Without a word, Axel snapped his device shut, his eyes darting around as if calculating their fastest exit. “They’re closing in,” he muttered, already moving. “We need to get off the streets. Now.” Leila followed him, her heart pounding as they darted into the labyrinthine alleyways. Shadows blurred around them as they zigzagged through narrow passages, their footsteps muffled by the damp ground beneath them. Behind them, distant footsteps and faint shouts signaled that whoever was tracking them was getting closer.
