  Present Day   They were not taken to the audience chamber, but rather to the King’s own chambers where the King was eating his midday meal. It would be impossible, Yelena thought, to miss the King’s chambers as the doorway into them was painted white and gilded in gold as the audience chamber’s doors were.   Within the royal colours were combined with white and gold to create chambers that glowed with luxury and wealth. Sheer curtains shimmered and billowed as they caught the breeze through doorways that opened onto a private terrace, chandeliers dripped crystals that caught and shed rainbow light across walls dressed in silk.
