{P.O.V. Jennifer Ross}
Today is Friday, the last day of work for the week. Starting tomorrow, Cassidy and I are going to a spa, and I can't wait. Then we're going to the mall after that and then nightclubbing. It is going to be fun to let loose after a long week of work. Knowing what my plans are for tomorrow has put me in an excellent mood.
Stepping into the vast office building. With excitement in every step. With how good my mood was. Nothing could bring me down. Not even Mr. Ryans. Stepping onto the top floor. I was two minutes early. 'Ha, take that, Mr. Ryans!' thinking aloud to myself.
Putting my purse and backpack under my desk. I sit down and get ready to work. When the elevator door dings and opens. Mr. Ryans steps out. Following behind him was a beautiful black and white Husky with pretty grey eyes.
"Good Morning, Mr. Ryans." Greeting him.
"Good Morning Miss Ross." He says back. The black and white husky comes around my desk.
"And good morning to you too, Rhea." Greeting the husky while petting her. I enjoy it when Mr. Ryans brings Rhea to the office.
"Before you leave today, Miss Ross. We need to have a chat about this month's schedule."
"Yes, Sir."
"Rhea." He calls her name. She follows him into his office. Sitting down and getting back to work.
It has been a long day at the office today. I'm glad I can finally go home. Knocking on Mr. Ryans's office door, hearing a 'Come in.' Opening the door. He was at his desk with some reading glasses on. Looking at the computer screen. Even though I don't have romantic feelings for him. I have to say. Even though most guys don't look good with glasses. Mr. Ryans here is definitely one of those guys that do.
"You wanted to talk to me before I left?" Asking him.
"Yes.. have a seat." Taking a seat on the chair in front of his desk. He takes his reading glasses off. Puts them down on his desk. Leans back in his office chair. "For the next month, you will work late with me. No later than 8:30 p.m. If you are wondering why? It is because starting from 3:00 p.m. I will do interviews with different women. What the interviews are about is none of your business. Those times are just for the week. During the weekends, you will be here at 12 p.m and will stay till I leave."
Is he kidding? Does he think he can demand me around? Not just that, I have a second job. I can't be here working late.
"Mr. Ryan, Sir, I can't work those times. I have a second job to work at night." Telling him. Now my second job is no longer a secret.
"That's not my problem." He says bluntly.
"Sir.." Trying to explain that I can't, he cuts me off.
"Miss Ross, I need you to do this. Or I will search for a new secretary that can work the hours that I ask of them." The arrogance of this man! I can't lose this job, it's my primary income.
"When do we start, Sir?" Trying to ask him as nicely as possible.
"This Monday, so enjoy your last free weekend. For the next four weeks, you won't have one."
"Is that all, sir?"
"Yes, have a goodnight, Miss Ross." Getting up and leaving his office fast as I could, for I was fuming mad. It was going to be along night at the hardware store. I'm sure Mrs. Callie will understand and work something out with me for a month.
It was finally Saturday after a long night last night. Cassidy and I are at the spa getting back messages. Talking about what Kendrick Ryans said to me.
"He actually said that to you?" She asks in surprise.
"Oh, yes, he did." I just got done telling her about him finding a new secretary.
"Jenna, why do you put up with this asshole? There are plenty of other secretary jobs you can apply for."
"Yes, but none of them pay as well. As Ryans Corporate does."
"That might be true, but I rather have you treated right. Not the way he treats you."
"It's okay, Cass, with all the overtime he is giving me. I will finally have enough to buy that piece of property for my little B&B. Just got to deal with him for a little longer." I have already talked to Mrs. Callie. She and I worked it all out. She is going to find someone to work at her store temporarily while I'm gone.
"If you say so... When do you talk to the property salesperson again?"
"This coming Monday, since my schedule real tight. The only time I can talk to her is during my lunch."
"Well, hopefully, everything will go great with your meeting with her."
"I honestly think it will." Ending our conversation. We enjoy the rest of our spa day and shopping spree. Then later that night, we went to an amazing nightclub.
The music was loud, and the lights were flashing. Cass and I were wearing the new club dresses we bought earlier. She was wearing a sapphire blue with sparkles. While mine was a sleeveless, sexy black one with a few ruffles. With alcohol in our bodies. We were dancing the night away. Stepping away from the dance floor. My head felt a little light from all the alcohol. Cassidy follows me, and she tugs on my arm.
"Are you okay?" She yells over the music.
"Yea, I'm fine. I'm just going to get some fresh air really quick." Yelling back.
"Do you want Taylor and me to come with you?"
"No, go have some more fun. I will be right back." She nods her head and goes back to the dance floor.
Going out of the nightclub, the cool, wet Seattle air hits me. The streets were all but quiet. Very few still walked around. 'What time is it?' asking myself. Pulling my cellphone out of my strapless bra. It read 11:45 p.m. Cassidy, Taylor, and I have been here since 7:00 p.m. Taking a seat on the street bench, just breathing in the air. Trying to get rid of the lightheadedness.
The alcohol was clearing up. Which made the night air cold to me. Shivering, a little from the cool air. Getting off the bench and heading back inside. There were two drunk guys before the entrance being loud and annoying. Trying to ignore them, one of them grabs my arm and yanks me to him.
"We're you going, pretty lady?" The man breathes in my face. Pushing him away. Trying to get away from him. The other one grabs my other arm and holds me to him.
"What's a matter? Don't you want to party with us?" The other guys ask.
"Let me go!" Telling him forcefully. Both touching me all over. With me trying to fight them off. My knee hits one guy in the nuts. He drops to the ground. The other grabs me by the arm again and raises his hand. Closing my eyes, waiting for his hand to hit.
"Didn't you hear the lady's request? Let her go? " A familiar deep voice says. Reopening my eyes, a different guy. Had caught the drunk's hand. The drunk guy pushes me to the ground. As he lets me go and backed off.
"We weren't looking for any trouble." The drunk guy says as he sleazes his words. "We were just looking for some fun."
"Then I suggest you and your friend leave. Find your fun elsewhere. And never return to my club again." The familiar man said intimidatingly. The guy standing up grabs the other guy. I brought down with my knee. Both of them scurrying and fleeing as fast as they could. The man walks towards me. "Are you alright?"
The man kneeled before me. When I saw his face, I was stunned. Pulling a handkerchief out of his back jean pocket. He places it just above my eyebrow, making me hiss in pain.
"When I told you to enjoy your weekend. I didn't mean like this, Miss Ross." Kendrick Ryans says bluntly.
"You own this nightclub?" Asking in disbelief that this is actually happening.
"Half of it, I do." He helps me off the ground. Trying to stand up, I was a little wobbly and light-headed. 'I must be drunker than I thought.' Thinking to myself. "When was the last time you ate something? Miss Ross."
"Before I came here.."
"Which was when?"
"6:30 ish.."He makes a hmm sound.
"Let's get you something to eat."
"I can't leave. I am here with friends."
"We're just going across the street." Holding me tight to him so I don't fall on my face. He takes me across the street to a diner.
