would find her right away but here I am 16 yrs later with no luck. I have to admit I was beginning to think I wouldn't find her, most lycans find their mates by the time they're 21. I'm now 34 and nowhere near finding her and these parties just poured salt on my open wound.

I watched my beta talking to some she-wolf, she wasn't his mate but he seemed to be having a good time.

It started to rain and everyone started walking back inside, I was gonna take this chance to disappear when it hit me. The most magnificent smell. My body began to shake, my hands started sweating and my heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest. My beast started jumping up and down like a kid on a sugar high.

"Oh my Goddess.... We found her....."

I followed the scent back inside , my eyes big as saucers trying to locate her. Finally I pinpointed where it's coming from. A woman , medium height,thin waist and red hair.

'why doesn't she notice me?' I ask myself .

A man walked up to her and pulled her into his chest holding her tightly.

My fists balled up and my blood boiled. She then looked up and sniffed the air.

She senses me! She turned and her eyes fell upon me. At first she looked surprised then confused..then..angry?

She whispered something to the guy holding her then signaled me to follow her.

She led me out of the building into a gazzebo . She turned to look at me and all my instincts told me to hold her in my arms. But before I could she raised her arm out stopping me in my tracks.

"You're lycan... What's your name?" She asked. Her voice only made me want to hold her even more.

I smiled at her like a lovestruck teenager ," you're right.. Introductions first. I'm Dean Aldren from Lycaon Pack."

"You're an Alpha." She stated sounding surprised.

I walked closer to her but she immediately jumped back.

"I Vanessa Rivers reject you Dean Aldren as my mate forever."

She threw the words out so fast I couldn't even understand what the hell was happening.

I stared at her with an expressionless face. There was nothing to be done. Once your mate rejects all you can do is accept it or it just hurts more.

She gave me no explanation, she simply looked to the ground and said "sorry." And ran away.

I stood there glued to my spot trying to get my feet to move.

I hadn't even noticed the sheer pain in my chest until my eyes couldn't see her anymore.

I managed to take one step and fell to the ground. My chest ached. My head felt like it would explode, my mouth felt like a desert and my entire body was stiff. I had to get out of there but I couldn't move!

With a slither of strength I had left I linked my beta. "Sam....help..."

Not even 3 min later he was at my side.

"Dean! What happened? Dean!"

But I couldn't answer, my beast surfaced and managed one word.

"..home.."

Sam picked me up and took me to our car making sure no one saw his fallen Alpha.

The ride home is a blur, I remember Sam asking questions, the sound of the car's engine but I was out as if someone had kicked my ass.

Well someone had actually.

We arrived home and the pain was still there but the distance between me and my mate was making It bearable.

"Please tell me what happened? You look awful."

" I ....I met...met her." I stuttered.

His eyes widened knowing exactly what I was talking about.

" I met her....and she....she rejected me."

"WHAT?! HOW? WHY?" He asked, jumping out of his chair.

"I Don't f*****g KNOW" I was going insane pulling and tugging at my hair..."I SAW HER, SHE SAW ME..SHE TOOK ME ASIDE AND SHE..SHE f*****g REJECTED ME!"

"How did she reject you? She didn't know your name!"

" I GAVE IT TO HER, I INTRODUCED MYSELF! GODDESS IM AN i***t!"

Sam tried to give me hope, " Let's go find her...make her Change her mind."

I turned to him then I felt what can only be described as a bullet piercing my heart.

I fell to the ground , thank the Goddess for lycan speed Sam was able to catch my head before it slammed against the concrete.

The pain traveled from my heart To my entire body, then fire consumed my insides.

Sam was in a panic, "What's wrong? Please answer me Dean!"

" I'm ...on fire. I can't... breathe. My beast... feels like.. he's dying."

I could see it on Sam's face when he realized what was happening to me.

He lowered himself to my ear, " Dean try to hear me. Your mate... She's trying to sever the last piece of your bond. She...let someone mark her." Of course I knew what was happening. A roar escaped from my throat but it wasn't me ,it was my beast. He was shattered.

"Dean...you have to accept the rejection or it's gonna be worse. Please do it." I knew he was right. I couldn't believe I had waited 34 yrs for this s**t. With the slightest strength I could gather I said the words that destroyed my heart.

"I Dean .... Aldren....accept...Vanessa ... Rivers' ...rejection."

The moment I said it something in me shifted. I felt something inside break. The fire I felt was replaced with a cold sensation, for the first time in my life I felt cold. The pain died and was replaced with...nothing.
